Hey everyone, we're fairly new to owning a motorhome and our first years insurance is expiring and has gone up considerably :oops:. Can we have some recommendations for good/reputable companies please. Last year was Devvits which was through the Caravan and Motorhome Club.
Thanks in advance :giggle:

Club care again this year. £45 less than last year and improved policy. 180 days euro cover, and a few other better bits. Changed their underwriters apparently

I moved over to Motorhome Protect last year and have just received my renewal quote. It is approx £80 cheaper than the best quote I got on a comparison site so no brainier for me to renew with them. They do advertise on here and I’ve been pleased with their approach. However, how good any insurance is, we only really know when making a claim, thankfully I haven’t had to yet!

Just gone with Adrian Flux, had my renewal letter from caravan guard, Flux was £100 cheaper and included 3 months European cover with roadside assistance and no claims bonus protected, I did haggle with them and got £50 off their original quote, also I said in a previous thread L.V insurance are not taking any new customers ( and this was just last week)

Just got off the phone with a lovely lady called Wilma at NFU! We have got next years insurance for £42 a year less than Comfort want, lower excess, and no admin charges for any future changes we want to make or if you want to pay monthly, Happy with that!

I'm with just campers £335 all in 45yo 2 accidents 1 at fault, which I thought wasn't bad.

I did mine via Carole Nash with Highway. It went down by £200 - yes that's Two Hundred Pounds.

£70 more when we removed two extra drivers who have just gone to work in the southern hemisphere.

If the keep this up next year they will be paying us.

Adrian Flux for me every time!

My van is coming up for its first insurance renewal date. I had an email from Comfort telling me that renewal would be £438.80, (£8 more than last year) so out of curiosity I decided to have a look at the members deal on the Camping & Caravan Club website ... its just come in at £817.85 :eek::eek::eek::eek:
I take it you're not a C&MC member but worth a try if you are.
I know everyone's needs and circumstances differ but I really can't see much point in saying that XXXX insurance is best without giving an indication of the cost. We're in our late 70s with full NCD and Fully comprehensive CAMC cost us £396 last year.
I can only repeat this. I assume that people who say that so and so are best or my quote was £80 cheaper this year are frightened to put in the real cost in case it turns out they've been had.

The cost of mine is £186.00 fully com and with European cover and that's £60 cheaper then last Yr and no reason to be frightened to say so

Folkranger The actual price anyone pays is so variable, depending on the area we live in and where our vans are stored that its difficult to make comparisons like that. So long as everybody is happy that they have a good deal is good enough? My vote now is for NFU :giggle:

I wouldn't join C & M C, before I got my van I joined this site and also the forum on the C & M C website. It took them over two weeks to moderate my first 'welcome to the club' post, while other 'newbies' had their first posts put on straight away. It put me right off, any organisation that can't even run a simple forum is not worth me spending my money on imo! Also since then I have read a lot of complaints about the attitude of their campsite wardens. We camp mainly on the road outside our various children's/friends/families houses (or driveway if we are lucky) and at folk festivals so more than one camping club membership is probably more than we need! Last year we only needed one 'proper campsite', although we didn't have a van until June ... :giggle:

I have just purchased a highish (to me) value A Class, having moved from a highish value PVC.

NFU comprehensive cover for myself and my better half, with protected NCD came in at £365. No EU time limits, unlimited glass cover.
New van has been comprehensively specced with add-ons by previous owner, including, thankfully, a Phantom Sentinel Ultimate alarm/immobiliser/tracker.
I was with Advance with my previous PVC as they were much cheaper but Advance's best for the new van was £781.
Go Compare could only find 4 companies who would insure me. ( see attached).
Having a helpful, friendly, locally based person on the phone at NFU and a local office to go to if I need to was also big bonus to me. Very straightforward as well.
Also as a mutual society they share profits with policyholders which resulted in a 10% reduction in renewal premiums last year.

I posted my recommendation on my best quote regardless of what the actual cost was , I search extensively every year for such as circumstances change year to year , for me it’s been 3 different vans in last 5 years for example , and have found Comfort Insurance to be the best on each occasion ,that’s nothing to do about fear of being had, it’s the fact of getting what you need at the best price you can get.

Now that's informative. Incredibly cheap too, for anyone's circumstances.

The OP posted for recommendations because their insurance had "gone up considerably" so while other aspects are important, i think a price indicator from everyone would help.

Pointless posting a price , a new A class for a 35 year old in central London is no indication of price of a 3 year old PVC for a 62 year old in rural Scotland , it’s who they went with that returned the best price for them and their personal circumstances is more an indication of a good deal .

A bit left field this one.

The Camping and Caravanning Club.

I will add that this week, while on a rally, I 'discovered' a chip in the windscreen.
It was all I could do to remember who I was insured with but in ringing the main switchboard, they took over, and, 16hrs later it was not only repaired but another one I hadn't noticed.

No dramas, no worries.

If everyone on this and similar threads posted their price it would give a really good indication of price. I'm sure everyone is aware of the differences due to circumstances and won't be easily misled. So why not?

We have used Comfort for years our premium increase this year £2.
I am just going through the quotation process at the moment. £45k, 2012 motorhome so a dealer told me this morning when I phoned. With 5000 miles a year and European touring but limited time.
Safeguard = £1,227
Highway = £674 via Safeguard - Scenic
Highway =593 via Motorhome Protect
Comfort using AVIVA = £319 + £65 for European Breakdown £65
So....
Those of you using Comfort have you had claims on the van or breakdown they offer more mileage but only an online quote at the moment.
Any Coments? £900 difference is amazing. None it seems will accept my 6 years French no claims bonus.
it is really a mine field.

Had a claim with Comfort years ago, premium didn't go up.

Comfort mileage goes in 2000 mile increments we pay £394 + £65 for breakdown Van insured at 75k & 8000 miles a year, 6000 miles would have been £364.

Thanks Lennie that's what I needed to hear just been talking to NFU you have to phone them if you want to cross the Chanel and pay extra but didn't know how much. As for Morocco, no idea! and then we got cut off before he came up with a price. So it looks like it will be Comfort. Just got to get the Moho MOT'd first next week.
Steve
Edit: Just spoke to Comfort and they don't cover for Morocco anymore! Which could be a deal breaker for us unfortunately.

As per my previous post , I just took out NFU insurance for the new van. . Unlimited EU cover was included, no mention of having to call before going. At the risk of being rude....did your age come into play? I'm mid 50s.

No he said that they only insure for UK use now and I would need to call if I wanted to go abroad. No mention of age and it wouldn’t be a problem just an extra charge But he didn’t know how much. So for me a useless insurance. Without also being rude, best to check your policy Just in case. He also wasn’t phased when I mentioned Morocco but again didn’t know how much.
So possibly a bxxxit effect if you initially insured before then.

See attached. When i got the paperwork through the post the next day I did phone and query why it said 'CAR' and was assured that the "computer says motorcaravan" and this is just how they work

. I was asked about the weight at the point of providing details, which is currently sub 3.5t, maybe this has a bearing on your quote??
I'll know soon enough if this causes issues when i call them to say I've up-plated. The helpful chap did say that the normally free breakdown cover wouldn't apply as it is a motorhome.
Anyway, I have an International Certificate of Motor Insurance ( green card) and a policy with the correct registration and vehicle type (ducato) so I'm confident I'm covered.

I'm not promoting NFU or affiliated with NFU in any way. I'm just relating my honest opinion of my experience last week when trying to insure my new-to-me A class. I had a great service, a pleasant person on the phone, great cover and a good price. I'm happy but maybe they won't be the best for others.
