Learn to crochet?

I have got my neighbour knitting poppies also I'm knitting them, if I crochet they look like fi
dish cloths. I MAY have an army of oldies doing them as well I'll ask tomorrow.

I cannot find the first thread asking for them, who wants the completed ones?

Went to Aldi (and so did mum) soooo I now have two sets of hooks .

Made some poppies (getting better the more I do) but before I continue are the red ones OK cos it's a very dark red. The pink ones were practice ones before I got red wool and are no good for this project, I know.

They are lovely ... I think @Puddleduck wants assorted colours so they would all represent someone killed .. eg ladies , black people, horses, etc etc ...

Can you count them and deduct from 49,521

Good on you. :)

49,504

Minus 4

= 49,500

Now I've done 3, how many do we actually need for what projects.:D
500 is a brilliant total amazing what can be achieved along with a bit of fun.
I've been practicing the magic circle which @Janine patiently showed me but some where between Chester and here the magic seems to have disappeared, but I need to work it out for my festival shawl, any easy ways to do it please.

I think Janine put on a link to a you tube tutorial for the magic circle Carol it’s somewhere in the last 45 pages

There are lots of youtube videos, @Carol - choose the one that explains it to you best.

That looks so much like when my neice was showing me her loom bands!

That looks really easy, she also holds hook in right hand like I do, if I use my left I cock it up.

@Carol Puddleduck also demonstrated the magic circle with pictures. In the early pages I think.

Our local Aldi was an absolute shambles. In all the tat/rubbish I found only one pack of yarn and that was black. I went from there to Poundland and they had 50g balls 3 for £2 which wasn't that good considering Wilko sell a 100g ball for £1. I thought I was sure to get something in the Factory Shop but they didn't have red.

I didn't have the energy to trawl the charity shops. Methinks I need to find a local Wilko - I know there's one in Norwich.

I've sewn in all the ends of the crochet squares I've completed. I may have a go at joining them together to get an idea of how many more I need to do.

Aaargh I've come down with the lurgy so having a sofa day and making poppies!

How many do you think I'll make today? Challenge on :-)

I had problems finding bright red wool last year - our local market came up trumps in the end with 100g balls for £1.50.

Probably 40 because you know what you are doing .... but you have the lurgy ... soooo ... my guess is 33.

Does anyone need black buttons sent to them ? I have quite a few buttons and am happy to sift through them and send a bag of black buttons out to someone for their poppies?

Check out Hobby craft - they have them, I think.

It's 47 miles to our nearest Hobbycraft!

I am aiming for 1,000 for 2019 (signing of the Treaty of Versailles) and as many as we can get on or before November this year - I know someone else was looking for poppies as well.

The red are fine for my project - as are white, purple, black and shades of these colours (including pink!)

[I'm feeling pretty  today having walked further than sensible yesterday. Martin has pulled a muscle in his back and we still have the Grandson so I am up and down and running round after them both .... not good]

@movan you only get one of the flower makers - some are more expensive than others. The blurb says that the big one is three inches across.
