Last minute change of plan.... So what are French Aires like during October?

10 hours till we set sail! Finished packing, done the tyre pressures, and thought I'd get weighed, fully loaded I'm coming it at 3470kg, ideal, except the the kids are at school so I didn't include them 😕, oh well, sure they won't mind staying home with the grandparents😂

Is that with full water? we tend to travel with empty tanks and fill up as and when required. Water is heavy

We have about 10ltrs of water and a full tank of fuel, might need to off load some of the provisions the wife decided to stock up on, sure we have a fortnight's worth of food... And we are only going for a week!

Standard!! We’re off Sunday and have a few packets of crisps in van. Looks like we will have to binge on seafood

We always travel with full water, particularly winter time on Aires you never know when the water will be turned off.

With full supplies, water, diesel and gas, we are at 4,960kg with a max of 5,000kg! so tight but ok.

I really don't understand so many people saying that water will be turned off on aires during the winter! We've been over loads of times in winter, including Christmas/New Year and the only time we couldn't get water was when the tap had frozen so not even that was because it was turned off!

Now that Camping Car Parks are around there will always be aires where you can get water in winter as their prices include it. If you just want to service the van you can pay for 5 hours rather than paying for an overnight stay.

You've been lucky, we've been to quite a few over winter where they have been turned off, why risk arriving late afternoon empty to then have to find another aire with water?

We're in the Dordogne. If we hadn't read about the fuel shortage, we wouldn't know there was one. Seen no queues or closed fuel stations. We're just regularly topping up as we go.
Plenty of room on aires, both paid and free.
Weather lovely!
Well-stocked supermarket shelves!🙂
