HOW BUSY ARE THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS

Currently on North Uist surprised at the low number of motorhomes and camper vans we have seen. Dont know how many there normally are. Everyone seems happy where we have spent money, although there are not many place to spend money.

Scenery is fantastic though. (y) (y)

Ps haven't booked anything in advance.

Give Loch Doon Caravan park a call, it is stunning there. 07506 325030
It is listed on Visit Scotland.
Here is a faceache link....
Nearby is the Roundhouse cafe, again here is a faceache link.
I hope this is helpful and of interest.
It is within the Dark Skies area and is stunning.
We are so lucky that it is on our doorstep, so if I can help anymore please give me a shout.

From the report in the Stornaway Gazette, this MH has found a new way of avoiding being accused of wilding.....

Your welcome, I take the dogs to Loch Doon for walks, that's how close we live to it.

Yes, true, but we are not seeing anything like the numbers on the NC500. We go out a lot locally with our dog both in the car and day trips in the van and have noticed more vans parked up, but not a serious number and certainly not a problem to date. There were a handful at the start of lock down but they were escorted away by the police. The reversal of the Forestry and Land Scotland Stay the Night decision was a ray of sunshine and we shall certainly be taking advantage of it later this year. We are not travelling yet as we consider it not safe enough for us at present.
Yes very true, we live on the route and apart from maybe a small increase in MH's & caravans going past it seems fine.
I just hope people behave so that everyone is happy.

Interesting to read recent updates from people.

I've got friends who'd hired a mh to do the NC500 in early September. That's now cancelled due to the dodgy practice of the hirers and they are taking their caravan instead. Luckily they booked some sites a few weeks ago and will do a shortened trip.

Not sure I'd fancy it with a caravan, they will be on some single track roads😳
I wish them luck because that will be dangerous with a caravan, not a good idea at all.

Isle of Bute, quiet, north towards Inveray, quiet, in fact the whole area is quiet even at the weekend!
Still trying to work out this afternoon if this is a made up sign, looks like it! To close to the road to stay anyway.

Thanks for the heads up, just spent the last couple of nights here. Solitude, peace and quiet. Spectacular location, great walk down the Ness Glen. May be busier over the weekend but very quiet just now.

Glad you like it, according to Sparky (he is one of the ones who run it) it does get busier over the weekend, but it is a lovely spot.
If you see a mad woman on a mobility scooter and 2 Border Collies please avoid her, it'll be me. ;)

Glad your enjoying it up there mate, I was there earlier in the week & the weather was first class, but during the night a storm blew in. The quiet can be deafening & that suits me perfectly.

That was our pitch! Sitting overlooking the beach at Craignarget near Port William. A few other vans here.

Mrsambulancekidd, coming up to Dalbeattie for week starting the 7th is there anything happening worth visiting and photographing whilst we are about. We hope to spend some time at Mersehead for the birds and I am going to try and do some landscape work but I need to get my eye back in as I haven’t really picked my camera up for 6 months.
if you fancy a meet up give us a pm

According to this thread there's a bit of a hotty up for some photo modelling!:whistle2::imoutahere:

I think Gem was not keen on caravan life, as soon as she saw us preparing to go away on a Thursday she would start being sick and end up at the Vets hospital in Halifax for the weekend, £475 minimum each time, come Monday we would call and sure enough she picked up ready for collection.

I am not sure what you mean by a made-up sign but I think that you can safely assume that overnight camping/parking is not welcome in that location.

If you watch Cameron Macintosh,s utube channel you will see that these signs are in fact illegal, the LA,s that put them up should have applied for special permission and as a result of not doing so, many of the signs have been removed, so I would ignore it.

There are two quite separate things here. The legality of the signs and whether your overnight presence is welcome at a particular location.
Understood, I would be inclined to knock At nearest house and introduce myself just so the locals don’t think your a threat.
