Went to top up my IQ Go sim today with 100 gb of data for £20.00 to discover as of 20th September (yesterday) they have changed the conditions to a fair useage policy. 100gb in uk and only 25gb in Europe. Up until today I had had no notification of this. Am I doing something wrong or have any of you come across this. I find this a little frustrating as they were keen enough to take my annual subscription a few weeks ago.
Looks like I shall be buying a local data sim.

Just tried to order a Data add-on on-line, as current bundle has been used. Seems they are not accepting any further data bundle purchases. Has anyone else had the same problem?
That sounds like they're going out of business ? Hope not

Strangely they're still promotong IQ Go on the website

I can get as far as the checkout. Dont want to go any further as I can spend £20 on a Spanish Sim and get mor GB to play with.

Panic over. Just topped up on-line. Must have been a temporary issue (IQ’s or mine???) yesterday evening.

Just to say that I bought a 100gb top up from IQ, activated 29 September, and currently in Southern Spain. No problem with data throughout trip, have now, used around 80gb. When that runs out, will use the 100gb on my ID mobile phone, which will be handy 😉

Just had an email from IQGO. Their new roaming sim is the same as Poppit £75 for 100GB at the moment. Lets hope they can find an alternate supplier at a cheaper cost.

Dear Howard,

We’ve had some exciting developments with our IQ Go roaming bundles. Effective immediately we now have the 100GB bundle back available for purchase with no fair usage cap in the EU.
Yes, you heard that right! The most popular roaming bundle is back and there is no cap on usage. We have also been able to remove the duration for which you can roam for – so it can now be used all year round! Read on for more information and how you can take advantage of this new development.

How does it work?
It works exactly as it did before, you can top up your IQ Go SIM card with the new ‘100GB no fair use’ bundle, it lasts for one month like previously. And if you use it all up then you can just buy another and maintain your super-fast internet connection. There is no need to miss that episode of Corrie! Or deal with that French or Spanish operator who does not understand your needs like we do.

How much does it cost?
It’s £75 for the 100GB, un-metered, un-restricted and still no need for a VPN!
All our other bundles remain unchanged and are still available for purchase in the normal way.

Will I need to do anything with my router or SIM?
No, the SIM will remain exactly as it was before, £20 for the year, then when you go away you simply buy the bundle specifying the Date you want it and the SIM to put it on, then we take care of the rest. The (APN) settings also remain unchanged.

How can I buy it?
The bundle is live now on our site - https://helloiq.co.uk/collections/iq-go/products/iq-go-data-options-no-fair-use And you will receive the same unmatched, super responsive friendly support from our UK Team of experts over WhatsApp, email, or phone!

What else is IQ working on?
If this new bundle isn’t for you, don’t fret we’re also working on some alternative options with other suppliers, whilst this one has lots of benefits such as:

  • Not having to change SIMs
  • Keep the router settings the same
  • Benefit from the EE roaming partners and fantastic coverage when in the UK.
However, if you are looking for alternative options we are working on those as well, and maintain anyone loyal to the IQ Go service will be offered a free migration to any new service we launch where a new SIM and new router settings might be required as well as free support in getting setup and onboarded.

For now, we hope you are ready for hassle-free, uninterrupted roaming with no fair use and the same great support!
As always, thanks for being an IQ customer, if you have got any questions contact me or the team on the details below and we would be delighted to cover any questions you might have

All the best

I have been trying to stick with IQ Go, but this is expensive.

One of the main attractions of the sim is that you don't need a VPN, but this is quite a cost jump.

Will have to think about this and compare with alternatives.

I agree. I had the same email.
I think they have currently priced themselves out of any sensible market.

From the wording of that email IQ Mobile appear to be leaving the door ajar while they continue to search for other EU data deals. Until then I’ll now ask for a refund on the remaining annual IQGO SIM subscription I have and look to getting a suitable French/Spanish one on my travels. I have a 99p for six months Lebara SIM in slot 2 of the router that will work until I get one sorted.

Like Popit they are being held by the short and curlys. Great company to deal with but this is probably too much for most people and they know it hence looking for better deals. Good thing it does not need a VPN for UK TV so saves a few quid a month and less hassle.

The extra 100Gb costs over a local sim pays for a VPN for the other 11Months. Many decent VPN's at £50 or thereabouts for a year, and £25 for a local sim max.., and you'll likley get 300Gb not 100Gb.

Most of the major VPN's now have apps for the firestick so it is literally super easy to use too. The one I use (ExpressVPN which is about £80 a year with discounts) the app for Firestick allows you to even pick which apps to send via the VPN, so you can not pick Netflix for example whilst making iplayer go via the vpn.

£75 per 100Gb is in my mind at least not even remotely comparible with a VPN+Digi (Spain) or Reglo (France sim).

I think right now, you need a VPN or you'll be overpaying with whichever sim deal you buy.

Yes, bit of a conundrum. Having visited 11 different countries on our last excursion I don't want to get in the game of swopping sims all the time. The IQ sim was perfect (iPlayer etc) in that situation and no need for a VPN. I'll have to wait and see what develops.

Just on the VPN issue, I'm presently in France on an Orange fr. data sim. having ditched Popit whilst on this trip.
I run Surfshark VPN, but am consistently unable to use BBC iPlayer as I get the message that they've detected I'm using a VPN and can't therefore be confident that I am in the UK. Blocked!!
Does anyone else get this?

Had it with NordVPN on BBC for the past month whilst in Spain, but it was working fine yesterday .

I think all the VPN providers have this issue from time to time. UK on the one I use (Express) has Manchester, London, East London etc. When it appears I just try another region (still in UK) and it fixes it. East London is what I use most of time.

It's always whack a mole, but if you report where you were connected to to your VPN provider and it not working they may well take that IP address out of rotation to help others. After all the whole reason VPN's exist is mostly to avoid things liek this.

Worth noting I do not send my Netflix down the VPN as we mostly watch Netflix originals on there, which work pretty much everywhere in world anyhow.

Soycd has an important point. Like him we have been to 11 countries this year, and it will probably be the same next year. If you don't want to keep on swapping sims in each country, and be able to have VPN-like coverage everywhere, you have to think seriously about this.

How much are you prepared to pay for convenience? One thing I will say about the IQ Go sim (and I have two of them), is that in all those countries, from Tromso to Cadiz, and from Brest to Rome, there was never an instant when we were without a good signal on our Avtex wifi (mobile and static).

It gives me a dilemma.

To watch iplayer with Surfshark, if you click on VPN in the app and scroll to the bottom you will see ‘small packet’ turn this on and you should be able to watch iplayer

I have two options for this trip, an ID mobile unlimited sim for £15 per month with no EU limit because of a special offer at the moment (I’ll cancel it when they stop the offer, as it’s a monthly sim). I’ve also recently changed my home broadband to EE, so have an unlimited sim for £16 per month in my phone, which has an EU data pass ( should be £20 per month) for free, which means I can use all my data in the EU. This is a 24 month deal, but if it continues to work as well as it has the last few weeks in France & Spain I will be happy. The total cost with EE was not much more than my old broadband & mobile deal, & much cheaper if I factor in all the EU data sims I had to sort out (IQ, RWG etc etc). My fingers are well & truly crossed! 🤞

I had trouble moving from country to country on our last trip with my EE sim. I found out, too late, that I needed to power down phone and power up again when changing countries in order for it to pick up the best network.
This was going France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, France. I only sussed it once I got to Luxembourg!

Shame that IQ Mobile have moved to a £75 for 100GB plan. Might be OK if the data lasted longer (until it was used up) but it only lasts a month and then expires or needs topped up / renewed.

I used IQ in a Netgear M2 router, it worked flawlessly in the UK and EU, but that price means I’m out. A shame as I’ve been genuinely impressed with their service / responsiveness. I mailed them today and had a refund for my SIM within the hour. Again, superb service. I also liked the fact it uses the EE network in the UK as an alternative to the 100GB per month I have on my mobile contract with 3. Good to have options. And in reality most of our campervanning is done in the UK with holidays in EU as we are both still working.

The other MVNOs who use EE seem compromised. LycaMobile, Talk Home and SPUSU don’t appear to work well with mobile routers / MiFi. LycaMobile customer service also seems questionable.

So I’m thinking I may need to throw my lot in with the 3 network and go with a pay monthly SIM deal with ID Mobile for the Netgear M2 given their pricing, data rollover, currently unlimited roaming and the fact that their SIMs seem to work fine in a router based on experiences I’ve read here. I can then perhaps switch my mobile contract to an EE MVNO when it expires in May next year.

Decisions, decisions.

As I read it, ID’s current promotion removes the roaming cap for ALL customers, including new. The 30GB cap is still referenced in each plan as that’s their standard terms and when the promotion is over the cap will be reintroduced. No date for that yet.
