Hymer Dynamic Line Water Ingress Issues

Just checked ours. Completely dry, both in garage and wardrobe under bed (fingers crossed).
Ours is a 2018 model.
I think the lady on facebook with the 444dl, said that hers was wet after standing on the drive, drained-down. So, in her case, that would appear to rule out internal water system leaks and possibly leaks through the wheel arch while driving (but what do I know?)
I'd reiterate @Lenny HB 's comment about the door seal. On the DL it appears to be much better than the seal on our previous SL.
Water getting in at a higher point and finding its way down to the garage looks to be a possibility worth investigating.
Hope you find the cause, soon. If you're staying in Spain, I'd go to a Spanish Hymer dealer and get them to have a look.

So the gutter was leaking originally then which caused all the problem, I must say I also wouldn't have looked there either. They must have found it by seeing that sealant was missing in that area?
Kind of.

The long strip that you can see on the picture/is on the side of most A class Hymers is a trim piece only. Behind that is sealant that sits between the roof and side panel. This sealant has to be applied in one long, uninterrupted flow on the production line. What happened on mine was that roughly where indicated, the sealant gun seemed to have “spluttered” and there was a gap in the sealant. As the visible strip is only a trim piece (I.e not water tight seal and not designed to be) water was getting in behind the trim piece and finding its way into the gap in the sealant and running through the wall innards, the lowest point of which was the garage so that’s where the water appeared.

It took them a day to find the issue, and they had to remove the trim piece to see the fault.

It was quite a big warranty job to fix too, they had the van for 2 weeks as they had to dig out all the sealant, get the sealant from the factory, put it in, let it cure (I think this was 48 hours) test and so on.

The guys at Travelworld said it was an unusual problem but not unheard of.

Nice one Millie that could explain the water in the garage, but the damp panels in the alcove which is about 5 inches above the garage floor? Surely there cannot be two issues here! Worryingly the base of the alcove is the underfloor of the van, if this is affected then it would be a major issue.
Don’t know Stewart..I suppose I was just trying to suggest that the ingress could be a long way from where the damage is evident. I’m sure the dealer will be able to sort out the problem. Hope it all gets resolved (y).

Oh, meant to say that the repair was done in January this year and the garage has been completely dry since...

Great stuff, the reason I said gutter is that I am only used to the older Hymers and the trim strip you mention is a gutter on both Hymers we have owned, 2006 and 2004.

3 Owners of 2017 vans so far with an identical problem, design fault?

We have very heavy constant rain here in Roses and it’s forecast all day, probably be tomorrow before I can check the garage floor for wetness bellabee and satisfy my curiosity.
No Hymer dealers in the immediate area.

Stewart, could you not just sit in the garage for a few minutes whilst its chucking it down.

Mines a 2016 B544 and no moisture problems. From new I fitted Fiamma self adhesive guttering to prevent black streaks which has been very successful and it also protects the roof line joint from run off from the roof which is now concentrated in the four corners.

Aint it funny that both Hymers we have had, where the horizontal trim strip is we have had gutters designed in by Hymer, so they change the design and then owners have to fit their own, a great forward step that is?

Just been out and checked ours no sign of damp at all no marks on underfloor either I will keep an eye on it and report back.(y)(y)

Yes but I fitted mine to stop black streaks but by the look of things it has other benefits (y)

Caroline we have been away since August we took our tent, windbreak and mats up yesterday in view of forecast, garage is full.

Good idea of yours Larry but I just wish they wouldn't keep taking out good design and replacing with inferior design though.
It was a great idea by Hymer to integrate the gutters in, most of the other top end A class manufacturers, Niesmann, Concorde etc never had gutters built in and hence the reason why you saw lots of second hand Niesmanns for example with after fit gutter strips, often poorly done I hasten to add.

I don’t suppose the window seals are leaking in the bedroom as that is nearly directly above problem?(n)

If it is a batch problem, is it just a batch of RHD vans that are affected? Hymer tend to only build one or two batches of RHD vans a year that is why delivery is always extended on RHD.

Ours is LHD build date Feb 2017.

Another design issue is the perfectly flat roof that Hymer and some others produce allowing water to pool on the roof if parked level. The RVs I owned had a slight convex to the roof so that however parked water always runs off.

Ours is LHD, too. It'd be interesting to find out the build dates of the affected vans.
I thought yours was Feb 2016 build, Lenny? You seem to have had it ages longer than we've had ours.
We bought ours Sept 2017. From memory it was built in April 2017.

Picked it up on 13th March last year, registered in April.
One thing I noticed yesterday it appears to be eating tyres. I thought the fronts looked like they were getting a bit low measured them this morning front 5mm, rear 5.5mm. I've only done 12,000 miles looks like new tyres all round at around 20k which will be only less than 2½ years use.

Cracking idea Larry was looking at fitting similar above the sliding window, Hymer fit an aluminium gutter along roof edge above passenger door but being a rh drive opening window in the rain to get up onto blocks does invite a waterfall through it. Would also be advantageous above the garage doors.

I have left the factory fitted piece on the roof , but the guttering is very effective preventing black streaks , also did the back panel which just shows on photo.
Bought mine from Johns Cross and you will need warm conditions to apply and a little extra adhesive to prevent ends curling.

Thanks Larry what adhesive is needed.

The way I did it....

I first warmed the guttering to make it flexible then cleaned the area where it was to be attached to with thinners then used masking tape as a guide along the length of the van to get a straight line to work to . Once applied I removed half an inch of the self adhesive backing at each end and used a strong contact adhesive (bostic or similar) and taped the ends in place until firmly stuck.
The soft plastic extrusion will readily curl at the ends and I found the adhesive backing not strong enough at the ends.

Good luck.

Is the flat roof a new thing as well, never really noticed water sitting on our roofs when we had the Hymers?

Our previous Hymer was a 2003 B544 and the roof was absolutely flat on that and if parked up perfectly level water would pool around the main roof vent.
It is the same on my 2016 B544.
A pity as a degree of convex would prevent that.

@Stewart J , How long are planning on staying in Spain for? Would a trip to Bad Waldsee be a possibility? It's not a bad drive from Roses. We've done it in the past, with our previous van and the south of Germany is worth the trip, in its own right.
You could email your photos to them and ask for an appointment. servicecenter@hymer.com
Tel +49 (0) 7524999116
They do speak English, and you can stay on their aire while they do the work.
It's 3 days easy drive from Bad Waldsee to Calais, but possible in 2 days.
