I Have Some Remoska Questions

Thank you so much, Ejaydee and vwRob :) I didn't need to turn them. There was enough fat in them that they fried and baked at the same time! The tops were nice and brown and the bottoms were just slightly over done....but very nice :) I now officially LOVE my Remoska!!!!

Just cooked a chicken, Ham & Leek pie 35Mins as per instructions, removed foil cartouche to brown off pastry after 30 mins, it was only off for the last 5mins and I could smell it was catching on one side, but was too busy knocking up the mash & veg to go with it, but it was OK.
Can seriously recommend Aldi Gastro Premium Chicken, ham & leek, and their Steak & Ale pies. They are stuffed with meat, great pastry, I couldn't make one at home for the price.(y)

I'll let my husband know about the pies. He does all the shopping and he eats pies...I don't. We're in the UK at the moment, so he can enjoy some while we're here :)

I just bought this for my Remoska. I would have bought an original Remoska rack but the best I can find in shipping terms is 3-5 working days...too long for me, so Amazon it is :)
It's possible it may be too tall but someone in the reviews said they just cut the legs down :) I guess as long as they're sanded ultra smooth, that'll be fine :)

If you do cut it get some silicon sheet and cut it circular for the base to protect the non stick

I could never have a pressure cooker. I know it sounds stupid but I'm too scared of them.
Me too that's why my Instant pot had to go, released the steam and had beef stew explode up onto the kitchen ceiling after being scared of them since I was little, that was it!!

OMG, that's awful. I hope you weren't injured!

I'm still using a pressure cooker from about 25 years ago regularly and I've never had one explode! I even take it in the motorhome when we go away for more than a couple of weeks. Have to admit I didn't like the Pressure King Pro (poor man's version of the Instant Pot!) but that was because of the length of time it took to get to pressure.

I am using my 40+ year old Prestige Pressure cooker tonight to cook a medium sized Gammon Joint, 8 mins a Lpb from reaching temp will do it. Then lifting it out to cool while I baste it all over with Honey & Mustard, then its into The Remoska to brown off, turning half way through for about 20/25 mins.
Done it that way a few times now, will have lots of Gammon to slice up for dinner & Sarnies for a couple of days, not bad for £6 joint.(y)

These cook a treat in Ramona the Remoska. Add a few bung-it extra toppings, one on the bottom and another on the metal rack. Cover with foil until the last few minutes and swap them over to crisp both off on the top. Just gorgeous with a bit of salad and a merlot!!!

Here a little tip this Silikomart silicone cake "tin" is a perfect fit for the standard remoska...
Thanks for that - we've been using an old non stick shallow pie tin but it's now worn out and couldn't find a 8" replacement locally. Silikomart have a dedicated shop on Amazon and that model is on it. Sorted!

I find it works better if one adheres to the instructions 😄

I've used Pressure Cookers for about 50yrs.
Never had one explode or cause trouble.

With the non-electric ones, if you want to release the pressure quickly, all you have to is just, slowly put it in a sink of cold water or run cold water over it and only lift the weight when pressure has dropped (about 3mins)
With electric ones, let it cool for a while and the GENTLY release the pressure. Simples!

Simples or not it is in the shed and it's not coming back in my kitchen:ROFLMAO:

Pressure cookers terrify me since mums blew up in the kitchen 60 years ago
luv my remoska
Same thing happened to my mums pressure cooker when I was about 6 years old:cry:

Loving my air fryer/microwave too. Cooked two jacket potatoes in the microwave 5 mins each side (stab them a few times on both sides with a knife or they will explode) then cut in half and spread with butter and added sliced cheese and finished off in air fryer for 10 minutes for crispy skin and soft cheesy filling:happy:

Stay in Spain for 80+ days. Take a slow cooker( don’t use much but good for beef) 2 electric hob rings, Remoska, small RidgeMonkey. No oven or grill in van and don’t cook in van so trying to decide if I need/would use as small air fryer. I have one at home which I use fairly frequently. It’s the space they take.

I think that Pressure Cookers were a must have in most households in the 50/60's even into the 70's because our parents used to be able to buy "Cheap Cuts" of Beef, like Brisket, Stewing Steak, beef cheeks, shin of beef, neck of lamb etc which had to either be cooked for hours long & slow, or cooked in the pressure cooker in minutes.
If you wanted a decent dinner mid week, before oven ready-mades were even thought of, you needed a pressure cooker, or a slow cooker switched on before you went to work in the morning.
Dont know about you guys, but I find myself asking who the hell is eating all our beef & lamb these days? Where is it all going?
Even in large supermarkets, you will get an isle of full of Bacon, Sausages, Pork & Chicken, but you will be lucky to see a decent bit of Top Rump beef for a Sunday Roast, only small bits wrapped in shrink plastic that are not clearly marked other than "Roasting Joint" which will not only be over priced for the size, but also more likely to be very tough.
Where are all those "Cheap Cuts" that are no longer on the shelves, does no one know how to cook them anymore, have they ever had them, or just forgotten just how good and umptious these meals were.?
We don't have a decent butcher left in our area, so the only option is the fresh counter at Waitrose which is also limited and very pricy, but its the only alternative for us, there again lucky if you see many of the good old fashioned "Cheap Cuts" or even Offal.
Rant over...sorry but I miss all these things, especially in the long dark winter months.

I used to love to cook slow roast shoulder of lamb it would last us for days and finish off in a shepherds pie, but these days you can only buy a small cut🤷‍♀️

The cheap cuts probably go into ready meals and pet food these days, both of which are a shocking price for the nutritional value you get.

I'm lucky I suppose that I have the choice of 2 butchers and can get most of the meats mentioned. Gina M - I'm surprised you can't get shoulder of lamb in your supermarkets I can still get them although not regularly - it's more likely to be half shoulders which quite honestly are enough for 2 people for at least a couple of days meals.

We had a lovely breast of lamb a couple of weeks ago and I got that from a small Tesco in Canterbury city centre - it was actually the only joint they had left which wasn't chicken! I didn't want chicken as we'd already had chicken a couple of times that week. Have to say it was the tastiest joint we've had for quite a while.

I agree with you, perhaps TinaLes should change the time when shopping?
Today, nothing is cheap especially meat, but if one wants cheaper look in the freezer aisle. 🤔

Since everyone has been so kind in helping me get used to my Remoska, I thought I'd share with you the meal I cooked last week some time. I did a pork, jacket potatoes, carrots, leeks and plums and it was dellicious!!!! I cooked the pork first in the Remoska and, when it was almost done I did the Jacket potatoes in the microwave for about 10 minutes. When the pork was done, I took it out and covered it with foil to rest, while I put the potatoes in, covered them in butter and brown them off. While the potatoes were doing, I steamed the carrots and leeks in the microwave. When the potatoes were almost done, I threw in the plums and warmed them through in the butter from the potatoes. Honestly, it was amazing and so easy peasy to do!! Pics to make you jealous :roflmto: :dance2: Thank you again to everyone who helped me!!!

Looks lovely, well done.(y)
Only problem is we don't have a microwave in the van or even at home these days, hate ding meals, only miss it for starting jacket potatoes, but thats about it.
I tend to use the Remoska to do the oven bit, and a sauté pan on the hob to do the rest.
Aldi hand crimped Premium Chicken, Bacon & leek pie tonight, with mash & Veg tonight for us.(y)
