How much!!!!!!8

No

What £168.00 perhour 8jobs a day £1344 a day is Reasonable sorry mate your on a different planet to me
I bet the guy wishes he made that , in truth he probably only services 4 or 5 per day . And travels between those appointments.

Taking this back to the original OP's question...on average ...£75ph labour plus parts . Deal locally and get your job done . (y);)

We get a boiler service at the same time as a friend who liver close charges £65 each
Have to get professional serviced as under warranty but would do it as cheaper than a new boiler every few years and at least we know it’s safe

I wonder how much a new house would cost to build when the old 1 is blown up because you didn't want to pay 84 quid to have a gas appliance properly serviced

Many independent gas engineers try and stay below the VAT threshold by not supplying parts.
Find one and save 20% but make sure you see his Gas-safe card and get a gas cert (y)

That reminds me of someone posting a while back of waiting in for a service & time was "between 8am & 10pm. " bloke arrived around 7pm & said he still had 3 jobs to do that day.

Just had a gas check on my house boiler and cooker £84.00 for 30 mins Now That’s extracting the Urine
Remember, it's not the time it takes to do the job......
It's the time it takes to learn HOW to do the job.......
In my case...4 years...

I don't think that's too unreasonable, the fitter will need to keep up with all his safety certificates, training and public liability insurance plus his vehicle...I think you've got a good deal...speaking from a man that knows🤣

The dealership I use charges approx £109+vat p/h. I'm booked in to have the hab door lock replaced on my 2021 AS Bourton. I thought it would be under warranty but it's only covered during year one.

We service gas fires - £70 +VAT - £84

With travelling we can do at most 6 a day.

We employ a gas engineer, vehicle and materials and pay for gas safety cert.

You would be surprised how many call for a service thinking that it includes repairing faults.

Just this week 2 calls for services on fires over 8 years old and never been serviced.

Services don't really pay but we feel we have to service fires that we sell.

If you don't want to pay don't have your appliances serviced - or safety checked...then don't..... simple (y)
im retired from the heating game now but when someone asked for a service i always offered a date in two weeks amazed how many then said cant you do it sooner as we have no heating which i would then turn into a emergency call out

They are off their heads on something some tradespeople, I had a full house re wire as you can imagine the invoice was shocking but no surprise as I was well informed, then two months later I arranged to change a temporarily fitted switch which he fitted for the correct one, one off his people came over and it took less then 10 minutes, the invoice was for 78 pounds, I told him that it wasn’t going to happen, considering what I already paid to him I was happy to pay for his time, not for the imaginary “ call out fee”😡😡😡

A qualified mechanic earns about £20/hr so costs about £40/hr - where does the other £100+ go 🤷

Was having a conversation with a dealer where I bought my new to me PVC.

I was thinking about having a couple of jobs done on the van. So I asked how much , he stated the hourly rate was ********* plus cost of any parts fitted.

£120 per hour. So I decided not to have anything done and will look elsewhere. How much do you get charged an hour at your local dealers?

Colyboy
£60-70 I would have thought. Unless you are in Spain, then it would be £40-50.

Mate had a load of work done on his van in Spain recently. Needed quite a few parts sourcing as well , all in 10 hours labour but only at €55 euros an hour.

Our local commercial dealer charges £115 per hour, which I'm happy to pay as they take half the time of most garages to get things done, and I know they are done correctly.

supporting wages ( reception etc ) overheads, leases , equipment maintenance , energy.... to name just a few.
But that all comes from the mechanic's overheads so still nowhere near an extra £100+/hr.

But it’s not 30mins is it, it will be at least an hour of the guys time possibly more plus fuel to get to you, insurance, cost of tools, his tax etc etc etc. plus his gas safe registration.

I'm not sure where about you are but maybe come to Guernsey, a qualified mechanic will be on somewhere between £30 to £45/hr
Add in the overheads of running a business with commercial rents, insurances, heating, lighting, etc, and you will understand where the labour costs come from.

Just list all the stuff that’s needed for that mechanic to do an hours work! Don’t forget NI, pensions, holiday pay, vat, energy costs, business rates, premises rental / maintenance…
Oh and profit margin.
I could go on.

there are significant costs attached to providing a service that are not immediately obvious.

when you consider that includes travelling time and fuel etc to your home I dont think that that, is excessive.

Phill D, at that price, he must be travelling down to Plymouth from Scotland.............and that cover's the fuel, I guess!!

Billy's Garage.
£10 for an hour or two or maybe three! Depending on how many times I have to stop for a fag!. No VAT. And I've got my own spanners. And a trolly jack with pumpy-up handle.
"How much do I owe you Billy?"
"Oh, just call it a slab of Guinness and a slice of the wifes homemade cake. Jobs a good 'un" :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

The man who looks after Bertie for me just put his hourly up from £65 to £75 p/h.
To be honest i would happily pay double that as to find a Fitter/mechanic/spanner monkey as knowledgeable as this man on E-Types would be nigh impossible.
Thank you Wayne.

So mechanics are on £80k a year?

Heat lighting, tools training, insurance support staff such as the receptionist IT and the list goes on.

These guys were excellent when I needed my wiper motor replaced, just this year, near Pamplona. They fitted the motor as part of their diagnosis of the fault, and said they wouldn't have charged me for the motor if it wasn't the motor that was the fault. Great service at a fraction of UK costs.
