I have a REALLY annoying noise

Hmm that is odd. I have it running on my phone, computer(s) and laptop and don't get any noises...

I( have had for probably 20 years without issue..This suddenly started several weeks ago

Tell me about it.. No idea what it was doing (maybe chat alert as when I do open it I find a shed load 'Linda from Kansas would like to chat' type things.. I just delete them 'en-masse'

Ahh, I have it set to not allow that kind of thing.

People can't message me unless they are in my contact list AND I am not listed in the directory.

So unless I tell someone my contact name in skype they cannot message me.

Great to read through the entire thread and find out that you have solved the issue (with a little help of your friends!).

I use Apple tech, so initially I thought this would not be a problem I may get, when I read you were on Windows, but Skype of course is multi platform so possibly I could have been affected similarly. As I haven't used Skype for many years (now use Zoom), I have uninstalled it.

Well done all, but particularly you Jaws, for your persistence and dogged determination in winkling out the issue.

I am a great believer in keeping folks in on something that I have a problem with and have asked for help with

Too many times you see some one ask for assistance and then we here no more !!!
If people are kind enough to devote their time to someone else's problem the least we can do is keep them in the loop
