I thought Dick Turpin was dead !

All our insurance policies clearly state that any changes to the policy will incur a £20 charge, £72 is definitely a tad excessive, I would be making a very strong protest and not agreeing to paying that.

When we last moved it resulted in our Motorhome having to be parked on road as we have no off road area at all.

When I rang to update the insurance the agent put the new address on the system she said “right, we don’t provide cover on this basis so have just cancelled your policy with immediate effect”. Apart from being gob smacked by the off hand way she said it, I pointed out it left the van on road with no cover and at risk of being picked up by a passing police car with anpr.
After escalating this to a manager I was reluctantly given cover for few days so I could arrange a new policy.

It’s something to bear in mind when moving. It wasn’t the new area that caused the issue but that our vans value exceeded their limit for on road parking.

It’s another thing I’ll be checking when we next move!

I was told that there was no problem with the change of area etc. and the charge was for changing the address on the policy.
Only repeating.
If they considered things to be of greater risk etc. I could’ve understood the increase.
That’s why I felt the charge unbelievably excessive.
I think their expressions are too vague.

No problem with change of area means they allow it not that it's free. And changing the address includes any increased cost associated with the new postcode .

What did they say when you queried £72.71 for the change. Did they break dowm the charge for you ?

You need to name them, so the rest of us know
see the thread on Comfort last week on van recovery if taken ill abroad
and the replies the OP had, see the result from Comfort when several M H fun members
who were also with Comfort started ringing to check the information given to the OP
and the eventual result
If the rest of us know who the insurer is,

then we can avoid being mugged too.

It might also be helpful on posts like this, to also read about happy customers and their companies (not everyone, but just a few).

I, for example, am insured with AXA through C & MH Club, 2007 Murvi (Caravanette?), Fully Comp, parked on driveway, Max NCB (protected), + Legal Protection.

I do not know how good they are should I have an accident but I'm more than happy with the price of £220.82, slightly less than last year.

PS> C & M/H insurance promises £25 off your existing renewal quote. (Cynic that I am, I thought this would be a one-off and the next year it would rise but it has not, in fact, the premium has reduced slightly.)

Made a quick courtesy call to my motorhome insurer the other day to notify of a change of home address.
Call took approximately 3mins and after a few questions I was notified that it was not a problem and there would be no changes to the policy. All good I thought.
Then came the charge for changing the address on the paperwork ( which they don’t even post, just email ).
I realise very little is free these days and fully expected to pay around £20 or £25.
Oh how I laughed (NOT) when she said ‘that’ll 'just' be £72.71p to pay today !!!
I mean REALLY ? Just for an address change ?
I think I’ll be looking elsewhere come renewal day.
Maybe it’s just me but I truly felt I’d just been mugged !! Robbing b. . . . .

Rant over.
I would change insurers 🥲

Nope. They couldn’t get anywhere near AiB and when I mentioned their £25 off etc…..I didn’t fit in with their terms and conditions to qualify apparently. 🤷‍♂️

Although our van is parked off the road, we do not own the access bit to our house it’s parked on, therefore we have to insure it as being on the road. A number of companies do not insure for on street parking.

Please tell us who so we can avoid them.

Our MH is insured with NFU at a competitive premium, but they don't make any charge for admendments, over and above the variation in premium.
Last year we added 2 drivers at different times, and transferred our personal registration, all with no admin charges. Each time a new insurance certificate was printed and posted to us.
As an added benefit they also make no charge for monthly premiums.

Address changes are subject to higher fees if the address moved to is considered high risk. This has always been the case, eg move from a quiet out of the way place with virtually no likelihood of traffic accidents or thefts, etc to one such as Central London you will really notice the difference.

NFU were £300+ more for us than our current premium.

I tried several companies recommended by members on here, most were hundreds of pounds more expensive.🤷‍♂️

Perhaps it's just your circumstances then that makes the difference if you have tried several with the same negative outcome??

Why not stay with your present company, but saying that, we should all be willing to compare?

(I agree about the NFU, although very good, their tariffs are so high they do not need to charge extra.)

My car and motorcycles are easy enough to cover, low crime area etc. Van‘s value doesn’t require it to have a tracker, but I do have a Growler fitted, deadlocks, steering lock and more. Only difference is they class it as being parked on the road, although it is technically, it’s actually parked on my driveway access which I do not own.

Some of the companies on here won’t even entertain a vehicle parked on a road. Others quote values over £35k and they won’t cover on a road. It’s far more complex than our car and motorcycles insurances.👍

does this mean if your parked overnight on a journey i.e not on a camp site you may not be insured

aviva allow you to manage your policy online so don't charge admin fees, I added a towbar to my MH , no extra premium but £25 for admin, unfortunately aviva weren't competitive for the MH

Yes i had a brief spell of training at direct line(my abject failure with the computer sadly caused me to pack in) but i absolutely loved all the different reasons and whys and wherefore your insurance was worked out,i found it really fascinating, however when a fellow trainee said “ well if they dont know how to cut and paste ,they shouldnt be here”
i thought it was my time to bow out gracefully,i was getting left further and further behind, which was a shame cos ireally loved it
still dont know what cut and paste is
and have never used a computer 🤓
Did you live opposite the call centre, how did you get as far as training if you've never used a PC :giggle:

Exactly.Pointless post in term of helping anyone
Other than a "letting off steam rant", the threads useless without being enlightened as to whom to not give our future business to.
Don't bother with Carol Nash , or Adrian Flux if you have anything other than a bog standard van, as they will seek to double your policy price.

On street parking premiums are normally cheaper for cars because it's not immediately apparent to thieves which house has the keys in it

Totally agree.
Why are people reluctant to name and shame.
Reading other people's rants without qualification is no use to anyone.

Our car is in our garage. (y)

It's sometimes like "Oh they might sue me or throw paint at my house".If it's factual, say it. I'm all over Trustpilot
if I have a complaint and the subjects are soon responding to me looking to redress things

Your guess is as good as mine. 🤷‍♂️ However, since my policy states I’m parked on a road, that means I’m covered……outside my house anyway.👍

Strictly speaking it wasn't a courtesy call to inform them of the change of address it was a change in the conditions that the insurance policy was quoted on and as others have said quite likely a higher risk area. I do though agree that it's a bit of a lottery whether changes cause a larger or smaller increase in premiums than you expect we recently added a friend to our car insurance and had to pay............ 1p. !

Question is, if you moved to a cheaper premium area would they refund you?🤷‍♂️🤣

You've got me thinking now I think they did when we moved to Yorkshire from Leicester but it was a while ago.

Now that's a surprise! Just how many decades ago was your move???

Has anyone tried to add an admin charge when they have filled in an accident report, I wonder?? If they can, so can we?

They should refund you if the policy cost has gone down.

When we moved house 8 years ago we had a mixture of responses when advising the insurance companies. My husbands truck went up slightly, as did the motorhome but my car went down and I received a refund for the difference.
