SWMBO is wanting a microwave, preferably something I can fix in place, not sure we need it but hey ho - any opinions on carrying a microwave in your MH ?

Had it fitted as part of the deal when we bought Motorhome but never used it!

But we have plenty of space payload and power😏 just want the added convenience of a microwave.
Then have one :ROFLMAO:
OP's partner wants one so it doesn't really matter what we think.
If he wants a peaceful life...

Hi Lenny. Right here you go

3 tablespoons of dry porridge add water until you cover it don’t use milk. 2 minutes on full setting. Add milk to taste stir in until thoroughly mixed add 10 grapes gobble it. That my breakfast for 20 years plus never had and explosion. Must be adding the milk first.
I did have an explosion heating up lemonade then putting a spoon in it.
2 min, it would explode its a powerful microwave, I'll stick to a saucepan.

It's a no from us! Not being judgemental but for me it's a bit like the electric kettle and toaster question. Why would you buy one when there are perfectly good alternatives that you can use via your gas hobs. Less clutter as well.

Just our view.

Nope. Buy a Remoska or the cheap knock off version from fleebay or lakeland. Smaller, lighter, you can cook outside and they work far better that you'd expect. It wont go ping to tell you that your dinner is dried up but still cold tho.

We love our Bosch microwave/grill we cook rice, porridge, toast, bacon, soups etc, saves on pans , don’t need to carry a toaster and it makes a great bread bin when we are travelling.

If you are only on holidays and always on EHU and you can‘t be bothered to cook then have a microwave otherwise I can’t see the point!

Use ours a lot. The van has a good sized freezer and we fill it up with stuff we've cooked before the trip. the micro is invaluable for defrosting and reheating.

We dont have a microwave in our van as we have a full oven and hob. We are on our 3rd van everyone of them have had full oven and hob :-) . We use the van all year round so can cook inside in winter and cobb or Cadac in summer outside works for us :-)

Glad someone else is on the same thing for breakfast for years and years strategy.

You know when you get really aged and decrepit and the medical people are looking to put you away in the home,
they always ask " and what did you have for breakfast?"

They're not getting me so easily :LOL:

You need to think of the weight

I would ask SWMBO why she wants one, i.e. what's it going to be used for? If there's a good reason then get one. In our last MH we didn't have one and that honestly wasn't a problem. There is one in the new van and it mostly gets used for re-heating my wife's cold tea. If we were away in winter in the UK then I would probably use it for making porridge but in warmer climes I tend to have cereals for breakfast, so its uses, or more importantly its requirements, are limited.

It does require a little finesse Lenny, maybe that's the problem :whistle2:  here's a YouTube with a few pointers. (y)

That's not been heated long enough to turn the oats into porridge. All its done is make a warm bowl of milky porridge oats - probably tasty but not actual porridge. Porridge when it's cooked properly turns into a sticky, muddy texture, with a white-ish sheen on the top. I've found 3 minutes 20 secs at 600W does the trick.

SWMBO will not have a microwave in the house and strongly resents our new moho having one fitted, with no easy way to remove. It isa costly, heavy, unnecessary item wasting a lot of space. Not even very good as a storage space!
They should only be an optional extra for those who really want one.But we don’t!

I took mine out as couldnt justify the weight and space it takes up. I agree with others - you're on holiday so whats the rush?

Hi there, we have a 700w microwave in our PVC. Not always on EHU but invaluable when we are, even though we have an oven as well. Speed and convenience comes to mind.

Why?
What can you do better in a microwave,
that can't be done by conventional cookery methods?
It’s not a case of better it’s faster and cheaper doing porridge and warming things in seconds

Think the U Tube video is making cement!! Micro porridge is great - ratio 3:1 set for 1.5 mins, stir and repeat. simples!!

Not for us, we hardly ever used the one when we had our house. In the van we have a portable electric oven (very good indeed), an air fryer, and a king pro electric pressure cooker..all bases covered I think 🤔
How do you run all those when no ehu or only 4/6A as on many campsites outside the UK?
