SOLD Hymer 534 £14000.

By suggesting that based on the number plate that the advertised vehicle may not be genuine

Maybe you should offer an apology for your mistake ?
I made a mistake and I did ask for clarification, that is not negative, just a mistake and I will happily apologise to the op for it.

Now what about the tyre dates???

D.

That’s not an apology though
Maybe the OP has put you on ignore ?

Oh Please!!! I'm out! I hope you sell your motorhome quickly and everyone is happy but I'm afraid I won't bother passing the details on.

D.

Certainly OP would be better spending £350 or thereabouts and get the timing belt done - belt is well overdue and could break/slip tooth at anytime - really depends on whether you can afford a new engine or not

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. I appear to have got the numbers mixed up, it happens.
My apologies to the op but I'd still like the dates of the tyres please.

Happens to us all when we are old,,BUSBY:D2:D2

Blimey not wanting to sell motorhome quickly, simply looking around and maybe upgrade downgrade or simply do something completely different like purchase a boat in France and cruise back, or stick deposit on space travel trip.
Dave is in the trade and rightfully raised points of interest to us all. I am sure we are all carefull before making rash decisions as i should be (take a few deep breaths and respond to listed post in a few days) he is representing somebody else`s interest. Now taking on board timing belt and tyres 20,000 odd thousand miles i thought would be okay for a belt, and as tyres i have always took a coin to measure tread depth, but as raised i will inform potential buyers stronger than usual of these issues, not wanting to be classed as a scammer cheat or dishonest in anyway. I can appreciate not many people know of me. Now i am sure anyone looking at the van will pick up other issues and rightly point them out.
This raises the question of how do you price a motorhome ?. do i organise new tyres and belt change, raise the price and re advertise or haggle. People will want as much info as possible as they may have to travel great distances for their dream purchase.
Thanking everybody for your thoughts and contribution in this posting.

I would have the cam-belt replaced, it is well overdue by age, not miles, and if required four new tyres.

Can you imagine what would happen if it goes bang during a test drive.

This will reassure any potential buyer.

add the cost of doing this to asking price..

Dave was correct to ask about both these matters.. I would have done the same..

That's just my view..

It’s hard selling your never going to please everyone. I do not enjoy buying or selling at all, yet some love it. Good luck.

Do people really believe when buying a 23 year old motorhome they would not have to spend some money on it. I never bought one yet that I didn't have to spend at least a grand on it. I would far prefer to buy at the right price and do a full service, including cam belt as at least I would then know it was done. I bought a van a few years ago with the assurance it had just had a cambelt fitted, it transpired the cam was chain driven .

I would prefer to buy a vehicle at a cheaper price knowing that the cam belt needs changing. I could then get the work done by someone I know and trust, and also have the benefit of any claim if it should fail soon after changing.

yes.. I said it was only my view,

when I was buying it was the first thing I asked for, service history and cam belt done or not.. and if told it had been done asked for proof with a invoice and VAT receipt ..

if not done and was overdue, (as yours is) I wasn't interested in looking further. My reasoning was if they hadn't done per service schedule, what else had been neglected .

buyers are a fickle lot and if they can find fault will knock down the price , even if it is already rock bottom..

also as I said..

Can you imagine what would happen if it goes bang during a test drive.

As long as the warranty is transferable to the new owner

or buy a vehicle with a new cam belt, but the cheapskates hadn't renewed the tensioners. No comeback as adverty only said new cambelt fitted. (car not motorhome and fortunately a Ford) So I would be happy with one needing a new cam belt so long as everything else was what I wanted.

Garage work is guaranteed ( Think it is about 1 year ) for cambelt replacement against faulty workmanship - as long as you have receipt is what i mean so they fit kits then their work has to be done properly been down that road and they had to redo the job - over a year up to 2yrs manufacturer - gates is 2 yrs i believe provided job done properly in 1st place

This was timing belt 8 months after garage doing job - they failed to tighten tensioner pulley and the nut fell off - heard it bounce - saw this ended up on recovery lorry - garage had to sort due poor workmanship - new belt kit and belt cover

That's not the timing belt, it's the auxiliary belt which drives things like alternator, power steering etc. The timing belt is inside the black plastic cover at the top of your photos.

Timing belt has cut through the plastic housing that is timing belt just below the upper nut the tensioner pulley nut came off

Try and zoom in on 3rd photo it is the timing belt which has started to cut through plastic cover due to nut falling off tensioner pulley

I can’t believe this thread.

I would ask @Jim to let you start another without all the negative shit.

It’s a lovely van, at a good price.

If it needs tyre changes or cam belt replacement at some point, so bloody what?

Buy it or not.

My apologies, I didn't see that detail in the photos initially.

I have to agree Chris. The van is a very desirable model at the right price. As a matter of fact there is profit in it. Try and find another 534 at that price, even in Germany.

I agree Chris, I have also seen this Hymer and it's lovely condition for it's age, so it wants some money spent on it  but that's what you negotiate on once you have viewed it. :)
Everyone knows that the value of anything is what someone is prepared to pay for it. (y)

@B-well We sold ours on gumtree Ramon, people that want to buy come and view, you bypass the keyboard warrior's, good luck with the sale. (y) Bob.

I agree, I certainly wouldn't put anything up for sale on this site.

Think it's shocking how your thread has gone with this.

It's a cheap van at that price going by what's out there on eBay.

I'd also ask @Jim if he can delete all the comments and start your add again.

It looks clean enough for the price and id agree with others I'd prefer to buy one cheaper and do what needs doing myself.

This is 2 years older and twice the mileage, then you have to fetch it from Germany. As I said before, a very desirable model.
