leaky loo, found out the cause ?

A very merry christmas to all the Funsters on this site, that have given me the most incredible insite, and information over the past few months, since buying Renee in August.

Thank you all so very much, hope to catch up with you in the new year, but until then, my Adventures continue now, I am off to the Pennines and also the Lake District on the 27th of December. Away from SALES, and all that food omg! time to go on a diet, my scales say ! hahah

Wish me luck, I'm quite nervous about doing the wild camping, but for 2 weeks, away in sites, it would be far too expensive for me to consider, so it is either this, or keeping her in storage for the next couple of months, so taking the chance here ! See you on the other side, as they say ! hahah

Ahh Thank you Tombola, that is soooo reassuring to hear! Do you know if there is an lpg App, as I have two cylinders in the van, and hope those will last for the 2 weeks, but just incase, I need a fill up, lpg is NOT an easy buy in Suffolk, and and I have to travel over 30 miles, to fill up the tank, as there is not one locally sadly?

MyLpg.eu

And autogas app

Then this thread

99.9% of all my van camping has been 'wild' camping.

My very best advice is that if it doesn't feel right, then just move on.

It's probably fine, but if there's doubt in my mind then I just don't sleep well.

I'm normally happiest if I can find a suburban street somewhere.

I'll also often stop somewhere to cook and eat and then move on somewhere else to sleep.

In all the years I've been doing it I've only had two 'questionable' nights.

The first was dramatic as there were loud banging sounds on the side of the van. I woke and went straight to the cab to drive off only to find an amorous couple who were extremely apologetic for leaning up against the van...

The second was breaking my first rule. I stopped in the last aire in Calais on my way back to the UK. There was a group of eastern europeans hanging around. My instincts said no, but my better nature said I shouldn't be that shallow and judgemental. So I parked round the corner and set about preparing dinner.

I'd locked the doors as a precaution but was still surprised and disappointed in equal measure when the back door was 'tried' while I was still cooking.

I opened the side door and the 'perpetrator' simply walked off as if nothing had happened.

Thankfully nothing had happened and I ate in peace, if without hanging around, and then I move on and found a great stopping point right on the beach in Calais which I've used again since.

It's probably been seven years of that sort of camping and those are the only two times I've not been completely at ease.

So, be sensible, keep your wits about you, but don't be overly concerned.

Most people are good people.

You'll be fine.

I find the Autogas App more reliable here in the UK.

sweet caroline. I don't know where you are in Suffolk, but here's a quick view.

Certainly not the cheapest, but Morrisons Ipswich just off the A14 do Autogas if you are passing.

Cheers,

Jock. :xsmile:

Thetford..he he brilliant after u had problems with your toilet..

yes I think, that has all been fixed although, I am a bit worried about the fridge flashing on battery, doesn't flash on electric or gas, but it does on battery. So that is a bit of a b....r, when I am trying to do everything off grid, albeit every 3rd day I will onto a site to refill and empty waste etc. How do Vanlifers, live ??????? mmmmm

The britstop app may be helpful. I've not subscribed since they stopped the book. But the only time I felt uncomfortable a quick call to a nearby pub and I was tucked up in their carpark 30 minutes later.

I've always felt that if you turned up in a britstops carpark in the middle if the night you could explain in the morning.

Search 4 sites and park 4 night both have pub stops

People only know that you travel alone if you broadcast it.

You'll be fine

Remember, if its a 3 way fridge, the fridge will only work on the battery if your engine is running.
It runs off the cab battery when driving not the habitation.
When stopped it will have to run on gas, or if you have an inverter from the leisure and fridge connected, then it can run on that (thinks it's on ehu)

They use very little gas though so that's the best option.
Also remember your fridge will stay cold for ages if its not opened and closed too much.ive left mine overnight plenty times

Isn't that a quick and easy way to flatten a leisure battery?

We went away on December 23rd for 10 nights so 3 nights in so far.
Did a full Xmas dinner in the van, airfryer for the roasties and yorkshires, triple steamer for the veg and small saucepan for the gravy on the gas hob and chicken and pork in the gas oven.
Weather has been very mild and we haven't run the heating overnight yet and it has been 12-14c in the van when we've got up, which we are fine with.
If you have any problems try not to get to stressed as as you know there is plenty of advice and help available on the forum.
Have a great trip.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend it unless you have lots of lithium and solar.
I do it when abroad, but not often in the UK.

I was just pointing out other options, but shoukd have been more clear.

I did point out gas as the best option.

That is so kind of you to let me know, I suspect you guy are on a site, to run an air fryer, as I have been told my 1000 invertor would frazzle my wiring, if I try it on wild camping haha.
worth )Enjoy the rest of your trip, and like you kindly informed me, I most definitely will come back to this wonderful site to help me out. Renee is all packed up now tonight, deisal (ouch 120 £ worth,, and the LPG all of 10£ ), is now firmly in my van, I set off at 4am in the morning, to try and out bid those vans going to SALES mmmm.

Firsst wild spot, HARRAGATE, on Park4nite ! Scary haahhah

AHHHH. Well that might be the reason, then, as was only testing this on battery on stationery, noengine on. as I presumed it worked off the leisure battery, NOT cab battery, Silly Me ! Thank you for that, I will let you know what happens, when I start the van in the morning.
Do a Prayer for me, that all will be ok, and that I am SAFE in my van, as sadly went on some youtubing, where ppl, had been broken into ,whilst they were asleep! OMG sending shivers down my spine. So slightly scared, but wont admit it to my family, as they were all against me getting a motorhome

Once you've done a few nights you'll get over that. Good luck there will always be funsters Not too far away.

Don't listen to all what's on the internet. You get on with it. If you don't feel safe move on. :hugs:
I agree the Internet us full of twoddle there are thousands of singles out there that never have a problem. But that don't make clickbait

ok another random question, if you are going to Park4nite, where do you put your water from the shower, I usually have a large bucket on site, and empty it into the drain, what do you do on layby areas please?

Grey waste tank until you can dispose safely
ok, can you dispose in any drainage system, you come across on your travels, or do you have to have a proper drainage system at a camp site? What do Vanlifers do for both waster and elsan?

There are loads on here just search grey waste. You will find differing opinions.

I can do a week comfortably before dropping it. But it depends on how much water you use. You will soon learn to be frugal with your water usage.

ok, i can get 4 showers out of my tank, so probably every 4th day I will book into a site, to do grey waste and cassette, I thought, but as a newbie at this, I am wondering, if this is ok or not? I cant function without a shower each morning, so that is not compromisable sadly hahah
