To give the op some idea of how much gas the fridge uses I generallt recon we use 50p of gas a day when wilding/off hook up to provide for the fridge on all the time plus water heater cooking and water pump. We use no gas for heating as its a diesel heater. So if we go to a site unless the hook up is £2 or less we manage without.

My 2013 Globecar Campscout has neither AES nor is it wired to run the fridge from any 12V supply other than when the engine is running.
Have you checked to see if there is a 20 amp fuse in the AES postionon the Elektroblock. If there isn't, if you fit one it should be able to run from the hab batteries.

My 2008 Hymer could only use 12v with the engine running. My (not German) Le Voyageur likewise.
