How “Crit” is Crit’Air for France? Do I need it?

As per the question, if we don’t intend to drive anywhere near Paris (ferry to Roscoff then down to the South through the centre of the country) do I need to apply for a Crit’Air sticker? Any advice from experienced funsters much appreciated.
