SWMBO is wanting a microwave, preferably something I can fix in place, not sure we need it but hey ho - any opinions on carrying a microwave in your MH ?

We never used the microwave in a previous van, not for the intended purpose anyway, just as another cupboard. Not even sure why we bother to retain the one at home either, as that is very rarely used.

If you mainly frequent sites with EHU then great. If not you'll need a decent battery with inverter setup.

Microwave is convenient, but for my small van, and the limited time I'm on EHU I'd rather the space had been another cupboard. Most of the time it's used as a bread bin.

It's a Yes from me but you have some No's as well so its up to you to have the casting vote ;) do you have a place to fix it?

Never really on EHU in our van so never used one, so much so that we've ditched our home one as well.

Don't miss it at all.

use ours as a bread bin. Had one removed from last van, removing this would be more problematic, have used it once but could happily do without, but don't use the one at home much either.

We don’t have one and wouldn’t want one even though home one does get used for morning porridge. We enjoy having different breakfast when away. We don’t go on electric hook up very often so it would be a waste of weight and space for 99.9% of the time.

Don't see the point in a Motorhome, waste of space & payload.
Also they are crap at reheating food, it comes out really hot, you burn your mouth on it then in a few minutes it's too cold, far better to heat food by conventional means.

You are supposed to stir the contents...😇

Suppose you have little choice, then.
I'd fix it in a way that could be undone later. With luck, there could be a change of heart...

Whilst not an essential item we do use ours for cooking and defrosting, I am using the royal "we" here. My better, Scottish, half makes porridge using it, much less messy I understand.

Rarely use one in the house, and never in the van. Hob with three rings, plus grill plus oven, plus gas bbq thingy outside is enough. I guess they drink leccie don’t they?

Unless someone does a useable 12v one, no good for us as we don't use EHU all the time.

Then they just become balast.

A must have at home but not missed the lack of one in the motorhome.

Changed the glass turn table type that came with our van for one of the flatbed type as they have more internal space and no glass turntable to rattle about while driving.
We use it while on EHU and so it's not wasted space, we use it as a bread bin and egg store.

I don't understand how you can make porridge in a microwave. I've tried a couple of times, ended up with an empty bowl, and an hour to clean up the microwave.

It does require a little finesse Lenny, maybe that's the problem :whistle2:  here's a YouTube with a few pointers. (y)

Ney, nay, no, absolutely not
As others have said i dont need another bread bin,
Kichen space is important. If you dont use enu all the time the cost impact on 12V provision can be immense.
For speed we use a pressure cooker (3l version, small for 2 people) and a slow cooker whilst travelling.
For even quicker no fuss cooking try the chip shop or Chinese takeaway.

We have one though not used a lot, mainly fof heating things up and cooking fish (as swmbo is allergic so needs to be kept separate from whatever she's having. Works fine from inverter and not a huge battery drain as usually only used for a few minutes. When not in use it has sundry cookery bits stored in it.

Think you need to work on your microwave technique Lenny.
