Is the true EV motorhome on the way?

Some truck's will and are going BEV but the economics of this does not correlate to motorhome use until battery truck chassis are around the same price as Diesel chassis, then we just need the infrastructure ;)

Remember not all countries charge the same levels of fuel taxation either.
Those that don’t maybe don’t need the same welfare and health revenues🤷‍♂️
I’m not clever enough to go hunting for facts but I can see our health and welfare expenditure going through the roof, the roads are in a shocking state and that’s with all the tax that’s being generated through various means inc fuel duty, we can’t really afford to let the trucks run for nowt without paying in.
Incidentally as an aside we got chatting in the canteen having just seen the vast array of company EVs rolling into the carpark for a meeting and Someone Said I wonder what the ratio of EV sales are, company to private sales. Interestingly not one private EV in our car park, in fact I’m trying to think if I know one person that’s bought an EV out of their hard earned cash? I’m sure there are but I don’t know anyone🤔

me :)
though I know Im in the minority, and i think haganap too.
It was only last week I posted here that all the faff and everything to get a few quid back through the company just isnt worth it for me, never has been, even when I was driving ICE.

but I do get your point, the lost revenue has to be clawed back somehow.

but also did you realise that fleet sales of cars in the UK even before Evs was around the 60% mark last time I had this convo

Isn’t china one of the biggest polluters with coal fired power stations so not really saving the planet

Nov 28 (Reuters) - China is leading the global renewables market and is on track to reach a record-breaking 230 gigawatts (GW) of wind and solar installations this year, consultancy Wood Mackenzie said on Tuesday.
China's estimated installation is more than double the number of U.S. and Europe installations combined, Woodmac said in a report.
China's wind and solar project investment is expected to reach $140 billion for 2023, the report added.

.....and me (from 2015) and the wife (from 2023), we have bought both of our EVs. Just the motorhome to go EV now, but I don't think MH EV's will be the norm in our lifetime, but I would love to be proved wrong!

Getting back to the original topic of EV motorhomes. I am watching with interest the Roaming Radfords VW Buzz (electric) campervan conversion.

Personally I struggle to watch them but it is interesting to see what they are doing and see how it works out. For me it's far to small to be practical.

EV only cheap compared with ICE due to the taxation structure. Laws will change, you will only be allowed (legally) to charge an EV via a registered charger which will be taxed to regain the present revenue.

Really, do you have any documented information on that? Must be April 1st........oh, it is!

Even if such an outlandish idea did materialise, the UK Government (of all colours) screwing us is nothing unusual, the upside will be, we would not have the oil companies (and countries) also screwing us while at the same time poisoning our lungs with toxic emissions from burning their products, that will be a pleasant change (said by someone who is now in the 3rd week of a bronchitis event and still suffering)!

Nope, nothing to do with the tax system, although there are benefits for business users. As an EV buyer/owner, other than a bigger purchase price when compared to an ICE equivalent (although the differentials are diminishing), an EV is just about cheaper on every other cost-line. Servicing is much cheaper (in my case circa £100 for annual service), with at least one manufacturer not needing any scheduled servicing at all. Tyres are now the same as ICE, although early EV's did have to use low rolling resistance tyres which were more expensive, and no, EV tyres in general do not wear out quicker, in fact the opposite is true. Brake wear is far less than for an ICE vehicle due to regenerative braking, so pads rarely need changing, and discs probably never. All these benefits whilst not spewing out noxious substances that affect your and my lungs, but more importantly in my mind, our grandkids lungs. What's not to like?

I agree extra tax will have to come from somewhere, but as for "legally" charging etc, no, there will be other ways.

you only have to at the Norway model, People like maccies, parking meters, gas pumps all replaced by chargers and that the business will ultimately pay taxes.
80% of new cars sales EV, 92% of all car sales either EV or hybrid in norway

Most original incentives, perks, being withdrawn now they have been used up. And this remember from a very cold country (battery loss).
Its still not perfect for 100% of any population, but if norway can do it ???

Asia has a huge issue with air quality in the major city's which part of the cause is burning of crops/rice fields but diesel fumes doesn't help so they have an extra incentive to go electric.
