If you read back on this thread you will see there are quite a few of us and this problem is not recent, Hymer will not do a recall which as discussed previously is a total sham however that’s where it is and it seems we have to soak it up and get our own replacements.I have joined the club , in my opinion a loom that fails after four years is not fit for purpose . I am sure that if this had happened on a car it would have been a manufacturers recall . Just waiting now to have two looms replaced. I would be very interested to know how many people have had this problem
I would be interested to know if Hymer have eventually had new better quality looms made. The ones fitted OEM are utter rubbish. That is why I have a small scale production line making what Hymer should have fitted originally. Thicker better quality wires and reinforced at the stress points, with OEM quality plugsI have joined the club , in my opinion a loom that fails after four years is not fit for purpose . I found it difficult but managed to get a pair of grips on to it and eased out the plug it’s not the easiest place to get at is itTheBig1 Lenny HB anyone? - can you please share the secret technique for removing the 8 pin connector from that aluminium electronic square on the left side as you look through the bonnet? Try as I might it’s a bit stubborn and there’s not much room for my fat fingers in there. Thanks in advance of any tips.
Thanks, did you use the grips to release a clip on the blind side or just squeeze and pull?I found it difficult but managed to get a pair of grips on to it and eased out the plug it’s not the easiest place to get at is it
Thanks Lenny, that screwdriver approach was exactly what has just worked for me.I broke the clip on one of mine getting it off.
I think you need to slide a small screwdriver down the side of the latch to release it.
After removing the plugs I filed the pips off of the ballast unit so I didn't have the same problem again.
Even with no latch with the pips removed and spaying with silicone they are still a pig to remove.
The worst bit is getting in there to reach them it’s a right pain in the armThe trick is to push it IN, release the clip then pull out with these plugs
Definitely, just glad extraction of the failing loom is now complete. The worst bit is getting in there to reach them it’s a right pain in the arm
The MOT guy at AM has a thing about lights, when I had my Airbag ECU changed I had them do the MOT and he failed it on the headlamp beam.A further update to these dammed headlights our van has failed MOT on headlights not dipping to requirements of UK this is the second year this has happened and Adams Morey managed to get the baffles that provide a flat beam to stay in place for MOT, however have said I need to replace them before the next one.
Having looked at the price of replacements.
Good Morning Alan,
Please see details below, we don’t carry these items in stock.
2529555 – left headlamp LHD = £1047.06 – 3-4 weeks ETA for delivery (approx.)
2529558 – right headlamp LHD = £1047.06 – Out of stock, current lead time estimated at around 19 weeks.
Delivery £30.00
I am looking at ways to make a permanent fix for the baffles the have glued them before but this does not provide a good result and with the state of our roads in the UK and in Portugal they just work loose.
Any suggestions gratefully received with thanks
Hi Lenny HB I have been told by the technician at travel world that the LHD headlights are not compliant with UK mot and if I decided to purchase I should buy RHD lights. The MOT guy at AM has a thing about lights, when I had my Airbag ECU changed I had them do the MOT and he failed it on the headlamp beam.
He took the lamp out and couldn't do much with it but said it just about passed now, charged me an hours labour.
Took it to my usual place last year passed without comment. The beam patten is rubbish on dip mine have always been like it. First time I took the van for a MOT after it passed I asked what the headlamp beam was like, he said it was a bit out but I'm more worried about safety items.
Don't wast your money on new headlamps they won't be any better, have a trip to Sussex and take it to my MOT man.
Looks like Carthago may be using a similar Hella unit now on the smaller vans I should find out in the next couple of weeks.
The beam is much better with LED bulbs.Hi Lenny HB I have been told by the technician at travel world that the LHD headlights are not compliant with UK mot and if I decided to purchase I should buy RHD lights.
My thoughts are like you I’ll just go to to a different garage that I used last year. But I will try an do something with them before I go next mot. That flat dip plate is rubbish it like an after thought that does not fit properly and just got a slight bump of light above the line of flat dip
What bulbs have fitted have you a link pleaseThe beam is much better with LED bulbs
Katur H7 LED from Amazon, sorry my link is out of dateWhat bulbs have fitted have you a link please
Hi Alan, if the baffles can be accessed I would consider rebonding with sikaflex or puraflex40 both give vibration resistance and waterproof. Only needs a bead down each side. And if still in place as set by the garage should seal well.Hi Lenny HB I have been told by the technician at travel world that the LHD headlights are not compliant with UK mot and if I decided to purchase I should buy RHD lights.

Thanks TheBig1 for that just for information I have recieved a price from Durrwang in Dortmund for a pair of RHD headlights collection only as they tell me since the Big B it is to difficult and expensive to send spares to the UK.Hi Alan, if the baffles can be accessed I would consider rebonding with sikaflex or puraflex40 both give vibration resistance and waterproof. Many headlights are sealed with the equivalent of sikaflex from the factory for this reason
I remember a couple of years ago you paid £275 for a rear light I picked one up in Germany for €135.Durrwang :€926.50 per light = £790 approx making a saving of around £400 on UK prices
Travel world: £1047.06 + £30 delivery
Yes that’s correct we are truly being charged a lot extra for goods and spares from the EU it’s been made so difficult.I remember a couple of years ago you paid £275 for a rear light I picked one up in Germany for €135.
