It's a wider question than just France. And applies to the UK, too, though we're likely to be more aware of local and frequented ones.
It's a scene that is becoming more widespread, changing rapidly, locally, and is a function of your vehicle's age, engine, weight, tyres, etc. It doesn't help that for a given city, it can be tedious to work out no-go areas and routing around them.
