SWMBO is wanting a microwave, preferably something I can fix in place, not sure we need it but hey ho - any opinions on carrying a microwave in your MH ?

It’s not a case of better it’s faster and cheaper doing porridge and warming things in seconds
Cheaper? How... especially if you take into consideration the cost of the machine, the weight & space and maybe cost of installation.
If time is so important for porridge, just get packets of instant oats, pour on boiling water.

You can 'cook' a lot of things in a microwave but it's not always the best if you enjoy quality.
Cooking in a microwave is not called "nuking" for no reason :giggler:.

In winter, while on EHU, I use it for making porridge and heating take-aways.
The porridge I make in a bowl the night before and this allows the liquid (I use water) to soak into the porridge overnight, in the morning its just a case of turning the microwave on and adding the cream & honey.
In summer, rarely used so it's removed.

Its also a Nay from us.
Don't do ding meals at home, eat enough of them when we got out.:giggle:
I used to say they were great for doing/starting off jacket potatoes, but now we have the Remoska in the van & home, nothing does them better IMHO.

Just to add to that, I boil the potato for 10 minutes before baking in the gas oven, browned and ready in 1 hour 😎

Even a small one is very heavy and takes up valuable space. We removed ours.

After all we have a proper stove with 4 rings, a grill and an oven. We don't need any other method of heating food.
But I notice that German motorhomes tend to have just 3 burners, full stop so I suppose a microwave could be useful.

I use mine quite often, lots of low power (500-800 Watts) available on Amazon. I have a big pure sine wave generator so no problem if I am "off grid". very handy piece of kit, much quicker than a gas oven and fine if you heat foods designed for microwaves. I have three kids and it is much easier sometimes to use the microwave for rapid satisfication especially after a cold kayak trip lol.

We carry a low wattage one for when EHU otherwise plan accordingly. BTW we also carry a mains fan heater for the times when it needs heat but not using gas as out Truma heater is gas only

We eat to live - not the other way round - so the memsahib prepares ready meals in plastic containers and packs the fridge and freezer before we leave. Add a boxful from Parsleybox and off we go.
A few minutes in the microwave, eat well and no washing up.
On an aire, a jeton usually buys long enough juice for the microwave job.
On EHU it's perfect.
But if you enjoy shopping, prepping, cooking, steamy greasy van, smelly upholstery, washing up - please carry on.

I enjoy all of those, and with two small dogs the smelly upholstery is a given!

Don't see the point in a Motorhome, waste of space & payload.
Also they are crap at reheating food, it comes out really hot, you burn your mouth on it then in a few minutes it's too cold, far better to heat food by conventional means.
Only problem with conventional means is 1 you need to find the logs. 2 You need to make sure you can light a fire on your pitch. 3 It takes far to long to heat and cook by this method. That is why we have Combi Microwaves 🚐 (y)

Langtoftlad, if you buy a good van a microwave is installed part of it.
A microwave warms things up quickly like quick snacks but if you want mess around with the cooking using lots of gas that’s fine.
I agree to cook a good dinner we all use the cooker.

Ours at home is used every day but in the van I can only remember using it once or twice I’m the last 6years ( the time we have been motorhoming)

Not necessarily, I bought a good van, a microwave wasn't part of the standard equipment

Yes, agree a microwave is excellent at nuking food. I suppose it depends on what you consider to be edible... Someone must buy those awful Rustler burgers!

Logically the same amount of energy is used be it gas or electricity.

The only extra we have added to our cooking equipment is a small slow cooker for using when we are on sites. A microwave would take up extra room and we have managed without so far.
The van we hired in New Zealand had one fitted but you had to run the engine to use it so we didn’t bother. The idea of a Transit engine clattering away to warm the beans seemed a bit silly.
