Hymer - A confession - Its got Damp

Good job you took it to the 2nd guy the first one obviously doesn't understand Hymer construction - there aren't battens that can swell, Hymer use the PUAL system for construction.
My thoughts also Lenny. :(

@h1ghway1, the reason I put you on to Peter Curry, is with the retirement of Peter Hambilton last winter, that must put Peter Curry at the top of the scale now, as possibly the best independent Hymer engineer in Britain. It is he I would be seeking Hymer related repair advice from, should I need it. ;)

You have chosen wisely. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Got the van back yesterday and really pleased with result.. those boys worked hard this week considering how hot it was. The bill came in under the estimate as the job went well..
A really nice bunch of guys .. I'll be back as they are Hymer specialists.

There is a quick and dirty fix far easier than doing it properly. Clean out the joint and find a length of 2x1 the length of the seam. Push in plenty of sikaflex all down the seam. Immediately before it sets screw the length of wood down the join clamping it shut. Leave to cure for 24 hours then remove the wood, clean off excess sikaflex and fill screw holes
Good idea but why not park it near a wall and brace it with lengths of timber between the wall and the van pushing a length of 2x1 against the joint. Removing the need for screws.

Any report on what they did, maybe interesting to others.

Will ask about pics.. they removed half the bathroom... then drilled into the aluminium post to tie both sides in.. sorry its a bit brief .. I was going to ask for pics but as its been hotter than hell this week i thought they had enough to contend with..
I'm going back in a couple of weeks and I'll see if they took pics and try and flesh out what they did.
