It's autumn in Spain, we're on the road again

You lot would need to go back to vintage traditional human traction bikes to get warm while cycling 🚲☀️😉
I've got heated gloves and hat connected to my eBike battery....🤔🤭 But living in our part of Spain we don't need them...I've thought about moving to somewhere north to make me tough again....🇪🇦😀😀

We had a nice catch up with Colin and Sandra yesterday and, after listening to their riding experiences here over the last two days, we may have to adjust our proposed route for today because there's mud about! The main part of the ride should be OK because it's on a wide gravel, driveable track. I'll be disappointed if our Dutch friends don't get a nice riding experience.

I'll post our findings later 😂

It's all in hand... I've re-planned the first section...🤭just in case our Dutch friends are reading this..

It was lovely to see you both again after what must be 3 years. Hopefully see you again before we had North.
Ride went well...our novice trainees completed the task as expected...no major mud issues..although starting cold it warmed up nicely...warm enough to stand outside with Tapas and a soft drink after...🇪🇦😃

Some photos from our ride, especially for Sandra 😂 Armytwowheels No legs were muddied in the making of this ride 👍. We'll hopefully see you again soon.

We know they enjoyed their ride because they thanked us for introducing them to riding in the mountains. That makes us feel happy as well.

Today we decided on a short walk. We've done very little walking from here in the past. Martin planned something using Komoot and we set off.

There were lots of cars parked at the (closed) albergue (hostel) and lots of Spanish motorhomes arrived here. Some of the occupants were heading off to climb the via ferrata and we passed two guys who were returning. No-one was walking on our chosen route though.

Been there and got the tee-shirt. We're too old to go back.

Out of interest what e-bikes are you currently using?

I’m toying with the idea of relegating our (non-electric) Cube Kathmandu trekking bikes to general duties as we’re unlikely to undertake any more mega journeys, and going electric for trail riding from the moho when abroad.

I’m sure you’ve said and I have missed it somewhere. Where is the MH park up?

Hi... we've had quite a few eBikes over the past 6 years....we do use, abuse and dispose of...many have done mega KMs others not so..
Our current bikes replaced two YT Decoys...which served us well, in fact our neighbours bought them and allow us access to them if need be.
Sorry...what was the question? Oh yes....our current bikes are, Judith has a Cube Stereo 140 full sus. and I ride a Canyon hardtail...both bikes have mega 720wh batteries...a great asset for multi day riding..

Martin planned us another ride today. Bits of it we'd done before but some were new to us. A very stony section we remembered as rough has improved so it made the whole route very pleasant.

We saw our earliest almond blossom so far. Its far too early. But maybe down to the climate this year.

Martin managed to make friends with some furry friends today, it's been a while.

We've decided to stay put for another night and go to Caravaca in the morning. We want to shop and Martin has ordered yet another bit of electrikery which is being sent to a drop off there.

Then ... I've found us a special place to go. Well it looks like it will be very nice. I'll reveal all when we find out 😄

We have a full day of filling/collecting/emptying today.

First off showering then van emptying and refilling. Then diesel. The cheapest around here is the nearest to us back on the road to Pliego. Then at the junction with Mula there's an ALDI and a Mercadina around the corner, so food stock up there.

Then, a bit of motorway drive to Cehegin for LPG, before heading to Caravaca to the motorhome area where, we were told yesterday, there's now ebike charging points which we just have to go to see and try.

We're then waiting around for the parcel delivery. If it's fairly late we'll overnight in Caravaca and move in the morning. Otherwise we'll head to my chosen, interesting, spot 👍

We'll have a wander round Caravaca and maybe visit the Fuentes del Marques park area. The trees should be nice autumn colours.

Didn't get a walk in the park because everything went to plan and we didn't get chance for a walk before the parcel was delivered. I took a few quick piccies in the Square heading to the pick up, and back.

Martin charged the bikes at the bike charging point. It's not inside the camperstop but in the car park next door, but he ran a cable over the fence and charged the bikes whilst they inside the van still. He got a few frowns, but no-one said anything, much to his dismay. He was waiting to put them right 😂.

We're now at our overnight freeloading spot. It's an area for car parking to visit the lavadero publicó de Zaén de Arriba. We'd just arrived, I was preparing lunch, when I saw this.

IMG_2164~2.webp

How lucky.

The area is visited for its lavender. Unfortunately it's at its best in July/August when we're unlikely to ever visit. There are some stunning photos on Google maps.

A couple are here.

It's also visited for its caves. I'm not putting someone else's photos on, I want to take my own tomorrow or Wednesday 🤞🤞🤞😂😂

We had a bit of an adventure today. Martin's planned route, that should have been quite easy to ride, turned out to have been badly damaged by floods in some parts. We had to push our bikes over some deep channels and also walk them through some areas of boulders and deep gravel.

It didn't spoil the morning though.

First though, I explored the laundry. Cushions on the walls??? Four of them, and this year's date. Martin was called on to do his Mr. information, once again. Giving directions to a guy on how to get to Nerpio 😂.

We passed the caves at the beginning and, we're wondering whether we want to hike up to them. More likely no than yes. Maybe another time. We have to take care of knees.

We did get to see the Castillo de Benizar, from below. It's a shame there's not much left, it must have been stunning as a complete building, although how it looked wouldn't have been high on the agenda of people around at that time.

I was worried about how some of the trails will have faired but I must say looking at that photo it looks like a lot of fun ...to ride down that is 😂
Some completely trashed, vehicle tracks 4x4 or better still Massey Ferguson...
Careful planning needed over the next few days...this was a hard hit area a few weeks ago, the evidence is there to be seen, nature doing what nature wants.🇪🇦🤔

Cannot say...we operate differently down here in Murcia... actually the truck had come over the border and was asking me, of all people....but I gave him good directions...
I'm waiting for the next person to ask me where I'm from...
My answer will be China...that should confuse them even more...

Well that took a lot of looking, plus maps-me search( rubbish) , then web search ( bingo) top of the hill, marked and worth a walk up !

We woke to fog, so it was easy to drive away. We drove into sun as we approached our present spot, Cañada de la Cruz, the most westerly village in Murcia along this route to Andalucia.

It also has, at its rear, the highest mountains in Murcia. Obispos at 2014 metres and Revolcadores at 2002 metres (we always thought that was the highest and that's the one we did many years ago).

I'd found a Wiki route to ride, but Martin used Komoot to replan it. We should have used the original. We made a big mistake which had us pushing heavy ebikes (even with Walk mode) UP a single track path, with rocks and slabs and bordered by brambles. Martin is now sporting a few new plasters on his legs. To add insult to injury there was a dead something (muflón or deer) taking up the narrow path. We had to wriggle the bike past and step over the body 🤢. We joined the track we should have been on all the way 😂

And from the parking, Sagra, near Cazorla, is identifying as a volcano 😄
