How do you get around when on site ?

We’ve found lots of UK campsites have the nearest easily walkable public transport stop location indicated.

Usually though we’ve walks or cycle routes sorted that start at the campsite.

Occasionally we’ve matched our holiday duration & location to overlap with the BIL. He has a car to take us further afield. 🤷‍♂️👀😎

Varies for us. Today we are in the New Forest. We towed a motorbike trailer so that yesterday we could go around the Isle of Wight without paying a fortune for the ticket (I know there's discounts, is still a lot cheaper by bike). Unfortunately as a PVC we can't get a motorbike inside, though we could just about mange a light scooter on a rack.

Often we'll bring bicycles on a rack - that's very useful when you can drive to somewhere close to where you want to be, then cycle in to the centre.

But then sometimes we'll leave both at home, and either drive to where we are going (maybe park and ride for congested small cities) or just take public transport. It all depends on the location.

I didn't know that I will have to try it going to London tomorrow I'll give it a try.
I normally find Google maps confusing when walking so I use maps.me.

I know what you mean but when I discovered this it’s a game changer.👍

Hi what motorbike trailer have you got ?

if you hold your phone up so that it can see, via its camera, what is in front of you it will flash big blue arrows up telling you which way to walk/turn.

Ian
Sounds like a good way of getting your phone pinched. Especially Lenny on his London trip!

5t , it’s on a Merc chassis with twin rear wheels. Been to a weighbridge and it’s all good.

Hi Les the problem is they are more nickable with the batteries left on the bikes.
Yes I agree, we carry a couple of heavy motorcycle locks.

Have you seen how many people still use their phones without ear buds, who use their phone on speaker phone, who take photos/videos, who already use them for directions?

Methinks you have a very conservative outlook on risk.

They'll nick your e-bike (with or without the battery) then they'll use that to cycle past you and pinch your phone right out of your outstretched hand!

It's an MSW RoRo - http://www.mswmotorcycletrailers.com/

There's plenty of others around, I like this because the trailer's loading channel drops down to ground level; you don't have to get a heavy bike up in the air. Once it's in place and strapped down you can then lift it with a big lever.

There are also collapsible ones that are easier to store.

Good morning to you all. We are new to all this so trying to find our feet so hopfully learn from your replies ;). The obvious method would be electric bikes none of us are getting any yonger so any extra help is always welcome. The big minus with electric bikes is you end up carrying the batteries for the day when you park up on them, they are not light items !! We have seen people towing small cars that gives you a great opportunity to venture away from site and take more in. Motorbikes/scooters also which is a route we are concidering at the moment but need to know my facts first. Or have i got it wrong you dont need any of the above ? I just want the freedom to be able to head off somewhere off site, especially as we want to start going over to Europe this year. Really want to hear your experiences and see how you manage when away ? TIA
Why would you carry the battery around with you, they are locked into the bike and you only take the key. I have an electric bike and john has a Normal road bike, but since we changed the van usually just take the KTM on an easilifter. We walk and use public transport. But my preference is the KTM, light and easy to get on for a short-**** like me,
Thanks bigtree

E-bikes (stored out of sight in the MH garage) & walking. We lock the bikes when left unattended but have never bothered removing the batteries.

For some strange reason, most of our bike rides end at a pub so it’s never a problem 😂

Well I bought the Eskuta which has an internal battery and comes with a full alarm which locks up if anyone tampers with the bike. It does 15mph and has a range of 50 miles. Works well for me.

2 seater Segway

We have a 6.4 m pvc and usually drive to attraction and park. We do use public transport, especially park and ride. We are not able to walk too far so have folding mobility scooters. Do siteseeing on the journey “there”. All in the UK. This is the biggest downside to motorhomes. We do miss the ability to simply wander down narrow lanes etc with the car as we did when caravanning. If we were much younger I think we would have invested in e bikes although the thought of road cycling does leave me cold.
