I have an issue with my car I store at Alicante Airport.

First, cheap battery lasted more than 4 years. Even being stood during covid, flat. Replaced it last year with ....... https://tinyurl.com/5n8uz73h

Failed in just under a year, probably because the battery goes flat.

Ask the Storage company to disconnect battery with something like this you ask ?

Or

It's hard enough trying to get them to cover the car, let alone disconnect the battery. Some other companies will, but they charge €25 each time

So, I was wondering if Lithium may be an option ?

Is the car stored under cover?
If not, I'd consider a cheap windscreen solar panel that trickle charges & counters the parasitic draw.

This was very successful when I left my car 8-10 weeks on Oz trips
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AC1LLQY/?tag=mhf04-21
Prior to using it, I inevitably came back to a flat battery.

Or consider a lithium jump starter
I used this when my van battery died
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AC1LLQY/?tag=mhf04-21

I'm not sure a lithium battery is recommended as a replacement vehicle battery - but others will have more expertise

First photo is what is supposed to happen.

2nd is when I collected my car one night

Is this a stupid idea ?

Get another battery (same as your engine one) and wire it up so it is just a larger 12 volt battery engine (leaving it in the footwell of passenger) and disconnect prior to starting. Presuming it will double the time your battery will survive without a boost.

If you want to isolate the battery you can get a battery terminal with a screw in connector I had one on my triumph vitesse as an anti theft measure you would of course lose the radio codes etc.

I know nothing about electrics but why would it have to be disconnected?

It works as just a bigger battery surely? 🤔

Is that what he's trying to do, why not just fit an isolator switch or disconnect one of the battery leads?

Yes, like I mentioned above. But it's getting the company to actually carry out the request. I drop it at the airport and they drive it to a compound.

I dont think I would want to drive a vehicle with extra wires connecting to an insecure battery in the footwell.

I also know nothing about electrics

I don't know how far you live from the airport but instead of paying the storage charge, might it not be cheaper to leave the car on trickle at home and use a taxi OR allow someone else to use it while your away,? 🤔

Airport is 1 hour 10 mins away, taxis are around €160 each way !

Transfer is €29 per person.

No financial sense

Even a 5w solar panel will overcharge a car battery in Spain (my car battery was over 15v some days) and on dull days a controller might use more power than the solar makes. Difficult to size, maybe a 10w panel and controller? 🤔

If you can get to Benidorm the coach is about €8

Common problem leaving a car at the Airport...I have two Norwegian neighbours with vehicles that needed a jumpstart before they could drive to our resort....of course that short drive did nothing to restore their flattened battery....both had them replaced during the following days...isolation is the answer...

Supplier wants a report to say battery faulty.

I charged the battery overnight, still not charging fully.

I took the car to Feu Vert in Benidorm today, 45 mins drive. If they had said the battery was faulty, I would have bought a cheap own brand from them. But they tested it and said it's okay, I need to seek out the services of an Auto Electrician.

Drove 5 mins to the Big Carrefour and they had batteries on sale with 15% off, €85 for the one I wanted. I could of saved money online, but popped one in the trolley.

Gets to the car, click, no start. Fitted new Carrefour brand battery and hey presto, car starts.

I will be fitting an isolator and the storage company say they will disconnect for me.

Lets see.

Old battery in photo with green indicator showing ok @ less than 11v
