Major AI breakthrough.

So where does the internet end and AI begin? I use the internet a lot but have never knowingly used AI.

So AI has been around since day one of the internet. Funny how it's only now being talked about.
Yep, first started in the 19 hundreds.

Birth of AI: 1950-1956The term “artificial intelligence” was coined and came into popular use. Dates of note: 1950: Alan Turing published “Computer Machinery and Intelligence” which proposed a test of machine intelligence called The Imitation Game.

There was an interesting programme on Radio 4 this afternoon called Rethink? about AI scraping people's conversations etc.
Might be worth listening EVERYONE if your interested in AI? 🤔

I thought that was a book about the gay fella at Bletchley? 🤔

I love the fact that OpenAI is accusing the chinese company of stealing it's data using distillation.

This is EXACTLY what OpenAI has been doing. they trawl the internet scraping everyone's websites without permission for data to train their model.
They literally would steal all the data from this forum without permission if not prevented.

I have a client who was hit HARD by the Anthropic Claude crawler. It was trying to scrape thousands of pages a minute putting excessive load on the server, using all the memory and pegging the CPU at 100%.
It ignored the robots.txt file as well so it didn't care about the polite rules.

I have since had to write custom Fail2Ban rules to prevent ALL AI bots from scraping his websites while still allowing traditional search engines in.

I was almost tempted to implement a poison pill tarpit to pollute their training data it has been so bad.

The main designer behind Deepseek actually stated in his book on AI is that they want to collect all data in the world for the benefit of China....

According to this afternoon's programme, the biggest scrapers are Americans? 🤔

Oh yes you have, just a Google search uses AI.
A Google search claims to use AI. As mentioned yesterday, Google also points out that its "AI" engine suffers from "hallucinations - i.e. coming back with a load of carp (or something like that).

And OpenAI wants to collect all the data in the world for the benefit of OpenAI.

Replace OpenAI with Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Anthropic etc etc etc.
