Just made an interesting discovery about the forum.

Being a little concerned about privacy I checked my entry.

If North Korea have targeted me, for nuclear oblivion via the Forum, I reckon I am OK.

I think it was Scotjimland that was putting pins on Google maps, but you obviously told him or put yourself on, ours will hopefully take you to our website for our apartment, we are always surprised the amount of people that find us by looking for a holiday near the beach on Google. 👍 Bob.

If it was using that information I should be down the pub😀

Likewise I click on Shropshire under your avatar and I get the whole of Shropshire highlighted by a ref boundary.

Could you have a look now that I've turned 'Location services ' back on please Martin🙂

Not that I can recall? In the mornings I often use my phone which has location turned on for use for delivery people .Whether it has picked it up from there?

Yes even when I reverted to 'spain' if you keep zooming in it shows the same.
You’re getting your location for your location.
Other funsters won’t get your location for your location.
Wait, could that be written clearer?
Your view of your Profle’s location is not the same as ours?

Diving in, I get:

I don’t have Google maps so even my own location is a guesstimate, I guess if you have Google maps on your device it comes up with your exact position.

I doubt that theory is right,
Google Maps works as an internet service.
it’s available via any browser or their app.

:doh:I don’t have Google Maps either. Lol
Not on the iPad. If I remember, later I’ll check the iPhone.

It seems to log into your google account - I noticed my log in details at the top of the page . It pinpoints my exact location based on my settings on the phone which tracks me by GPS. I get a monthly report logging every trip I make - my report came in today for February confirming my total movements for February were 2 trips 1 to the crematorium and 1 to my mother in laws - easy to prove if anyone questioned whether I have been staying home!

If someone clicks on my "southampton" in my avatar - does it show my precise location? Answers on a postcard please

My theory from above and news of a test from an off thread conversation: -
All the locations are client side.
Unless you actually have your street address as your location (or unfortunately actually do live in the centre of a general location 😳) other funsters just get a generic area of your provided location.
You see your location accurately via client side tools.

Nope shows you in the docks.
No wonder my feet are wet! I'm actually half way between Pompey and Southampton on the very edge of the Southampton postcode area. Half a mile east and I'd be from Portsmuff

Yes, exactly. Unless you have been very careful to obscure your location so google & other services doesn't know where you are, clicking on the avatar while you are home, using your home internet connection, will give an accurate location. Click on anybody else's avatar & google will only have the information in the forum location to go on, so you will get the general area they put in.

If you click your own avatar while sitting in a field somewhere, you will get the same result as anyone else clicking on your avatar. Just think, in a few months you will be able to give it a try.!

Looking at the photos alongside the map looks like i live in a very nice area:Grin:

Below the Avitar at the side of a post if you click on where they live it opens google maps in a new tab with the area.
As Lenny says its of the 'area' - so if you were to put Southampton (not sure you would admit to that but) it would place you in the City of Southampton, 'Hampshire' would be the whole county, only if you had put your actual address does it show the actual address except when you click your own Avatar. Three pages of real excitement.

🤣
Mostly 3 pages of discussion about a finding missed from your summary.
There’s a difference between the location seen by the Profile owner and that seen by “guest” viewers.
But still a bit of guilding the lily. 😜

Agreed, at least I know how to find where Hampshire is now!

Well that's bloody annoying as it shows I live in Glasgow, I definitely don't.

And of a similar theme,
I've just 'Discovered' that clicking on the 'Down' arrow next to the 'What's New' on the top line reveals all sort of 'Stuff'

All of the main menu down arrows have useful shortcuts (y)
