How do LV do it

Used 08000855663 last week and got through quickly
Same recorded message saying office temporarily closed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Have given up totally with LV.

I have just had a quote this week from them for my MH and it was the cheapest by far at £186 especially given they have previously stated that they don’t insure motorhome anymore. Quick to answer the phone and very helpful I found. I asked same questions about mods, value etc but they said they just class it as a motor caravan and as it’s got an alarm, reverse camera and dash cam that’s all they needed and immediately emailed me a quote. I already have my cars with LV so will add the MH in Sept when policy is due to to renew with Adrian Flux as it’s around £400 cheaper with LV.
Great result - did they say any of the reversing sensor, alarm or dash cam made any difference, as I asked and was told that they wouldn't? (I won't have reversing sensors or dash cam to start with)

It is indeed. They asked about a dash cam which I have and reverse sensors which I don’t have. I just said there is a reverse camera and a dash cam but no parking sensors and he just said ok. No questions about weight, vehicle size or extras at all. Seemed happy that it was to be classed (for LV) as a Motor Caravan and weren’t interested in the base build or coach builder info, although I did say it was an Elddis Marquis 125 on a boxer chassis cab. Worth noting that my quote was classed as a multi car quote as I already have my car with then.

What concerns me about LV is their lack of wanting full details of the vehicle, extras, value etc. If it's nicked and not recovered or you have a total right off and the vehicle is burnt to a crisp how do you prove what your vehicle was kitted out with and its value if it wasn't previously declared?

I tried online to get a quote, system says it cannot find my "Car" details.

No other options other than to try manually but its not listed.

Online Chat is not available so,

I have rang this minute. Selected new quote, it says lines are closed.

Wouldn't want to be making a claim !

That’s a very valid point I think. I guess regular photos of your MH to keep in your files would be helpful in the event of a claim. Or pay more with a firm that asks the right questions I suppose.

I am with LV and they are good, but, you have to careful with your valuation, especially if your van is PVC. They asked me for my valuation and asked for no evidence of how I got to it. I queried this and asked what would happen in a claim and it would be down to the loss adjuster. I suggested that I may need proof of of my valuation so I have taken photos of all the internal kit and copies of purchase invoices because I suspect the L/A would not know the difference between a £10 PWM and Victron MPPT, she agreed 🥴
The danger is that if you undervalue you van, in the event of a claim then if the valuation by L/A is down by 15% they will at the least reduce claim payment by the same or pay out claim and take off the premium difference since start of cover.

They must have monthly variable on costs as I have checked my policy and although it’s a Sevel van with a bog standard screen my glass excess is £190!

well I dont know how you guys have got qoutes like this, just done an online with LV, Im 52 in 10 days or so, 6 years no claims sadly 3points SP30:cry:.

they came back with this  bargain

I just my quote through for renewal, 3 vehicles and one of them being the motorhome, all in for £597 but I may ring to trim it as I seem to be paying protected NCB on 2 of them and my belief is it’s a waste of money as most companies just load your premium to bring you back to square one

Sorry ! Been walking to get car ( cambelt 😱😱😱😱) £800 do savings all gone 🥲🥲 was Esure and full £ was 247.30 .( I don’t do sums😂) neither policy had legal expenses but v impressed with the quote from them . Spent an hour today making sure that the LV £ is not still live -as belt braces gal !!

Protecting NCB doesn't stop the premium being raised however what it does do is ensure if for example you have 9 years you keep 9 years if you make a 'fault' claim, but if you haven't protected it then in addition to a premium rise you'll get hit with an increase for having less years of NCB as you'll lose a few years I can't remember how many years but it will make a difference to the overall cost.

Are we any further forward with LV and their weird process?
To get a quote, I had my van down as a Renault Motorhome, 4 door, no seats and feel decidedly uncomfortable buying this. Online chat not available so need to ring later this week.
Saving £100 would not look too clever in the event of a serious accident and a £35k under valued policy.
How have others gotten round the insuring 'the base van' and not the MH Marque?

Just jumping back onto this thread.

I am renewing my insurance, and as stated above, the online quote seems to miss a number of important points. The quote I have been given is £1k cheaper!! , which doesn't seem right, anyone had issues if needed to claim??

I have just today had someone drive into the side of my car from a cross roads and LV= have already got me sorted with a good repair company and hire car without any hassle on a no fault claim don’t yet know if it’s a write off or can be repaired so have a car until it’s either repaired or I get a replacement.
So in my book they have been excellent and efficient😊👍

Im having a nightmare with my claims with LV , they are trying to dump blame on me when Police and now Ombudsman have told them im the victim ..also regarding thier customer service its crap , They keep getting details wrong , different staff seem to have different info???? Im not impressed yes the van will get fixed once spares arrive but they keep changing their minds and also are ignoring Ombudsmans decision ..
My renewal in August will be interesting ,,,Ombudsman has warned me that what LV are doing will affect my car and motorcyle policy if LV do not comply with Ombudsman ,, I always thought That Ombudsman could make insurers and banks etc follow the rules and comply with Ombudsmans rulings but apparently they cannot

Sorry to hear that, I have been with LV myself before, with cars and had no issues, not sure about a high value motorhome. I plan to call them tomorrow to discuss the policy- hopefully to give me confidence to go with them.

I always do comparisons but over the past few years we've become exclusively LV as they've consistently been cheapest. Even so I usually find that I undercut their renewal quote on comparison sites by LV. Yes they undercut themselves on comparison sites. We also found last year that you get a further discount by doing multicover for all vehicles. Haven't had a claim though.
Answering my own answer because just got our renewals from LV and 80% up on last year. Haven't looked at others yet.

Further to my post #67:

Before I took out a policy with LV on my motorhome, I sent an email with questions relating to all the factors they don’t ask for with the online quote, such as make of motorhome, value, alarm, tracker etc, and all the information that at first seems incorrect on the online quote. This is the reply I received last July:

Thank you for getting in touch.
The information you were given is correct in that we don't record the specific model of the motor home, we take the chassis and we then record it as a motor home. Doors, transmission and gearbox are not something we take a note of on our motor home policies.
If there were to be a claim and the vehicle was written off we would only pay out the market value of the vehicle at that time.
With regards to windscreen claims our excess on the policy is what you would pay should you need to make a claim for that. If we require a tracker to be fitted it will be made clear to you on the quote at the time.
I hope we've been able to help you today and if you've any further queries, please don't hesitate to contact us.

I haven’t had to claim and hope I don’t have to, but I couldn’t find any good reason not to go with them, even after reading the early posts in this thread.

Thanks for the feedback, this is what I fear. Insurance companies are great at taking your money, but when it comes to paying out a different matter.

There are specialist insurers for that, can't think of the ones I used in the past. Oh Adrian Flux was one.

I called on several occasions before buying the policy and got the same answers from various staff at the call centre. Still didn’t believe it all, which is why I emailed and got a written response. It was the same as I’d been told by the call centre staff.

I don’t believe there’s an insurance company out there that won’t try to pay out as little as possible, regardless of what value you give them for a motorhome when the policy is taken out, and regardless of how much the premium was.

I also have my motorhome insured with them but not needed to claim, I would like to think they would be equally as good with that but hope I don’t need to find out😊👍

LV have authorised my repairs but they are a shower , their assesors are asking to look at my van yet again 3rd time as they say they have not seen it yet????? I told them they are welcome to come and see it , dont they have the details, reports and photos from their last 2 inspection ??? er NO!!!!!???? But Weston Motobodies the repairers have had full authorisation from LV and copies of the asessors reports to order parts and carry out repairs ,I trust them they are on the ball , but LV themselves are confusing .

I like others have just insured using LV did it initially on line and was a bit confused so rang up the call centre, 15 mins to get through and I asked the same questions as many others about what was covered why no alarm or tracker etc, was £40 cheaper doing it over the telephone, excess total £600. No breakdown legal or excess injury added as these are covered elsewhere, I think that is where the money side is, and was £250 cheaper than the next quote and £1700 cheaper than some, these were though brokerages so dealing direct seems to be the key. They want you to use their repair centres or there is another £200 excess and the windscreen excess is a bit dearer than others or the £20 for a chip but still seems okay
