We downsized to a PVC , just drive to where we want to go or get close and walk. We do have eBikes too if we want to leave the van on pitch , batteries left locked on the bikes, just take the keys 😉, the same the lock goes through batteries handles as well as frame .

We have reasonable expensive e-bikes, the batteries would have to be smashed off to remove them probably rendering them useless. Also use grade one security wire through the bikes to immovable object. Secure in a public place!

Good morning to you all. We are new to all this so trying to find our feet so hopfully learn from your replies ;). The obvious method would be electric bikes none of us are getting any yonger so any extra help is always welcome. The big minus with electric bikes is you end up carrying the batteries for the day when you park up on them, they are not light items !! We have seen people towing small cars that gives you a great opportunity to venture away from site and take more in. Motorbikes/scooters also which is a route we are concidering at the moment but need to know my facts first. Or have i got it wrong you dont need any of the above ? I just want the freedom to be able to head off somewhere off site, especially as we want to start going over to Europe this year. Really want to hear your experiences and see how you manage when away ? TIA
We have electric bikes and find we can get almost anywhere with them... no worries about parking like a car, and if you want a couple of beers then you don't have to worry about driving. Not sure what you mean about carrying the batteries around as they stay locked on the bikes. Need a decent lock though as the bikes are quite desirable

Hi,
We Walk, - a few miles or if nice country side close by.
E-Bike, - up to about 20 miles if good cycle paths or quite rads.
Motorbike. - up to about 30miles away.

Enjoy whatever floats your boat.

Depends where we're staying. In the UK if near shops, restaurants etc we'll walk or use buses. Sometimes when we're in the UK we'll take a PCX 125 scooter on a towball carrier.

We stay on aires in France and they are always near to towns/villages so just walk.

We have a large dog so walk or bus. Or if that’s not an option we just drive the van.
Ours is 7m so not huge. Not had a problem yet, but then we don’t usually bother with big towns and cities.

I use my electric bike & hubby uses his road bike - his idea of a bike ride is cycling about 100K so a trip into town/village is nothing for him on an ordinary cycle!
Like others I never remove my battery just put the bike lock cable through it & the helmet etc...

It’s not a Europe problem as the places to stay are where the points of interest are. In the uk they don’t like motorhomes, want you out of site, and to travel (so you can pay) to points of interest.

Have never removed an ebike battery when parked up. I think all lock into the frame so reasonably secure, more likely the entire bike would be « borrowed ».

Overall i see most people using bikes and e-bikes, a few with cars but not too many.
Ebikes are more likely to be stolen if you leave the battery in situ.

Agree but willing to take the risk vs carrying the battery around. Usually when we lock up the bikes there’s 20-50 others bikes around, many are e-bikes and nearly all with batteries in.

Most of the time any thief won’t know if the battery is in or not and the bike will already be gone, albeit being ridden away more slowly😂 but still gone.

Probably less crime in Switzerland. Here there’s been lots of videos of thieves with battery grinders cutting locks off while people file them with their phones.

Hi we use e bikes and depending on town , sometimes take batteries off or put them near when your having lunch , for longer journeys we have a Honda grom 125 cc small but amazing, kyack , or bus , train , walk depending on the day ,,

Anything up to 4 miles we walk if possible. For longer journeys we have folding cycles (Dahon Hit city bikes or Montague folding MTBs for some light off road stuff.0. For longer journeys and days out we have a 300cc Honda motorbike...a CB300R which is brilliant as it has enough grunt for two up days out with some luggage yet it only weighs 148 Kg wet and it fits in our garage.

Don’t forget that Google maps has a great feature when you use it for directions. You can select the ‘public transport‘ icon and it will give you walking directions to your nearest bus/tram/train stop as well as the departure time and number of stops you need to travel.

A very impressive feature of this is that for the ‘walking’ part you can select ‘live view’ and if you hold your phone up so that it can see, via its camera, what is in front of you it will flash big blue arrows up telling you which way to walk/turn. I used this for the first time on our current trip and was very impressed with it.

Wasn’t aware of that feature, really useful. Thanks Bigtwin

Walk we often do over 20 miles if we are out and about, an example when we stayed at the city kamp in Strasbourg we walked across the city to the EU buildings it’s a great way to explore and keep fit.

We cycle (pedal power), walk, bus or taxi. Usually choose sites that are within easy transport distance of the things we like to do.

We have a 6m PVC and have never yet been unable to find a parking place with easy walking distance. We do regularly walk from sites but tend to just take the van out every day.

We had dogs - so we just made sure that any sites we went to were accessible to towns on foot……. (y)
Us too and carry a dog carrier so we can use buses and trams in many European places.
