LPG pricing

I asked Shell cirencester why no more LPG on forcourt yesterday and they told me Shell are removing all LPG from their Sites in UK as its not worth the effort .
yes, both our local Shell stations removed LPG pumps some time ago

The difference is quantity, I used 2,600 litres of LPG at home last year but probably less than 100 litres in my refillable cylinders. I expect to pay a lot more for the small quantities I buy for leisure when on the road but even the home stuff is now costing 76p per litre.
We pay 54p at home.

I have used the one by starcity , my neighbour does the same. There's another on the washwood heath Road. Lpg usage was never huge, taxi's using them is a big increase on pre caz zones.

Our local esso garage in Grantham sells lpg at £1.09 a litre. Went to fill up on way out yesterday but pump was out of order. we are stopping near Pershore and Evesham so today filled up at Johnson Bros Compounding near Evesham. 82 p litre! Our big cylinder 11 kg ? Was nearly empty and our smaller one 6 kg? Was about 60% full. To fill up was 10.5 litres so £8.61 Havent checks the gauges but presume we will be full. So whilst I understand the £10 minimum order it might be a problem for us. Depends on cost of gas of course.
By the way, they have a weigh bridge their as well which given the sign of £9 one weigh £10 for two probably means they would weigh vans as well.
Found it via my lpg.

An empty 11kg cylinder should take a lot more than 10.5 litres. Between the 2 cylinders as you describe them 20 litres plus would be more like it.

Was going to say the same, 12kg is about 20l and 6kg about 12vso should be about 25l.

I applauded when Marquis started installing LPG pumps on their forecourts, and I understand that they need to make a return on their investment. But £1.49 a litre at Birtley branch looks a little like extortion. Average price in this area is around £0.91 a litre. Cannot see them getting a return at all if they persist with that sort of pricing

I live inside the CAZ. I fill up at the LPG yard near Spring Hill on the edge of the zone. I don't have a car, so I taxi a fair bit. Pretty much every ride is a Prius or that odd Toyota minivan that's a Prius underneath. I've not seen one converted to LPG yet. I don't think LPG has gained popularity at all in Brum.

There's 1/4 million LPG fuelled houses out there that still need a supply so it will be some time before the distribution system collapses

indeed.. but they don't use forecourt pumps ..
.
Our domestic heating oil depot also has an LPG pump - and charge 5% VAT for domestic use or the 20% for road use.

What I meant was they don't distribute to your house with a forecourt pump.. so could be done away with, including a depot pump, and not affect home deliveries

Well I suppose the big cylinder might not have been as empty as I thought. I would expect them to be full because I didn’t do it, a very helpful woman did and the pump definitely stopped filling. Any way I will see when I look at the gauges - when it’s not raining!

I am not disagreeing, it is weird however that 2 have opened up in Bloxwich within a year with a 3rd in Walsall.

They must be making a profit?

I do wonder if it’s as the usual forecourt’s have stopped providing it?

Not around here .At least 5 garages have installed lpg pumps recently as duel fuel vehicles are sold , the council & water board use them & many ambulances are duel fuel.
3 stations in Javea, and its not a city, just a medium size Town really

Maybe if you're a taxi driver doing longer distances and motorway trips, an older petrol converted to LPG makes more sense?

Most of the Ubers and Bolts in the Brum centre seem to be licenced from Wolverhampton.

67.5p per litre at Carvers Wolverhampton I tend to pop in once or twice per week to fill up my Fuel Fuel Duster .the motorhome gets topped up at nearest convenient pump I tend to consult LPG EU app

The cost advantages of LPG as a road fuel are not as great as they first appear. You get fewer MPG out of a litre of LPG (7kWh/l) than you do out of 1 litre of petrol (9kWh/l) or 1 litre of diesel (10kWh/l). This may be encouraging some taxi drivers to move away from LPG.

We’re in a quandary trying to decide to get a refillable fitted for Europe, but living in the South I’m not sure there’s many places to fill up. Is there a French equivalent to Calor exchanges?

Surely the point is you fill up on your travels. Cylinder doesn’t have to be empty.

£1 a Ltr here at our only local refill Shell garage.
Mike.

My 7.5Kg Safefill ran out yesterday so am looking to refill direct to the cylinder in situ as it does not have a remote filler. I'm currently about 40 Kilometres west of Lorca heading towards Murcia so any info on Gas stations that aren't twitchy about Safefill would be welcome. gus-lopez might have local knowledge.

If you going to Lorca there are 3 stations there, a CESPA and couple of independent ones so you may have a good chance, there's also the €1 CCP aire and its a nice place to visit.

Just a note on the CCP aire in Lorca.
Minimum top up charge at machine onsite is 10 euro. So if you don't have any credit on your camping car card it will leave you a balance of 9 euro to use at a later date. However great position for city and the market.

We had £1.03 on ours so was just right

The gauge on my 11kg was showing almost empty a few weeks back . Only managed 9 litres to fill it.

The west midlands seems to be the centre f the universe for cheap gas. At home £1 per Litre seems the norm if not more. Even in Lorca, Spain I paid the equivalent of 86p this morning.
