A very well known dealer in the UK is telling me that I cannot now order a new LHD vehicle for UK delivery from them as the CoC's being provided by EU manufacturers are not acceptable to UK authorities.

Can anyone confirm or challenge this, please?

Solution2
My options are to accept a RHD version or do a personal import for a LHD version with +10% Import Duty plus +20% VAT (on the vehicle and on the Import Duty) to pay on arrival in the UK.
As said there is no import duty on vehicles from the EU, the duty only applies to vehicles from outside the EU.
Depends how much you want to spend but there’s a cracking LHD adria sonic a class at Alan Kerr motorhomes!! Simon-Alan Kerr will look after you. I can vouch for the sonic, it used to be mine!👍
Thanks, I had a look and it's a lovely one, but a bit big (and pricey) for what we're looking for

No, only what my Belgium dealer told, he is useally on the ball.
You would think there would be some official notification with vehicles ordered and due to be delivered next year.

I doubt there will be any problems with official Imports, if there is a problem it will be with self imports.
We will have wait and see what happens.

I've had another conversation with the UK dealer this week and they simply will not accept my order if it's for a LHD vehicle for delivery into the UK.

Another UK dealer selling exactly the same vehicles states there's no problem bringing the LHD variants into the UK and can do it without major issues. Is that to be believed?

Certainly, other dealers, such as those selling Morelo and Concorde vehicles that don't have a full range of RHD variants won't be turning away LHD orders from the UK customers, will they?

My options are to accept a RHD version or do a personal import for a LHD version with +10% Import Duty plus +20% VAT (on the vehicle and on the Import Duty) to pay on arrival in the UK.

Now, where's my calculator......

Yes you will pay 20% vat on import but you should claim back 19% from the foreign dealer so not a big number, and as far as the 10% import duty is concerned I thought that somebody else on Fun had brought in a van post Brexit and stated that this is not payable.

Sounds to me like the dealer you are talking to has only pre ordered RHD slots so is trying to get rid of these, maybe you could place an order with a different dealer.

I’m not with it, you’ve just said another dealer says there’s no problem bringing LHD vehicles in so you could order through him?
But you then go on to list your only options and do not mention the dealer who says there’s no problem bringing a LHD in?

I don't believe there is import duty payable on new vehicles, but there is on second hand vehicles

Certain Iveco and other truck-based vehicles will have too little EU content so will attract 10% extra tariff. (Something about a change to the self-declaration regulations on Jan 1). My info says it won't affect Fiat and Mercedes as they have enough EU content.

Many thanks for this info.

I did read the Gov.UK website here but it isn't specific enough to differentiate vehicles by origin or content.

You seem very well informed. Can you please advise where you found your info on this?

Sorry, I was overly brief.
The other dealer I spoke to can't deliver a vehicle until 2023 and I wanted it prior to that ideally.

Can I ask the name of the Belgian dealer as I friend of ours is wanting to buy a new A class. Did you write a post on importing?
We imported our 2nd hand A class from France, but as that was in 2015, things will have changed. Thanks

Sounds strange Peter as we know people with new M on order that won’t turn up till 2023 and they have not said anything.
A manufacturer with such high status and value product would sure have the capability to deal with such matters as there are U.K. agencies to assist.
Perhaps this is the case.

Hi l am sure you will find good advice from Funsters shortly. I would recommend checking this concern directly via the VOSA website.

Indeed that is correct however, the Belgian dealer has given me an ex-VAT export price so only UK VAT + any import duty, to pay

Ireland drive on the left.

As do Cyprus and Malta.

jongood said 'the whole of the continent', so if he meant geographical 'continental' Europe I suppose he is right, if we refer to Europe as including the adjacent islands then the 3 are exceptions.

And LHD vans are still being delivered and registered as far as I can tell.

So how is that working?

Have the rules been changed or are the dealers putting each MH through an IVA pre-delivery?

Somebody who has taken delivery of an LHD must be able to tell us, especially whether it was delivered with an IVA Certificate.

Hi Geoff

Obviously our van came in pre Brexit so normal paperwork C of C or whatever was required, I know dealers are still selling LHD vans so there must be a solution to any new rules and regs, but sorry I don't know the detail.
