Jane & Rog’s retirement tour, Morocco 2023

From your experience on body work repair, we are getting our van repaired tomorrow, it’s going to take 5 days so will communicate on Sunday how it all went!
same place in Tafraout.

Any before and after shots?

You have brought together some very helpful details in your notes on Morocco. May I suggest copy and paste and put in the Resources section where they can be easily found.
🙂

I took the train over to see him on the Monday after we got back on the Sunday, and he seemed better than he had for a while. Then he fell over during Monday night and in the morning couldn't bear weight on his left hip. (Not that he can for long anyway, but it was worse.) This was the hip that was pinned when he fractured it about 5 years ago. He went into A&E and we thought this was going to be bad - but he was back in his care home by 4pm, X ray showed no damage. They swapped his antibiotics again as this infection is proving hard to shift. We visited on Weds with his phone (that I'd fixed AGAIN) and he seemed a lot weaker - but still very much wanting to go out for his 90th and not be fobbed off with a celebration in the care home :) He's a tough old boot!

His birthday is on 28th - we're planning to take over champagne and fish and chips as I'm not sure I want to risk him in our Mini with its low front seats! The main celebration is on the 4th March in a posh restaurant - luckily my brother can pick Dad up in his grown-up estate car :)

The van's heater is fixed - new sensor. A chap is coming to work on the leaks today, although Rog had a really good go when we unpacked, and he totally dried out all the areas - and the hot water started working! Maybe that was a damp issue? We're leaving that for now to see how it is over the next few weeks.

The air intake needs to be replace in the next month or so after it was patched up in Tiznit - not sure where Rog is with that to be honest.

Good news to hear that your dad is Ok & I hope all goes well for his birthday. It has been an excellent blog to follow & the information passed on by you both is priceless as you cannot beat experience from someone who has “been there done that!” Well written, honest & informative. Look forward to your next tour 🥂

If anyone is still following this thread, it would be great it you could keep up with us on our new trip. You were such great, and helpful, company on this Morocco one.

Wow I loved your trip to Morocco I’m so looking forward to seeing your Balkans posts. If you need any suggestions please feel free to send me a message.

I like reading these so thought I’d try to keep a thread up to date. The more family focussed version is on our blog.

We were booked on the 07:50 Eurotunnel yesterday, but as it’s a mere 20 minute hop from home we were there in good time and were bumped to a train leaving an hour earlier. Met another Adria Twin owner in the car park who usually travels with two Spinones - makes our one German Wirehaired Pointer look rather lacking in ambition.

We headed off from Calais in the driving rain, and took the autoroute to try and outrun it. Quite a cost - I haven‘t totalled it properly but must have been about 95 euros? We’ll try to avoid the tolls today, now the weather has improved.

Spent the night in a fantastic place we found on Park for night - a level, dry car park outside Vounieul-sous-Biard. (Just west of Poitiers.) It was very peaceful, even on New Year’s Eve. Also a great spot for dog owners - trails lead directly off the var park along the river valley.

The town has a pharmacy, a bar, and Google maps says it has a small Carrefour too - we didn’t walk that far.

We had a special celebratory “last day of last month of salary” meal, which featured English wines and a Wiltshire truffle, just to show those Frenchies.

We travelled over on the same train as yourselves and the weather at Calais was certainly pretty bad we stopped just south of Poitier on an aire at Pamproux what a change in the weather it was gorgeous.

Back on Dec 31st?

I think that’s about where we stopped for the night too, and we had outrun the weather.
