Is Camping-Car Park as good as it sounds?

Doesn’t boil your kettle ? - I use a 800 watt kettle which draws 3 amps it works no problem .
I can use my 600 watt microwave to make my porridge in the morning
I can run my Truma Hab aircon which only requires 2.8 amps along with my tall fridge and battery charger .

on 6 amps at CCP sites
Very good . Keep at it !

Mr. Lenny HB : I don’t think we are going to agree on any of this electrical stuff - but each to his own ! My own much modified Dethleffs LHD is totally all weather self contained and has no need for any CCP or Municipal sites when I go to my property in Spain ( indefinite free parking overlooking the marina as well - how this reminds me of the U.K. ! ) .

Just wanted to share with others some of my low ampage experiences with CCP in case this helps . Happy 6 amping !
I think you are just being unreasonable you seem to have a bee in your bonnet about it.
We often stay free Aires with free EHU and don't bother to plug in we don't need it.
IMO all motorhomes should be self sufficient it's not hard to make them so.

Another advantage of CCP sites is that I haven’t had to use my full 50m of EHU cable for quite a while, and most outlets only have one plug in them, but maybe I’ve bee lucky😁

We’ve used a few in our recent trip away and found them a tad expensive for what they are. But you get a decent size pitch and all facilities. With a large b2b and solar, we probably aren’t using the ehu to charge, but just fridge. We use the elec 1 setting on the Truma to save a bit of gas. Don’t have elec kettle, but it powers my tassimo no Probz.

This is my take on this as well, why do you need any electric at all, the only time we have ever hooked up is this spring at haven in Skegness just to power a small heater, and that was only because it is a mains one and couldn't run it any other way but in France in summer we can't go to the hassle of unwinding the cable and messing about even if it is free when we have nothing to run off it.

In over 30 years of mootorhoming in France mostly staying on municipal sites I have never seen a 16 amp supply. Usually it was taken that 6 amps would be sufficient as that was the norm. If they had a 10 amp supply this had to be requested and quite reasonably had to be paid for. I can remember often being advised by the campsite manager that 6 amp would be quite sufficient - which it was. I did blow the fuse on the 3 amp supply when trying to use the hairdryer though.

Do try CONDOM ( 32 Gers ) Municipal : immaculate but casual , superb modern “ facilities “ , 16 amps , free Wi-Fi , lovely riverside walks through extensive parkland into historic town centre , very good value . Seasonal . Why mess about with 6 amps when you can run anything electrical you like for as long as you like ? Personally I can’t be bothered with all this ” high tech “ additional power reduction / conversion kit stuff . ( As for having a microwave to do your daily breakfast porridge - why not just stay at home , as somone else has stated … ) .

Get a “ Splitter “ ( two outlet adapter ) so that you can share “ la branchement “ with your neighbour . Just ask nicely . No problem . For example , virtually essential at HONFLEUR at busy periods on this town centre Municipal Aire directly overlooking the harbour . Why not also try two 25m lengths of cable with a joining adapter ?

On a recent trip through France and Spain I came across quite a few 16A posts. There was one 13A, and even one 20A.

My post was meant to be humorous, I carry 25m, 15m, and 10m. Use of the multi-way adaptors show even reduced 6amp is still useful, (to most people). The early days of EHUs on French municipals were an experience to behold.

Totally accept what you say - merely trying to be helpful ! Electric hookups on French Municipals years ago were indeed “ speculative ” to say the least ! These were also the days of the “ one hole crouchers “ : woe betide if you didn’t leap out of way before flushing …

Exactamente !
I wonder if you are please able therefore to confirm what , if any , additional documentation is now required for campervan owners to leave and return to the U.K. by the cross channel ferries ? Having now been stuck for two years . Thanks . Simon B .

The van not having being “ allowed out “ for two years . There was some talk a while ago about having to produce “ a lettre d’honneur “ in France , self certifying that you did not have Covid … plus your NHS vaccination certificates . Thanks . Simon B .

You don't need any paper certificates, all that is needed is to upload your NHS thing to say you have had your jabs to the tunnel two days before you go.
Nothing else needed anywhere in France.

Mr. Chaser : that is very re-assuring , many thanks indeed .Simon B .

They are not even bothering to check vaccination status now.

I wouldn't listen to someone like me:-) I'm the one that was stuck for an hour in the customs area in Dieppe because I had the wrong NHS app that only showed two vaccinations, while I downloaded the proper app that showed all three. That was April. I think they're a bit more relaxed now.

We were stuck in the queue at Dieppe in April, now I know who to blame.
Coming back a couple of weeks ago no checks at all.

We're going to try our first one tomorrow, it's to the west of Lyon. The app doesn't play nicely on my Ipad but works well on my android phone which is a surprise since it's normally a dogs dinner 🙂

Good luck ! I’m a great IPad fan . However , I find that Lloyds Bank App for IPads differs from their smart phone mobile phone App . The Bank assumes , and appears to have confirmed , that all us internet banking customers work from mobiles … I thought they used the same Apple technology .

If you need Electrics , happy 6 amping !

I haven't tried the Lloyd's app on the Ipad yet, think ill stick to the android phone.
Anyway, I need 6 amps for my hair curlers....

The Lloyds Bank App for IPads does work very well home and abroad , but I had to go into my Branch to get them to sort it out . No idea what they did .

It is safe to say that no scalps will be burnt with 6 amps !

Just returning from the Auvergne using 3 of the CC Aires. Nights were often cold at around 3000ft so happily used electric 2 for hot water, morning air heating and 800w kettle for coffee. No problems.

We are on the camping car park at Villefranche sur Soane. Having just left another one at Montenay-montlin. Camping le Coq. This was one of the best we've been on. Brilliant showers and toilets adapted for disabled people. Good dog walks. You could fit four vans on our pitch.

I presume the OP realizes that the fact that there is a socket you can insert a blue16amp plug into doesn’t always mean you can draw 16amp from it.

We're just north of you at Gigny sur Saone, going south tomorrow. This will be our first night for 5 when it hasn't been thunder and lightning and heavy rain.

We've had some spectacular thunder and lightning at night but been nice during the day. The rain has been like exceptional as well. More like tropical storms.

That is very re-assuring . A few years ago , winter touring on way back from Spain , woke up to snow
( ! ) in the centre of AURILLAC in the Auvergne , overlooking the river on one of half a dozen spaces reserved exclusively for Motorhomes in a pleasant tree lined quiet town centre car park - free ! Well signposted . Fascinating local museum about their Volcanic history . Just one of nearly 5,000 Aires in France . Who needs cosseting on CCP sites …
