I have a solution for good Mobile Data (300G) whilst in Spain (then any zone 1 country)

Existing EE contracts do not have additional charges, until contract expires. Ours is up in summer. Currently, during pandemic, EE do no apply fair usage policy. I just had welcome texts crossing borders, and no additional charges on any limits within EU.
My phone is on an expired EE contract, they also sent me a welcome message when i entered France stating no extra charges and no cap, but the phone is only on a 5Gb contract, so not useful as a hotspot. They also gave me a 10% discount so quite happy with them for the time being.

So, as with many, I’m the type of person who just ‘needs’ ubiquitous high bandwidth WiFi always available. The challenge for many this year has been with Brexit, the type of unlimited data roaming enjoyed before, is no longer available.

There have been numerous topics on this for the last few months; with creative solutions to getting 20-30G of data, none of these work for me as I need 200-300G a month, just to get on and do whatever we went.

Anyway, my searching and searching has finally turned up what I think is perfect. I’ve been using it for two days now in Spain and all seems to be working as advertised.

In basic terms, it’s non throttled (save for signal challenges) so up to 150mb download, 300Gb per month, rolling one month commitment, it’s on Vodafone ES and less than €40 per month. Yes that’s correct, zero commitment, no topping up, 300 Gigabyte for <€40 per month!!!!

I’m using the data SIM in my Netgear router, it was a very simple set-up and registration process and they very kindly supplied me with two sims so I can use another on my next visit to Spain. They couriered to my campsite in Spain and the customer service I received and the instant replies to messages was simply fantastic.

The company is Tiekom based in Madrid. They have completed everything with me via email, from initial contact, through ordering to setup etc. https://tiekom.com/internet-at-home/data-sim/

The person I have been dealing with is Camino and she’s been absolutely fantastic, super responsive, fantastic English and made everything incredibly easy! You can email her at: sales@tiekom.com

I have no association whatsoever with this company or this person, but I’ve been genuinely impressed with the service. Please do mention me to Camino if you reach out to her, as she and Teikom have just the product and service we need in Spain and I promised that if Teikom did what they advertised, that I would recommend her to others, so the association of me to your enquiries would allow me to fulfil on that promise.

So, the final point is a cautionary one. I’ve been using this for two days now, 22Gigabytes ‘only’ so it’s still early days. I shall update after the first few weeks and months use. Im also planning on using this for three weeks in France (zone1) whilst I'm fishing on the way home, so will be another good test.

Anyway, a long post, but for several could be a very useful one as we have all been struggling to find the sort of data usage we all expect these days when travelling!
Harvey

PS - For testing purposes, we have watched several Netflix and Amazon movies in 1080HD, used a hooky Sky streaming service on my Amazon Firestick again streamed in HD (I do pay for a full sky package so I’m not really stealing any content from Sky, just using the best solution whilst travelling) and browsed content on phones and MacBooks etc.
Thanks Harvey, contacted Camino (and mentioned you) she confirmed 300GB in the countries we will be visiting over next few years, so will purchase and ge8t delivered to campsite in Spain. Also enquired about phone sim too, and she confirmed prices etc for this too. Details below if anyone interested:

Thanks Harvey. How long did they take to arrive?

Two days. If you want the service, contact Camino and let her know that I can give you one of these (my) SIMs, then she can just send me a couple more direct to the Campsite… if that works for you guys?

That's a pity. I'm in Spain now but only until Friday. Will they ship to a French address for me to use next time I'm in Spain, do you know, please?

I'm currently using a Tesco mobile unlimited sim card, i can use as much as i need in Europe for a maximum two months in every four, i have been in France for 1 week so far and have used 66.4 GB, i'm near Mont St Michel and am getting speeds of 41.9 Mbps down and 9.46 up so it's not throttled either. I'm going to be away around 2.5 months on this trip so will see how strict they are on the two months but maybe if you're using it in the UK as well they'll be okay with it, we'll see.

Edit: I'm not saying the deal you got isn't a good one, obviously if you're going to be away longer than two months it is a good solution.

Hi. How much does the Tesco unlimited SIM cost you, please? And, do they have a clause that says the majority of use must be in the UK, please? Thank you so much :)

I’ve no idea… Camino has just sent me four more SIMs and they arrived next day. Get in contact tomorrow and ask her? She offers to send me some to the UK, so she may be able to send to France too…?

Thank you so much. I'll see if she'll be as kind to me :)

There are three options, rolling 30 day contract £35, 1 year contract £30 and 2 year contract £25, all per month of course, you can use as much data as you need for no more then two months in every four whilst roaming, they expect you to use it in the UK but I didn't see any small print to say that the majority of use had to be in the UK, i told the guy exactly how i wanted to use it and he confirmed it would be suitable. It must be set up in the UK before you travel, i set up mine two days before. Make sure when you set it up to use the Tesco mobile apn as it may default to O2 which won't connect. I'm currently in France and it's performing well.

That's great! Thank you so much. I'll look into it next time I'm over there :)

Just been on the tesco mobile website and the unlimited 30 day rolling contract is no longer showing, you maybe able to get it in store.

I wasn't aware of it either until I went into the store and talked to an adviser who explained all the options, i did sign up to the 30 day option just incase they change the roaming policy.

Boy, that Tiekom data sim sounds a great deal. Shame you need to activate it in Spain. I'm a big data user too and as an Australian tourist very hard to get a decent sim in the UK, or one that can be used in France. Intending to do 4 months this northern summer.

It really is a cracking deal. Up to 40+ Gigabytes used by us now and it’s perfect and absolutely as expected. 👍🏻

Thanks for all this information, we were intending to use NOS in Portugal but being able to use this in multiple countries makes it more appealing.

I use Hits mobile here in Spain...23gb per month is enough....@jumartoo has her own provider (not me this time)
I contacted Hits yesterday and told them I'm in the market for a different offer....they increased my Data to 50gb at the same price...just how good is that..🥳👍🇪🇦

Check out these no commitment, SIM only deals for France Broken Link Removed :)

Am with EE sim only. Asked for my pac code with the intention of going to O2 which allows roaming with a 25G data cap.
So EE then rings me up and when I tell them the reason I am leaving they offer me an unlimited data deal and add benefits which include free roaming while in the EU. It gets better …. By putting my partners phone on a family deal we put her on a 6G for £6 a month saving us £16 a month and I can gift her 100G a month AND she gets the same roaming benefit.
I have been with EE for some time which maybe helped, but if you have an out of contract EE sim maybe worth a go , need to get through to the team that tries to retain business .

Good customer services, although it needs you wanting to leave get the offer! Sounds good if that’s what you need, as in 25G of data roaming. My original post was focused on high data users when travelling for extended periods, so slightly different use cases…

I would have had 25 with o2. No limit with this deal. So way cheaper than the Spanish deal

Fabulous if it is indeed the case, but I would check the main contract T’s and C’s if I were you! I would imagine that you’ve been ‘sold’ to rather than them having the ability to remove all the roaming restrictions.

Haven’t been sold anything , my costs are lower than before . This is a link to the benefit which states you can use your minutes and data as if at home . You can pay 10 a month to add this which would still be cheaper than an extra sim or in my case it was included. https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/offers-and-services/passes/what-is-the-roam-abroad-pass

You would be surprised how easy it is to get and use a VPN. They aren't dear and you don't have to pay long subscriptions. NordVPN is only £8.95 for a month. https://nordvpn.com/pricing/
Some good examples here: https://www.comparitech.com/blog/vpn-privacy/watch-uk-tv-abroad-vpn/
Expats have been using them for years.
Nord is goo (I have it) but I'm finding I have to frequently turn it off to access sites where they are checking if a VPN is used. Its ok to turn it back on again once access. Is it just me?

Yes, I asked for PAC to move from EE and they rang me to offer better deal and also EU roaming with no extra charge.

I’m not sure I understand completely the deal, but it sounds VERY good!

Please confirm the deal you have as it may be just what I need…. you’ve unlimited data (no fair usage caps), unlimited data when roaming (no fair usage caps) in all Zone 1, no time restrictions on consecutive months you can use that data (?) and no throttles or restrictions on download limits?

Thanks in advance!

Look at Free Mobile in France. You can buy the SIM in a 'tabac'. We have 210GB pm in France and 25GB pm in the rest of Europe for €20pm (without a contract)

Would be ideal for us & able to get rid of the satellite wifi used in the house. that is if we could get a vodaphone signal here without having to walk 30m to the road , go up on the roof or to the bottom of the back garden.:giggle:

So do we but as above, they use the vodaphone supply & since the earthquake in 2011 when they lost & never replaced a mast this side of Lorca we have no internal phone signal at home.

Out yesterday in Lorca I even bought a 3gb phone sim from digi as recommended by Bolti which uses movistar. Another that fails to work indoors.

Sounds like the kind of problem which could be resolved with a quality outdoor roof mounted directional antenna and a nice mobile router (Netgear or similar) install.
