Pick up our new and 1st motorhome on Wednesday! Need to start to look at arranging insurance. I will do the usual price comparison websites etc but any recommendations. Any things I need to be aware of to make sure it's covered properly?

3. Who are you racing and why?

Remapping an engine can improve its driving characteristics not just make it faster. With an engine like most MH's have it will improve torque. The Fiat 2.3 comes in 3 power levels anyway.

Having said that I wouldn't do it without telling the ins co. You risk invalidating your insurance. In a write off situation they may well check.

Is the van parked somewhere not insured? if so GET IT DONE!!! for what you have paid £340 is not a lot tell them you have had a recommendation you may get a little extra discount they did with me because I just prepared and then on hand over (private sale) rang them and said start the policy please, the van was already insured with Comfort. it started from that moment. I then drove it back with a lovely overnight next to the Wye. they were still the best this year

And change your avatar to GOT ONE or similar have wonderful times :party2::party2:

I don't pick it up until Wednesday - hence trying to sort insurance now Don't worry - not going have £60K of van sitting anywhere uninsured!

Is this a new registration? If it is the dealer will need the insurance before it can be registered.

Ours was £202.19 from LV but, only £1k personal effects

Tried to get a quote online (I assume LV is Liverpool Victoria). First their website doesn't recognise my reg no. (maybe because it's only just been registered?) So I tried to select the model manually and Burstner doesn't exist. In fact, I'm sure there were no motorhomes there. Odd because I did click on' MOTORHOMES when beginning the quote.

So I rang up and got told they don't do this 'model'. As in Burstner. Seems strange. Then he seemed to suggest they only did campervans. Again odd, as it says motorhomes on their website.

So, not a good start. Is yours a Motorhome or a campervan?

Yes - new. Dealer rang up with the new numberplate on Friday and all is in place to collect on Wednesday so I'm not sure that is the case.

edit - not according to this

LV Website doesn't deal well with M/Home Insce. We rang Call Centre and spoke to Laura who had to access a different part of the system, and the 'ahm's, 'erms' coming down the breaks in the silence on the phone suggested she was having to play with the software to get the sytem to generate a quote!
Caravan insurance can be bought online easily; wonder whether M/Home is a new offering?

When we bought our new one last June it came with 14 day Caravanguard fully comp' cover note insurance, the usual thing that all car dealers do now, let them give you a quote etc. We had already adjusted the policy we already had with Comfort for previous vans.

Been with Comfort in various names since 2012. They've all been Victor Milwell Insurance trading as... and have always been underwritten by Aviva.

Current Policy cost £335 including windscreen & full Euro recovery, I think it's 5k personal effects. The only difference being that as it's a Ford chassis we had to scan and send a copy of the installation certificate for the Phantom Tracker.

The last 2 motorhomes I bought needed an insurance certificate before they could be registered, the latest one was in 2019. Perhaps they have recently changed the requirements.

Some dealers can use the online registration system but not all. Best to check the vehicle is properly registered before you drive off.

Fallais got into trouble because the dealer messed up the first registration

How odd.
Yes, ours is an Adria Coral Axess 670sl on a Ducato chassis. I think you need to call them and tell them what the chassis is that it is built off. They said to me that they were not particularly interesting the converter only the vehicle. On my schedule mine appears as a Fiat motorhome.
Hope that this helps.

You cannot get insurance without a number plate. You don't get a numberplate until it's been registered. Therefore they (the dealer) must be able to register without insurance. I'm sure they know what they are doing as the have plenty of unregistered new mobile homes there and are a big dealership.

Also they pay the first years tax so that will show whether is is registered or not.

You're probably right. However, the benefit of ringing them and dealing with a live person rather than doing the "one-for-this two-for-that" dance heavily outweighed the slight additional cost. I also found that if they got too far ahead of the competition costs then they were amenable to negotiation. I'd probably use them still if they insured campervans and given the number in their market sector who have them I'm very surprised that they don't. I'd always thought that the rumbling noise in Folkestone was the trains in the Channel Tunnel, but perhaps it's Sidney de Haan turning in his grave - it's an opportunity I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have missed.
Saga do offer motorhome cover, I used them for 5 years only had to change when we imported as they wouldnt insure on a VIN number, possibly going back soon as NFU ( who were very good in other ways) don't cover Croatia or Morocco.

A dealer can. They do it all the time.

I meant.a private owner. I need to insure it before I drive it away, therefore the number plate is needed to arrange insurance.

The dealers are issued with a block of registration numbers in advance and these are then allocated to clients buying new vehicles so that they can arrange insurance in advance. The registration only takes place later after the DVLA has processed the application. Sometimes it is done online but both the new motorhomes I have purchased needed to be registered by post and it takes about 3 weeks before it appears on the DVLA database. It is illegal to drive the vehicle before it appears on the DVLA database. Many years ago there was a 2 week period of grace allowed but this no longer applies.

My wife and I spent the first night in our new motorhome on the dealers premises because the registration had not gone through. Fortunately it popped up on the database at 0830 the next morning and we could then drive off.

We are picking up our new MH at the end of the month. I have already received the V5c with the reg, but it's not recognised on the insurance database. Spoke to LV several times and the short of it is that they are only interested in three things, make of base vehicle, fuel type, and manual or auto. In my case on the LV website when reg not recognised, select Ford=>Transit=>Motorhome, and it goes through. I did ask on one call are you not interested in the price paid? Nope.

That was what we found. Their interest was as you stated. I have just pulled up our previous insurance cover from CAMC, it reads;
Policy underwritten by, Highway Insurance Company Limited
(Part of LV=)
Statement of Fact
Fiat Adria Coral 670sl - 2300cc - 2019 - 5 seat caravanette - date of registration, price paid, registration, present value (same as price paid)
Usual blurb after that regarding alarms, drivers, where it is kept etc.
Thereafter it goes onto the bells and whistles for contents, windscreen and the likes. On the CAMC cover I am reading this is where the differences are but, mainly personal possessions are £5k as opposed to £1k with the new LV cover.
I hope that this is of help to you.

I went with Comfort. It was one of the cheapest and seems to cover all the basics plus new replacement in the first year if it was stolen/written off. It was very easy to arrange online. We didn't add breakdown cover as it's a brand new van and therefore has breakdown cover with Fiat Assist.

Adrian Flux is good. Rather amazingly having a tracker and an alarm made the quote slightly MORE expensive!
A working factory fitted immobiliser was the key to getting insured,
