I’m a newbie
I have looked at previous posts about this, but I’m still not sure about how the law views it. I took my LHD motorhome to the MOT station today. When I called to collect it they said that I would have to change the headlamps as the beam was not correct. My motorhome is a LHD Carthago Compactline 2015. I have all the previous MOTs and according to my brother who was the previous owner from new there has never been any mention of this when it has been been in for test previously. The chap said he would check with DVLA to see if I could just put stickers or lenses on it.
Does anyone know what the law actually is as I would like to be able to show the guys in the garage tomorrow that I’m not just a dim woman who knows nothing!

Well at long last I have the MOT for my motorhome. Its been there a week! I had to wait for the big boss to come back from holiday before I got the all clear. Younger mechanic was insisting that the headlamps were all wrong. Thanks to every one who replied especially Jock and Rita, Lenny HB, Pausim for that MOT info, and also Rob Turner for the diagram. This is such a good forum to belong to.

How do they adjust then ? with a lever or turning the unit ?
With a lever, they are the later version with a single H7 bulb for both main & dip and a reflector shield that adjusts for dipping. 2023 small Carthagos are using them now.

I am really pleased that you got it sorted, without unnecessary expense on the word of the uninformed. (y)

I don't suppose an apology was forthcoming, for both the misleading information, and the unnecessary delay in obtaining the pass certificate? :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Ah quite different to turning the projector unit.

No apology at all. To be honest I was just so pleased to get the certificate I was not bothered about an apology but it would have been nice.......

They finally agreed that the headlamps could be adjusted and they are now set for UK. Its a LHD motorhome so if I ever get to go to France or Europe I will have to change them back
You don't need to change them back as they will be set to flat dipping.
