It's stormy in Spain.

The Fiesta in Benidorm has absolutely nothing to do with the British.! It’s a celebration of their (Spanish) Patron Saint,
The fiesta runs from Friday to Wednesday, the Thursday is the day the British bars put on floats and fancy dress parties.
A truly remarkable spectacle with 50,000 people in fancy dress having a great time.!
Also Benidorm is the biggest tourist destination for the Spanish, sometimes I wonder if any of the knockers of Benidorm have actually been there..???
Maybe not a British festival but apparently 50,000 are heading there thinking it is !
I think Benidorm is awful and yes I've been there .
Many people think it's great.

All the cars piled up on that street churn my stomach, how absolutely devastating , i wouldnt be surprised if there are trapped people under there, just thinking of people and animals caught in a deluge of muddy brown water is horrific.....poor buggers

" It wasn't even raining where the incident happened" but the water had accumulated in the mountains and took this village with incredible force.
& that is the problem we suffer here & is quite common in Águilas. If It rains above Lorca & that which falls between the Dam (reservoir) & the town ends up in the main rambla in to the town centre & which is up to 100m wide& seeing it nearly to the tops of the walls has to be seen to be believed.
Águilas even in summer has suffered from rainfall in the Almenaras which are between Lorca & Águilas & back in 2010 people were sunbathing on the beaches when torrents of water poured down the rambla from the Almenaras carrying cars, vans, etc across the beach & in to the sea.

When we had the Gota Fria in september 2012 here in & around Lorca & Puerto Lumbreras about a km in front of me there was a 'yeguada' a horse breeding centre .They had to release 200 mares & foals to fend for themselves as it was impossible to move them in the time available. Quite near to them a friend of a friend, Antonio, he & his widowed mother lost 700 sheep drowned as the Lorca to Águilas dual carriageway acted as a dam & completely flooded everything in front of it.
The animal loss of life was horrific.

It;'s surprising how localised these conditions can be. Got caught in a Gota Fria in 2010 in Alicante. Just a few miles south in Santa Pola, there'd been a bit of rain but nothing like it was in the city.

We were in Gandia, it had rained all day Sunday, we decided to head off Monday inland. So glad we did, still difficult to believe what’s happened. Must be devastating for those living there.

Is Benidorm flooded? 😳

Get a life

Hard when those attitudes prevail

But then you’re a man I suppose…..
I'm pretty sure there is an element of misunderstanding going on here, in your post it's not clear that you are referring to post #74 it looks like you actually made that misogynistic comment.

I think they changed the course of the river flowing through Valencia many years ago. Maybe that was a contributory factor to the severity of the floods there in exceptional rainfall?

I may be completely wrong but from my visits over the years I thought they had made the main river into a huge park, but that is only what I saw and possibly read about somewhere

We were hoping to stop off in Valencia in 2 weeks time on the way home, looks like we will need to change our plans and find a new route, as I can't see things being cleaned up and the A7 being repaired for a while yet.
