I'm on a laptop anyway, as I don't have a smartphone. Just tried the hosting website and I can see it fine. Very weird. Not to worry. Glad you didn't get any damage to your van, anyway! Have a great rest of your holiday :)

Their thought processes are not that sophisticated, we had two try on my RV at Calais one got under the cover of the scooter on the rear rack . The other (Dumber) tried hiding in the entrance footwell whilst we were both inside , its the only way in and out !! Needless to say he didn't stay there very long when i found him :)

We were there on the 11th Jun staying at the Ouistreham Aire which overlookes the ferry terminal and walked to the WW11 bunker museum which is just around the corner. (Excellent ..well within visit). We must have been lucky as we didnt see any potential immigrants on all our walks around there. As you say, unless he had suction pads to his hands and feet.he wouldn't have a cats in hell chance of latching onto your rear end.

What was he going to do once he was onboard your van?
Have a fight, like what happened to a mate of mine after finding a girl and two blokes in his van after stopping at the services before the ferry. He noticed a rear window open in his mirror, pulled over to investigate, the girl who was on the bunk above the cab and one of the blokes who were both hiding in the toilet ran off. He ended up having a proper fight with the other bloke who eventually ran off.

I honestly think that he was hiding just behind the tree like 15ft Infront of his friends who prob shouted at him "NOW" and he just started to run after me , btw the ferries we like the length of a french motorway slip road , so he would of just wanted to stay on the rear until I entered for the ferry then get himself above or below the van ( that's if I was going for the ferry ^^ ) instead we were on our way to a WWII bunker :)
His mates probably just said "GO" when they saw the front number plate, and the guy stopped running as soon as he figured there was nothing to hold on with.

Poor lad, sad what life has come to for some people.
He didn't look like he was on the edge of life to me, most of these are economic migrants, don't forget some of these are paying £000's to get to the UK.

Which cameras do you use?
The rear camera that recorded the footage was bought from Argos
Binatone FHD300 1080p Wide View Dash Cam
889/5413
And the one that is clipped over our interior mirror where I use the rear display when driving is a

Now with the wolfbox one as far as I can see it only records the front image

That is the bunker we were on our way to see :)

That was my thought too. I can understand why genuine asylum seekers are desperate with their lives being in danger due to persecution of one form or another but any other migrant who is eligible to come here can use the legal immigration process at far less risk and cost than a trafficker's fee.
I have a hunch that many people worldwide have become dissatisfied with their lot after becoming aware of the opportunities and benefits available in other countries via T.V. and the internet/social media.

So we are currently away in France in our MH ( PVC ) which is fitted with both front and rear recording cameras with the rear view also active on the interior mirror all the time.
So minding our own business while I am following my sat on our way to a WWII bunker in Ouistreham.
We come to a mini round about where I notice a group of about 5 youths just hanging out on my right hand side at the entrance / braking zone of the mini roundabout , luckily for me I did not have to give way at the round about , as when I was just entering and driving around the roundabout I seen that one of the group had been hiding behind a tree , ready to jump onto any British vehicle that stopped at the roundabout, when I watched back the footage I seen that he had actually jumped out and began to chase after us ( our MH ) as we drove through the roundabout and even for a little bit after it.
I managed to cut the exact clip from the CCTV and have uploaded it here :

It was only after the guy stopped running after us that I realised why , Infront of us was a ferry terminal lol , I'd been to busy paying attention to the sat nav directions to notice any ferry signs.

So lucky, you didn’t need to stop.

French friends were telling me recently that their sister had taken in an Iranian seeking asylum here in France. It was refused. Three years down the line this educated, personable young man who wants to work and make a life here can't because without the paperwork he can't get a job, open a bank account, get accommodation etc. He wants to work, is well liked and integrated into his local community. He says he can't go back to Iran, which let's face it doesn't have the best of reputations on human rights etc (although I don't know all his background and circumstances).

So... the small amount of money he brought is running out, continuing like this is not an option. He says his only option now is to head to Calais and get on a boat to the UK, if he drowns, he drowns (his words not mine).

So if asylum is refused in the first/second/third country they arrive at, what other options are there?

He has my sympathy (and I'm seeking clarification, not confrontation), but why didn't he bring the 'paperwork' (passport presumably) with him when he left Iran? Presumably his action in leaving Iran or the political/administrative/legal situation there means he can't now get the required documents.

What is so wrong with the EU that they don't what to stay there?
After all, a heck of a lot of us Brits seem to want to spend our lives over there.

Well to take that question seriously. I do not know why the genuine asylum seekers amongst them do not apply in the EU, although the figures show that many thousands have done so, e.g. in Germany. Those that have connections to UK probably have a better chance applying in UK.

Then we can look at the 'genuine' asylum seekers which have not applied in their first safe country, which makes them either 'illegal' or at best 'dubious', so they are looking at ways, other than belatedly applying in France, to continue.

Then there are the 'economic migrants' whose only chance is the illegal routes.

I suspect that many of the less well-educated ones are not told the truth by the traffickers who take their money on false promises.

One cannot know the circumstances of the guy in the OP, but he seems to be in the illegal category for whatever reason.

Thanks (I don't often post because things can get quite confrontational sometimes, but thought it was worth passing this on (y)) - I'm afraid I don't know any more than that. I don't know how he ended up here, presumably came illegally which may (again only guessing) have weighed against his application (see below).
I know some Australians who bought a bar nearby and applied for a work visa to run it. They went through hoops for years (many years!), eventually a new person took over the paperwork and said it should have been issued from the beginning.

Couldn’t agree more Dave. We’re not rich by any means yet all of us here are the envy of these lads. Some of them are my sons age and when I see these young men desperate to better their lives I find it difficult not to imagine one of them as my Tom.

Three weeks ago we were in the terminal at Ouistreham waiting to board the ferry when the lady in a rental motorhome four behind us started shouting, some young lad had climbed onto the bike rack and under the cover, she saw something moving and pulled the cover back and the young lad legged it, as it was inside the terminal the security guys caught him and then about 20 police turned up to take him away, don't know what finally happened but he's probably still trying,

We really need to take a serious look at our benefits system! Why not say you have to work for five years to earn five years benefits. Only the severely disabled who definitely can’t work should be exempt.
