Is this even legal ?

While agreeing with everyone on this, how many of you can remember going for a weekend in the back of a Bedford CA van or even a pram in the back of a commer van , in a time long ago I never had anything but a van and everyone got in the back sitting on a wooden bench.
When I started work we had CA vans with a wooden bench down each side with about a dozen men in it.
Different times.

Same as.
Transit minibus with wooden seats both sides, only 17 at the time but by day 2 I had a nice comfy cushion to sit on as 3 hours a day in that was not fun😁

Plus I didn’t smoke but everyone else in the van did 😭

The subtitles of one of the lads talking were complete gibberish. Either the speech recognition was useless or the lad was as high as a kite.

The whole thing is as if they are all pissed, including the camera work, why would you make a film like that if you was right, serves no purpose.

I look at the video and think what a prat., he needs to be nicked.

Then I think about just a few years ago.

We only had side-facing two-point belt seats for years. We'd take great care separating the kids out as we were aware of how dangerous it was even 28 years ago, and they were always belted, even if it was side-facing. but it was all we had.

Was never a stickler, about kids getting up to use the loo. They'd have to ask, most times it was a no, but they get one minute that I choose when I consider the road to be OK.

When we have had little time to chase some sun. I have slept in the bed when Siân has been driving and vice versa.

On long lonely autobahns and E Routes we have swapped driving seats while travelling at 55mph. Our cut off broom handle cruise control gadget helped there.

While everyone else was safely strapped in Siân has made countless meals and brews, and served them with steady legs that would impress professional cabin crew

What age is the motorhome? if it's pre October 2007 there's no legislation governing rear seatbelts. if they're not already fitted they don't need to be and it's perfectly legal to carry passengers on them.

If they are fitted it has only been law to use them since 2006.

The legislation was not retrospective.
Thanks. I didn’t know that. Our Hymer was first registered July 2007. It has inward facing seats (which we love) and no seat belts. We only travel two up, so not applicable, but it means rear passengers would be legal.

From another post here: is it illegal for the front seat passenger to have their feet up on the dash? My wife does it often.

Back in the day, our three kids often used to travel / sleep on the rear bed cushion (the vw in my avatar). I did eventually fit seat belts in the back for them. But the fixings would not have complied to ‘rules’. I think the front seats had factory fit seat belts though. Not sure we used them much back then!

The kids all played in the streets with the neighbours, rode their bikes everywhere, climbed trees etc. I doubt much of this happens in our socially conditioned, elf and safety world of today?

We all survived.

We advise against it here, but I'm not sure if its law, I know in a couple of countries in the EU they will nick you for your passenger's feet on the dash.

I do it. It's comfy. But I'm well aware if we hit something my pelvis will end up in 4 pieces somewhere close to my tonsils. It's very unwise.

Driving Police J4 and Ford Transits with slatted wooden bench seats in back. These were used for great effect in metering out summary justice to scrotes being taken to Police Station, switching lanes even a few times at only 40 mph guaranteed quiet prisoners on arrival 😜

Summer Holiday is on BBC as I'm reading this.

No seat belts. Cooking on the move. Just reached the point where they're in court charged with having no bus operators licence...

Can’t watch any more of that complete joke hope the get pulled

The family in question are making unwise choices, meanwhile some posters on here are making offensive insinuations and harsh language which is pretty low too.

Worth a read

I can't believe that people would even think this is ok. It's wrong on so many levels. Those children will be thrown around like marbles in an accident.

Whilst not condoning the seatbelt use etc.
Most of us on here are old enough to remember a time when this would have been normal.

I survived a head on smash aged 3 weeks.
I was unhurt in a wicker moses basket in the rear of an estate car.
Those in the seats (seat belts were not even an optional extra in those days) were not so lucky, all ended up in hospital for a considerable time with life changing injuries

I remember going on Scout camps in the mid 70's in the back of a lorry,
30 kids and couple of tons of camping kit including gas, what could possibly go wrong?

I worry where will the kids land up. Very sorry for any teacher!

Why all this "we used to do it" stuff? We may have done, but roads and traffic was very different. Cars were slow compared to today. We also used to play in the street, would those reminiscing suggest it is OK for kids to play in the streets today?

Just the sort of motorhomers you don't want pitched near you. Loud, ignorant, thoughtless, stupid and coarse. Poor kids don't stand a chance in life with these two idiots as role models. Darwin's theories used to weed these out but the welfare state and political correctness nowadays shields them from the criticism and sanctions they deserve.

Just what I was thinking, imagine them on the next pitch :X3:, what a total nightmare. I can't work out if he is pissed or just totally retarded in some way.
Yep, good ole political correctness, a system that prevents honesty.

Be careful what you wish for!

Darwinian evolution would probably select for these individual. Selfish, self centred, aggressive and sometimes reckless. Can make for pretty potent survival mechanisms!

in a dystopian future and or collapse of government rule, this type of individual may well have the edge! Maybe not the brightest in the bunch intellectually but they are probably very suited for survival when the sh*t hits the fan…

If I had to hang out with them after the collapse of humanity, I don't think that I would be to worried about surviving. :giggle:

Hi iwonder if you can help me, we are a group of motorhomers who have had long discussions about seat belt law in motorhomes and cannot find answers , so i thought if i wrote our questions to you you meay be able to help as it seems a grey area. so here goes;
1) If a motorhome is pre 2001 and has no rear seatbelts yet is a 4/5 berth can passengers travel in the back without seatbelts legally?
2) If your motorhome pre and after 2001 is a 5 berth and has two front facing seat with seatbelts in the rear and then has rear facing and side facing seats can the extra passengers travel in these seat without seatbelts legally?
Thank your for your patience and we look forward to your reply

Thank you for your email.
The seatbelt law states that were seatbelts are fitted they must be worn, so if seatbelts are not fitted legally adults will be able to sit in those seats. The law is different for children
The law requires that all children travelling in the front or rear seat of any car, van or goods vehicle must use the correct child car seat until they are either 135 cm in height or 12 years old (which ever they reach first). After this they must use an adult seat belt.
Children would not be able to use side facing seats
If the seat is side facing Children are prohibited from travelling in the back if the seats are sideways facing, even if they wear a seatbelt or travel in a child seat. Research has found that seatbelts offer very little support in the event of a collision on sideways facing seats. As a result of this the new car seat laws now prohibit children travelling in the rear of motor homes on sideways facing seats
Sideways facing seats are not a safe way to travel but there is nothing in law to say that adults cannot use these seats.
Hope this helps.

From the Derby or Notts area
No , dialect is wrong.
More likely south to West Yorkshire judging by the children’s accents.
Not Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire , or should I say not one I recognise having lived and worked in the areas for the past 60 years.
Only my opinion though, ta me duck!
