LIFE AFTER HELGA !!!!

Simply remove the plastic cap (leave it off) then with the bath Hot tap running turn the exposed spindle to where you want it. You can turn it back then replace the cap when you leave the flat for a new tenant. The cap has a lug that restricts travel. Once the cap is off the lug can't restrict movement. A simple fix that requires a Philips or similar screwdriver and possibly pliers to turn the spindle.

Ok good morning,,,

went out looking for a sofa and chair etc yesterday, not seen anything I like yet, well that’s not true, seen lots but some are just too big, and too much money!

going out again today, I will try a few more places!

now I think my water drama has been solved,,, I ran a bath last night, and although I could jump straight in, without adding a kettle of hot water, it was hotter than the day before, so at least now it’s liveable,, and the odd kettle of boiling water, for a really hot bath won’t kill me !! So I’m pleased!!

looks a bit chilly outside today, so I shall wrap up! Looking for a small kitchen table and chairs today, also a sofa etc, some bits and pieces and if I don’t see anything I like, I will get a temp blow up chair for lounge, that means I havnt got to rush to buy just anything!

have a lovely weekend, see you in a bit,, xx

Sounds like you are getting sorted. Make sure hot water is coming from the bath tap before putting plug in, all that cold water would affect the end result quite a lot! Good luck finding furniture you like, bet the airbed is nice for your back!

Have you tried the local charity furniture shops for table an chairs, we got a foot stool from one yesterday for a tenner. Local furniture projects, Sally Army. Not knowing where you are can’t offer too much advice. (y)

Ian you seem to be getting rather involved in blow-up items.:p

Blow-up bed, blow-up chair.

Might we know if there's anything else of the blow up kind in the new flat?

I use some of the following sites to try a nab some bits. Its a bit of effort searching through, Ian. However, often free and some things in great condition, but just offered as not needed. Most ya can search by bunging in your postcode. Just a thought.

MySkip: a celeb-backed swapping site with photos

Freegle: a new breakaway set of groups from ex-Freecycle UK moderators

Broken Link Removed: a healthy reuse site with a simple design and over 25,000 "virtual skips"

Whatsmineisyours.com: the original clothes-swapping, or "swishing", site

Broken Link Removed: another clothes-swapping site that recently launched a national swapping "road show"

RecycleNow: an official government site that has a postcode service to locate your nearest recycling centre

I would recommend these free sites as well, we just picked up a bunk bed set and a bed for our nice, from freecycle, in very good condition. As you have a van you can pick up larger item which is not always possible for everyone.

I would rather buy good quality second hand, than cheap new anytime! Very rarely buy anything new - it’s good for the environment too! ?

Our girls in their thirties love up cycling and realize Ikea furniture won’t last!
Had Ikea table, chairs, wardrobes etc in my flat now for 15 years, still like new,,Ikea kitchen ,25 year guarantee on cabinets and doors,5 years on electrical items,,,Well made reasonable priced furniture.BUSBY.

Good morning,, and here is the news!!

went to the range yesterday, got a few girly bits for the bathroom, and had a result over the phone,, Im picking up from a mate of the builders a sofa and a matching chair that he wants rid of, on Wednesday, only three months old, bought from a shop ( don’t know which one yet) in Norwich for his daughters flat, that she doesn’t like,, I havnt seen it yet, but it’s light blue and only £50 for the pair,, we shall see what it’s like! I asked for a pic, but couldn’t get one, so I’m looking first! I’m not fussy as long as it’s not hanging it will be fine!! I can’t quite believe the price the shops want for a sofa and a chair! It’s been ten years since I purchased furniture really,, everything seems so expensive new!!

now when I have that I only need a bed,, I’m in no rush the blow up one is really comfy, and doesn’t hurt my back at all !! But I do want a new bed, and good mattress, as has been mentioned on here by a few,, so that’s it,,,

I still need things like lampshades, lamps, bedside table, etc,, Ibe ordered a canvas type wardrobe from amazon, £29 that looks good enough for me for a while, and that comes on wed I think,,,
Not working till Monday week,, builder has been held up, but as soon as we’re out of this month I shall start advertising for my own bit of work!

I have met a couple more neighbours all seems ok, it’s hard to get to grips with having neighbours though, it’s been a while!!

mand another thing I have noticed,, when I woke today, I came in the kitchen, had a brew, put an old jacket on and went outside for a fag,, it was pissing down, and I didn’t know till I got out there!! Wired!!

another big difference,, I can boil a kettle, run the washing machine, have the tv on, put the toaster on, and the microwave all at the same time with no trip out of power! Lolol.

should get my bins this week, my van is full of cardboard and rubbish bags, I then will have to start recycling, something I’ve never really had to do!! Interesting!!

still can’t make my mind up about curtains or blinds, but I have a temp blind up in lounge and I’m not rushing!! If I see something I really like I will commit!!

looking for a van on eBay, gumtree etc,I would like a better looking van, a bit younger and one that doesn’t look like it’s come from a warzone!! I think my old thing is giving up the ghost,, bits are falling off,, lol. Not a good sight for a prospective customer,,
Asking a customer for £25,000 for a job while getting out of a baked bean tin is awkward,, unfortunately it doesn’t inspire confidence! Lololol.

well I hope your weekend is going well,, have a smashing Sunday, and I will chat later,, xxxxx

The sofa and chair sound ok, will do you for now at least. Yes furniture is expensive and not as well made as the older stuff, which is why everyone is saying go to Charity shops/freecycle/etc!
I love the fact you didn’t know it was raining, that’s the thing living in a van you know exactly what the weathers doing! Even our dog knows when it’s raining and she used to live in a house!
I don’t think everyone has got the hang of recycling, as some stuff you should recycle but they don’t want it if it’s dirty!!!
Told you the Air bed would be good for your back!

Have you got anyone in the flat above yet ? That will be the big impact as you will hear them walking around not so bad if they have carpets though . Gone are the days of hearing seagulls walking on the roof of Helga.

when we took our first flat the previous tenant left two lourved doors which they were obviously going to make a wardrobes in one of the alcoves i stood them either side of the alcove and wedged a broom handle between them that was our wardrobe for the next three years

That's the one thing I couldn't do with, with flats, having folks above you, wouldn't mind the top one but not the lower ones.

just as busby says chas,, there’s solid concrete floors here,, when the other lot moved in and from outside I could hear them banging about through the windows but nothing downstairs!! And no one has moved in above me yet, havnt got a clue who it’s gonna be,, as long as it don’t turn me into the miserable old bastard that lives downstairs I’ll be fine ! Lolololol.

I’ve just tried to upload a pic,, but when it’s ready I’m getting a message saying that this site has cookies and to accept cookies,, it won’t load pics ,,, how do I accept the cookies???

Morning,,,

well it’s gonna be a task today!
I need a van, so I’m going to have a drive around a few dealers! I hate buying vans/ cars,, don’t know anything about them, but just go on looks,,, I got lucky with Helga, and she was the last vehicle I consciously went out to buy,,, I’m torn between a little box van, Peugeot or similar , and a pickup, I will have to see what’s about! And I don’t want to increase my overhead by too much,, I might have to get a bit of finance but it will only be for a couple of grand,, hopefully!!

any advice??? Xxx
