Is Camping-Car Park as good as it sounds?

That is very re-assuring . A few years ago , winter touring on way back from Spain , woke up to snow
( ! ) in the centre of AURILLAC in the Auvergne , overlooking the river on one of half a dozen spaces reserved exclusively for Motorhomes in a pleasant tree lined quiet town centre car park - free ! Well signposted . Fascinating local museum about their Volcanic history . Just one of nearly 5,000 Aires in France . Who needs cosseting on CCP sites …
Yes, we stopped there. Free electricity too!

Oh , the irony of a “ Clinically Extremely Vulnerable “ guy still obliged to wear an FFP2 mask going shopping , but still seeing the nonsense of much of the Government’s confused and confusing Covid rules ! Precisely my point , nothing more , nothing less . Nice to have one “ Funster Friend “ !

As for Eat Out To Help Out , Cummings’ Great Absolution at Barnard Castle , Wine O’Clock Fridays at No. 10 , Billions ( really ? ) wasted on Test & Trace , we have not even touched the sides of Government incompetence . PLUS the huge range of “ Exemptions “ they gave themselves to swan around this country and abroad : just seeing the list at Barcelona Airport was mind blowing , 48 hours before returning to the U.K. I should have put down “ Boris’s dog handler “ - the Checkin man said “ put down anything “ and then stamped my documents OK ! ! Absolutely true !

I doff my cap to you Mr. Autorouter . ( I too was in Aldi today , our reliable wine merchant amongst other essentials … )

I can see where he's coming from. I take great precautions due to being 'Clinically Extremely Vulnerable', and was for example wearing an FFP2 mask going round Aldi today, even though nobody else was. But you must admit much of the Covid response was nonsensical. Waiting for weeks to implement testing, allowing people in from hotspots without testing, tests being lost or not arriving, ignoring ventilation requirements while handwashing like crazy, the list is endless. And that's before we get to Eat Out To Help Out, Barnard Castle and Partygate.
Hello again . They ( the promoters of this site ) have have just taken down my earlier reponse to your own experiences of all this Covid nonsense - “ unnecessarily too political “ ( ! ! ) - just because I fleshed out your comments about “ Eat Out To Help Out , Barnard Castle , and Partygate “ - your words not mine !

Jim lad ( the site promoter ) get real , this is the world we live in , not the make believe world of retired state employees or such like . I stick to the facts of my own personal experiences , which just might benefit others . If this Motorhome site of yours cannot cope with a genuinely helpful approach from someone with many years practical experience , but low in high tech expertise , you are doing no service to any Motorhome enthusiasts , or putative Motorhome owners , with all our different foibles , different vehicles , different financial circumstances , and different needs . Pathetic !

i expect this too will be taken down . Not too bothered . Would not wish to upset any of your more delicate contributors or those with contrary opinions ( who can and do stick up for themselves ) , or upset such feeble management . Over and out . Simon Bocock .

We are now on our third here in Quillan, our first was as above, all ok functional and serve their purpose.
Do check surroundings via Google maps etc as well. Also park outside site and walk in and check space.
🍻

We are on the camping car park at Villefranche sur Soane. Having just left another one at Montenay-montlin. Camping le Coq. This was one of the best we've been on. Brilliant showers and toilets adapted for disabled people. Good dog walks. You could fit four vans on our pitch.
We're heading to Villefranche tomorrow, is the Lidl within walking distance and is there a restaurant near the entrance?

The Lloyds Bank App for IPads does work very well home and abroad , but I had to go into my Branch to get them to sort it out . No idea what they did .

It is safe to say that no scalps will be burnt with 6 amps !

The only fly in the ointment for me with both Lloyds (business) and Halifax (personal) banking apps on iPhone & iPad is if needing to amend an already set up future payment. As I recently found out, after forgetting and scheduling a payment for the first day of the extended Jubilee holiday period (doh!) and needing to amend it poste-haste while away in the Emerald Isle, the Apps won’t allow it and instruct one to go to the ‘desktop website’. Twice luckily, I’d stored my login details on the phone and the local library in the small rural Mayo town was open on a Saturday.

Sounds a bit complicated ! Had the same problem with the Spanish system too . All sorted , but no idea what they did at the Branch !

We have used them on this trip frequently. The Camping de Mon Village ones usually have proper pitches and facilities such as washing up sinks, showers and toilets. Yes we're self contained and don't need them but it can be a pleasant change to get into a full sized shower cubicle or letting your dirty dishwater down someone else's drain. We weren't so sure about the ones near the coast in the Vendee as they are more like big car parks with facilities, however you do get a good level pitch and all services. Tonight we're on a free aire and it's a good one. In the end it's all about where you are and what else is available. For us the few pounds on the CCP aires is worth it for facilities and security.

That was a long read.

Ordered the card as it seems it is for life at €5 plus postage to the UK. Off on June 29th and back on Bastille Day. Short break for most of you..... See what happens. Have no idea if 6amp will suffice but I guess it will as long as all the things on board aren't all plugged in at once. Have LPG for cooking and heating if it is needed.

Over the last 40+ years have camped at many municipals with the bike and a tent. Only bought an EHU kit about 25 years ago as we decided to stay for a longer period for and after the French GP at le Mans. Worked a treat running a light bulb! ;)

What I would like is to know what app there is that shows day parking in France where we can "do the tourist thing" and park legally. Ideas?

Have a look at Search for Sites, Camper Contact, Park for Night. Sorry I can’t get links to work.

Try the leading French Motorhome magazine App on their internet site www.camping-car.com for virtually all of some 5,000 official Aires in France . Updated each month . Worth a look at “ Camping.Car Magazine “ . Far more comprehensive than anything published in the UK .

CCP virgin here at our 1st site, looking at the modern bourne there is a large spout emanating from it with no labelling , is this to empty the contents of the toilet?

You did it.
Not seen one exactly like that before but yes looks like for cassette emptying. The pipe type ones like that are so much better no splashes don't have to wipe the poo off your sandles after.

What a shame we will miss you. We are moving onto Alp Dhuez. Yes restaurant on site. Lidl about 600 yards straight walk up the road. Also access to swimming lake via a gate onsite. Path is opposite toilet block. Toilets not open yet. There is a couple from Margate just near toilet block. Have a nice stay. Free WiFi at the front of site.

They are all different. Some sites have manholes. Some have toilets. If you have a card and have money on it drive to entrance and place card over keypad this will raise barrier.

Thanks, standing in my own poo is not good but manageable, standing in someone else's is beyond contemplation ::bigsmile:

We have noticed on this trip that a couple of what would have been Municipal sites are displaying “under new management” signs and both have been taken over by Flower Campings. They were both at the cheap end €16 and €14 and in the ACSI book so win win, you collect points and I got an extra €5 off my second stay.

Just an extra to CCP. Not sure if you can join online but it’s easy to join at the first campsite.

You can. Let Google translate to English if your French is dodgy. Mind you €5 for the card and €4.20 for postage might mean joining onsite... 😉

Not in our case, even with the help of a Frenchman who was waiting to exit and also the lady behind the help button. After 25 minutes we gave up. We think that maybe the system did not like our Polish € debit card.

We used P4N to find a better spot by the river.

We have never tried again. We are self-sufficient so do not really need what they offer.

We stayed there at the beginning of May, on our way back from Provence. It's a large ex Municipal campsite and was packed by the end of the day. There must have been around 100 vans there - mainly Germans in transit. They were queuing up the street at 4pm, trying to work out how to get in :giggle:.

It's a good transit site, but not one we'd have stayed on for more than one night. The river bank is nice for a walk, but most of the surrounding area is quite industrial.

Lidl is an easy 20 min walk away. Whatever you do, don't try to get on the Lidl carpark in your van. It's definitely not motorhome-friendly (y)
