iNet box and Truma 4E epic fail - thus far.

Hello all. Spent better part of weekend trying to install an iNet box on my Truma 4E with little to no success. The box is ex eBay but appears to be functional - Bluetooth and update functioned correctly - but when hooked up as per the Truma manuals it does not recognise either the (iNet ready) control panel nor the 4E combi unit. Following Truma instructions I unplugged the existing Combi 4E to CP data cable and plugged it into one of the TIN 1 jacks on the iNet box then ran another cable (6 pin RJ12 ex Amazon.com not oem Truma) from the other TIN 1 jack to the control panel. After this the panel only displayed the clock and settings icons suggesting to me no communication with the Combi. Numerous restarts, power downs and cable swaps but still no joy. Grateful any suggestions from the hive. Ta, 762.

Sounds like the Truma RJ12 cable is a different pin out to the eBay version.

Potentially but why does the iNet box not recognise the Combi unit? Am using the original Truma cable between the box and the combi so it should show up on the device list. Are you running this system?

Have you done a initialisation on the CP panel after everything has been connected? It's easy to check the pin out is the same on both cables with a multimeter.
Is the combi 4e iNet ready?

When I first installed my iNet box I missed the initialisation part of the instructions and it didn’t work. Soon discovered this bit and it has all worked well since.

“ The iNet-capable appliances connected to the Truma CP plus control panel must be known to the Truma CP plus control panel. If this is not the case, you must perform the following steps on the Truma CP plus: Start the search of the appliances under menu item “Service menu” -> “RESET” -> “PR SET”. After confirmation, the Truma CP plus control panel initialises itself. “INIT ..” appears on the display while this is in progress. This stores in the Truma CP plus control panel the appliances that have been found.”

Might be worth checking that the panel has properly initialised to the new connections.

I wish I could remember but it was a while back. I think it all just worked thereafter.

Yes, the connection is strong via blue tooth.

The boiler software needs to be higher than software version V05.00.00?

Yes. Some old injuries play up in the mornings especially so it would be handy.

Ok that’s the goal. I’ve written a wall of text to Truma and hope they can identify a solution. I do have a Truma gas level device but it does not show up either - maybe too far away from the box.

In the UK Three does not operate on 2G and the others will eventually have to withdraw 2G coverage. I believe T-Mobile is the only US network still operating 2G. However this should not interfere with the bluetooth operation of an iNet box.

AFAIK all iNet boxes are 2G. That convention is being or has already been phased out but at least here in France will be supported until at least the end of 2025.

I get the system voltage but that’s all. The gas level is not reported because I haven’t yet paired the box with the transmitter beneath the cylinder…

I only get the system voltage when the CP Plus panel is powered down.

As soon as I power up the CP Plus panel, I see water and air temps.

If your CP Plus panel is powered up, then it sounds like a communication problem?

On mine the voltage is shown on the status screen when the panel is powered up, below the temperatures.

I expressed myself badly.

When the CP panel is powered down, I only see voltage.
When the CP Panel is powered up, I see voltage and temperatures.

When i connected my iNet to my aldi system i had to connect the actual iNet to the actual Aldi boiler board, i have seen several cases where they are trying to connect it back to the Aldi control panel which for me was not correct. Once connected at boiler end it all kicked in and everything started to work, not sure if this is the issue as you mention Truma so it may be different but thought i would mention it. Also for sure they use 2G on iNet so must be able to use that network else it deffo wont work, mine is using a giffgaf sim for the last 6 years.

Epic win!

After a week of frustration and cascading failures, I am happy to report that my iNet box has been successfully installed and is now smoothly controlling the climate and water in my “vite mobile”.

The issue was a third party cable that I had sourced from Amazon.

Amazon inadvertently sent me a cable with a reverse configuration which was marketed as straight. They have been suitably chastised for their oversight as have I. Really should have first checked that the cable was correct but by that time I was headfirst down other rabbit holes.

Cabling basically has two formats - Straight and Reverse. The Truma TIN data cables are straight format which can be verified by comparing their plugs; the wires within each plug should mirror the other.

As I say, a frustrating experience, but on the plus side I now know how to make hard and soft resets of my Truma Combi 4E and have a firm grasp of how the iNet system works. I also know more about RJ12 6P6C cabling than is strictly necessary.

All part of the game and appreciate all who took the time to contribute
