Long term future of autogas in fuel stations?

The small amount we use though as you said,, it doesn't matter what the price is so much, we don't look at the price anymore as long as there is some available.
Speak for yourself...:LOL:lol Im using 50l/month.
There is always pros and cons to everything, Ive put the cinderella toilet in my build which is truly amazing but Dammn does it use a lot of gas. I still wouldent swap it for a cartridge system though.

I don't know where in Kent you are exactly but we regularly use the one on the main services coming on m20 J11

Not for much longer you wont. :frowny:

Can't find one on ebay. Do you have a link. Thanks.

Sorry your right they seem to have disappeared, I last looked a few years ago when I was considering getting a tank to fill the RV as its dual fuel, and there was a couple on there then.

Im in the logistics industry and most forklifts ive seen across the UK are running on gas, Surely there must be a way to fill at the suppliers which should be depots all over the UK. I suppose I need to do some investigating, Could be extra revenue if one of the suppliers opened up its locations around the UK for Motorhomes/Campervans.

I doubt the slow forklifts are driven to fill(are they even road legal?) and the wharehouses probably have their own tank on site, re-filled from a road tanker. But they probably do not want Joe Public coming on site to fill MHs.

Geoff

Forklifts I think are normally fuelled by cylinders. Years ago Flogas used to be MH friendly,I remember they used to send a tanker to the RV club shows, and it was kept busy.

I never spend my holidays 'hunting down LPG', but using the apps available I've always found somewhere en route or very close to my route. I don't think I've ever filled/topped up close to my home.

The last time was about twenty miles away, before that it was somewhere in Germany..
Our last fill up was 1381 miles away.. En route 👍

Unless you are running on gas, the small amount we use to fill the re-fillable bottles is very small compared to fuel top-ups. The staff also get side-tracked more often to help with gas or find missing adapters. Perhaps the top up autogas pumps may need to find a different home, then watch the price go up.
I think Rosalan has identified the problem, even filling an empty 11kg bottle does not cost that much, all the 'just top up in case' visits probably are a pain to the outlets given their costs for filling and service. We could all fit very large tanks to our vans but would then only visit once a year.
I had thought diesel heating and cooking would take over but wonder how long diesel will be available without a haulers licence.

We have a small local garage in Rugby who has a Flowgas pump, problem is its down the side of the building, I had a chat with them, they are waiting for a longer pipe from Flowgas but the big problem they have is the trees in the ground next to it have grown out over their drive in to the extent I cannot go in as I am sure it would damage the roof, he told me this week that he has now got a chain saw and will be cutting it back. I will update this when they have trimmed the tree's and its usable for high roof moho's. Oh this is in Rugby, the nearest for me has been Flowgas dept Coventry, I went over there to find the pump out out service and Morrisons which would not let me fill up and would not back down

Electric cars won’t be for everybody, so maybe more car manufacturers will think about dual fuel cars.
Then they will be walking.....
The Gov have said they will abolish ALL fossil fuel vehicles in the next 20-30 years.

Thank goodness I filled up today then. Two Gaslow bottles and I’m now good for seven weeks touring unless is gets even colder...

I will need an autonomous MoHo in 20-30 years so that’s OK 👍

Yup, know that, it has been going on for some time now.
The two that were handy for us but not cheap at Thrapston on the A14 and at Buckden on the A1 when last year. :frowny:
I filled mine up at a Calor station near Southdowns so hopefully pumps will be around for a while yet they will just have to be hunted down.

Just a thought if a pump is decommissioned maybe it could be moved to somewhere like a cam site as they often have large holding tanks for thier static's

Henlow Bridge Lakes campsite on the A507 near Arlesey in Bedfordshire has had the foresight to install a LPG pump on their site, hopefully it will catch on. (y)

Blame the electric cars
Surprisingly it was the push by government to dirty stinking diesel vehicles that has caused the decline of LPG at forecourts ⚠️
LPG won’t be disappearing anytime soon it will just become more of a specialist market but there’s no need to worry about the availability for many years.

I filled up with gas at a local garage recently and there was an engineer doing a service. He kindly put the cover back on the pump and filled up for me. While I was chatting to him I asked about the reduction in forecourts selling gas. He said that 10 years ago he was putting new pumps in at the rate of two per week. Now he said he was taking them out at the same rate.
It looks like the future will be having to fill up at the main suppliers' depots such as Flogas.
Even the Beverley flogas depot took their pump out about 5 years ago now, I used to get my R-V tanked up there.

The one pump in Thetford is pretty busy and seem to have a tanker delivery every 1 to 2 weeks
Its at the Harvest garage on the A134 ( the Bury St Edmunds road )

LPG is a fossil fuel but for MH cooking/heating it is not a fossil-fuelled vehicle.

However, if LPG fuelled vehicles go gradually as secondhand ones retire then the market for LPG will dwindle.

Geoff

Looked long and hard at fitting Gaslow etc. as it seemed very appealing, then I did my due diligence and found there is nowhere remotely near me that still sells it. No welding, builders merchants anywhere around me selling LPG. Every BP or Shell that used to sell it are having the pumps removed. God knows what the RV V10 Petrol/Gas conversion guys are doing for LPG in the UK.

We think in motorhome refillable gas bottle terms, there are few lpg powered vehicles, mainly converted engines, getting less and less. I’m surprised garages sell it at all.

For the UK, use FillLPG, it's normally up to date and hasn't let me down.

Look in Google Play store.

One of my neighbours had an lpg tank put in his garden then had it modified so he can fill his under slung tank, once he gets back from spain I will have to get details if lpg keeps disappearing..........luckily a local bp garage still sells it although the shell garage has had it removed

Is there a good web page or phone app that had hood upto date info on location of garages that stock it in the uk and europe
