Learn to crochet?

Thanks
I taught myself to crochet about 40 years ago and haven't done any since. Just some poppies.
So I'm never sure if I'm doing it right. I started out with a pattern but it wasn't working out. Mrs Badknee lent me a pattern book and showed me how to read the pattern but that was just for a granny square. I made the rest up. Believe me it is quite rough and needed some persuading to fit it together. But if I made another one I've learnt from my mistakes
I can never follow a pattern either and usually make up my own or follow Bella Coco on her you tube tutorials.

Thanks

You all ready knew what you were doing! It looks great Hilary. X

Baby jacket and hat ready for sewing up :) I am using the yarn I have left over to crochet blocks which I'll make up into a cot cover.

In DK it makes a 7,5 inch square when blocked (as it does need blocking). Mine has a blue centre, white petals and blue surround. The blue is shaded from white to mid blue. I also changed round 11 (last but one) to plain triple crochet as there is an error in the UK terms pattern and I couldn't be bothered (too tired) to work out what it should be.

Finished this baby cardigan today, added a few extras like the collar and the trim around the bottom. Hils and Glenns was with me when I bought the sheepsies!!

I’m in - now where do I buy the hook? We have a project here in Keynsham - spelt K E Y N S H A M ... to knit and crochet poppies to drape down the wall of St Johns Church - I’m hoping you can teach me before November! (y)
Our local charity shop got the village to make poppys for a window display for remembrance Sunday, we made a beautiful dress all made out of poppys. Got a picture somewhere.
This year they are doing it again in the form of a Chelsea pensioner. Each evening I try to do about 10 poppys. Helps me unwind ??

My project is finally finished. It has morphed as it's gone along so is very different from what I thought it would look like in the beginning. It doesn't bear close inspection so I'm calling it a prototype. The handles have been a real pain.
My idea was to make a crochet cover for one of those canvas bags. I'm a novice and this is the biggest thing I've made I think.

There are a few ideas here - or google easy free crochet patterns!

The difference between blocked and unblocked squares:

100_9852.JPG
100_9853.JPG unblocked

100_9854.JPG blocking in progress

100_9855.JPG blocking process complete

I may stitch down the petals but I'm not sure yet. I'm just making the squares to try out the pattern and to use up the baby yarn - it will make a small Linus blanket. :)

EDIT: I think my "travelling project" will be enough of these squares to make two single bedcovers for our guest room. The colours will be orange, white, electric blue and possibly dark green or brown for the centre. I'm not sure if the petals should be white or orange (or different shades of red through orange to yellow if I can get variegated yarn in those colours). I usually only have one project on the go at a time but know I will get bored if I have to make so many squares. I have not yet calculated how many I will need - or how much yarn.

Like the "Quilt in a Day" series that used to be so popular. You could certainly piece a small quilt in a full day so long as you have everything prepared and ready to go but the sandwiching and actual quilting would take much longer. I rather think people would send their quilt tops to be finished by a long arm quilting service.

I always wondered how many people were put off when they couldn't finish it in a day.

This is for relaxation and fun, there usually isn't a deadline.

I had 3 emails today saying that parcels would be delivered tomorrow only to get a knock on the door just before lunch and took delivery of all 3, just waiting on one which is definitely for today as I ordered it this morning; oh and took delivery for a neighbour as well who was allegedly out, except they weren't as the driver had been knocking on their side garage door (which isn't even attached to the house!) and then left the card tucked into the door jamb.
I was waiting for my new mobile phone to arrive the other day, an hour had passed after the delivery time and still no show. I checked on the DPD site and it said that it had been delivered and that I had signed for it......wrong and trying to get any help from them was hopeless.
In the end I went down to another No10 on a completely different road name & low & behold it was there, he was going to bring it up to me, but I beat him to it.
The other No10 has their road name under the house number beside the front door, do the DPD delivery drivers not read......grrrrr.

My first project was a Poncho MotorhomersRus

There are various patterns which just require 4 big granny squares. I also made this one which wasn’t too complicated, I can find a link if it’s of interest. View attachment 357928

Yes please if you don’t mind.
limited internet here so it will save me time.

So. NOw then. Reality dawns.
i have got balls of variegated colour yarn which will make a cardigan (eventually ?).
i now realise that the fab squares, hexagons and other blanket/throw items which i see both here and on Pinterest etc., rely heavily on the colour wheel. I was an art teacher - how did this pass me by? Dunno ?. Perhaps I have reached the “derr-brain” stage of life. My children used to call each other derr-brain quite a lot... like when Nancy asked as we passed a Chinese restaurant “ why does that sign say they have “no oodles? “ It says noodles! Nancy you are a derr-brain” (cue sulking, laughing etc)Anyway, moving swiftly on. I now need to visit that wall of coloured yarns my son found and go for it.
also, I’ve told you now, so I have to act ???
but not today. Today is sunny and washing and sneaking out to the Moho to see how many balls of wool I may need to cover my knees on the mean little back seats.

I've been looking through my crafting supplies deciding how much I can get away with taking and wondering where I can hide it on one or two small projects to work on while we're away. I found a half finished knitted child's cable jacket which I'd totally forgotten about, and the filet crochet runner which I started then left when I ran out of cotton and now I've got cotton but can't remember what size hook to use. So they're coming.
In my new bag I've also packed lots of octopus making yarn, a couple of half done cross stitches (one easy one not), my knitting needle case, set of crochet hooks, a pattern and yarn for a child's knitted jumper and various hand sewing needles, pins, tape measure, snippers, scissors etc. So I should be ok for most eventualities!
I've also ordered Janie Crow's persian tiles blanket pattern. It won't be here before we leave (thank goodness as I'd have to find somewhere to put that too!) so that's one for the summer trip. Although I've just found this https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/15762667434494983/ and it might also be a contender for the summer!

If you give me or dm me your email address I can send you the whole pattern - it will only let me email it :)
