I can't believe this

Scarborough council doing something for motorhomers
We must have a new tourism portfolio holder

That's great .
Our council (West Suffolk) has also introduced MH spaces in Bury st Edmunds (Ram Meadow car park) where you can park overnight for 2 pounds. I think they realise the huge revenue that MH folk bring into the towns these days.

It’s been posted on the Helmsley FB page along with the same photo. Strange as I thought Scarborough was dead against motorhomes.

As a former resident I recall big issues around the sewage pipes emptying into the north bay (not far from where the alleged facilities are). The “Sons of Neptune” - organised by Freddie Drabble (local solicitor and others) campaigned for years around stopping this. So emptying sewage into the sea (it’s probably happened in the past from marine drive stopovers) will be emotive locally. Perhaps hence the new regime?

Come on there must be someone in Scarborough that can have a look.
Yes I thought it would have been verified or not by now, Scarborough resident or a visitor in their van.
There seems to be loads on Farcebook and other sites saying it’s true but nothing seems definitive.

We actually drove round the Marine Drive two weeks ago. Was looking at the sea though so didn’t spot it. There was a lot of vans though. As others have said, some parked sideways over three or four bays. That’s a lot of parking tickets!!!

If this is correct pappajohn Scarborough could lead the way forward sumthing positive from one of the biggest sea side towns.
With restrictions on how long you can stay to stop the blue badg bregade and FLT staying for months a step forward
Bill

It's been verified on several fb groups including the campra one with a video of the whole thing. It's real.
Only thing I will say that must have drugged the planning committee but good news
Bill

Certain "travellers" will be on there like a shot soon - and won't bother paying. They will sit tight and wait for the 6 months to pass before they are evicted. You'll see.

As for the £9 for overnight PARKING.
All council carparks are free between 6pm and 9am (12am on Sundays) including the marine drive.
There is still a current 'no sleeping' order in effect.
The £9 fee is for coach's where spaces are provided, such as the sealife center

I wouldn't drive to anywhere I couldn't book

Stopped off in skipton , drove to the MH car park , all the spaces were full and it looked like a traveler camp so not for me , I'd sooner pay for a site.

The thing, some places we have been in Germany, Stellplatze have been full, lots of old vans etc

I wonder if there are German Motorhomers complaining and locals wanting them shut.

The Germans we know don’t, it’s just the way of life and motorhomes are accepted and bring some revenue into the place.

They would be better making the parking spots bigger, allowing overnighting and charging for it, £10 or something.

Have an attendant checking making sure people have paid. People are parking anyway overnight so they may well as charge a bit for it.

But it’s good news though this I’m all for it.

It looks to be a very sensible building easy to erect, no fancy stuff, good on them.
Are the toilets free?

The car parking spaces are very short.

In pic two back end is sticking out

[I meant the car - not the lady passenger]
Nice to see that one car is parked ‘correctly’ even if it’s a bit long - the others in the first photo certainly aren’t…….. o_O

Same in France but a lot of spaces in places you'd want to stop , not a 3 spaces in a car park in skipton where you'll probably get gangs of youths rocking the van at 2am
