Would you ‘trust’ anyone else to use your ‘van……..??!! o_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

As above.. Do a search... (y)

Been "debated" many times on here..
lots of views and opinions on the subject..

Yes, of course.

The weekly hire charges are £80,000, plus a security deposit of £100,000 deemed forfeit if there is even a hint of a scratch anywhere. And a charge of £60 a mile. And another deposit of £50,000, forfeit if the black box indicates that the vehicle has exceeded 65mph. And you get your own comprehensive insurance, to a standard approved by me.

Never , he’s my baby and only i know how to treat him well , the thought of someone crashing and banging around like they are in some Benidorm timeshare makes me break out in a cold sweat. NEVER .

And you fit new seat covers. And you don't sleep in the beds at all.

I once hired one. It was basic and only two years old. By the time I have finished my three weeks round Yerp, it was making some odd noises under the bonnet. I never raced or rallied, always took care, so I can only assume that previous hirers had caned the arse off it.

We view our motorhome as an integral part of our lives, even part of who we are. It is an extension of our house and life. Everything we look forward to, is bound up in the bus. We would never even consider lending it to immediate family, let alone hiring it out to strangers. However, clearly some do and make some money out of it.

There are lots to wade through.

Personally, there’s no way I would, but each to their own.

If you purely purchased vans for hiring out and treated it just as a business it could work, but my own personal van - never.
Would not work even then. What happens when the van comes back trashed (it will at some time) and you have two hours to fix it before the next hirer arrives.

I spent several years looking after a fleet of 10 hire motorhomes of various sizes and ages. First insurance will be very expensive. Body parts hard to obtain even on current models. Whilst there are many careful hirers there are a lot of not so careful or experienced ones. If you only have a couple of vans someone who has saved up all year for there holiday willl not be best pleased if the previous hire has a mishap rendering the van unserviceable. And to have a spare van standing around is not cost effective. That’s without getting into the state some are returned in.

I do remember a post I made in 2017, extract below…

Met a really nice couple on a site who had arrived in a rented motorhome. They had 3 very young kids and a dog and were totally new to motorhoming and wanted to give it a try.

I popped over to see them as we'd got chatting and they were asking my advice and you'd be horrified at how they were treating it. Mud, muck and 3 small kids meant that the interior was coming in for some harsh use and lots of spillages, mud from the dog, dirty kitchen area and cooker etc.

To make matters worse, the guy couldn't judge the width of the vehicle and had run the near side into a bus (that had stopped to pick up passengers). The bus had stopped with its steering wheel turned to the right, in preparation for pulling out, and the motorhome had scraped its way along the exposed tire. The front bumper was cracked, as was the mirror and mirror guard and the entire near side had black rubber scrapped along the side.

When he showed me the damage and asked my advice, I told him to contact the company and report the issue (I don't even know if he had stopped at the time, or had just driven on from the bus). I helped him t-cut the rubber marks from the side, but couldn't do anything about the scratches, the cracked bumper and damaged mirror.

You have to remember that no one will treat your beloved vehicle like yourselves. Most who rent, will be doing it either as a whim (and they've always wanted to try it) or are thinking of getting their own motorhome at some stage. Nearly all will be complete novices and not have the care or skill that you have, when it comes to looking after the vehicle.

The guy lost his deposit I believe, but he didn't seem that worried, but imagine if it had been your motorhome and returned in need of a full deep interior clean and repairs too.

Not only that, I'd hate the idea of a load of strangers sleeping in my bed and using my loo and shower. Wouldn't rent out my home, so the same applies to my motorhome.

No way on earth, mine was hired out, via a hire company and got took to France without my knowledge and it was used to bring three illegal's back into the UK.
Smashed inside, accessories thrown out to fit the bods in and I had to sort out the repairs and replacement items and fetch it from Dover where had been impounded.
This is the short version of the nightmare that was.
I put it right and sold it nit long after.
So it's a big huge NO, Never again from me.

Never hired it but let my aunt and uncle live in it when we were recently at the Millport rally. My heart was in my mouth all of the time , went in twice and the pump was running for gawd knows how many hrs with no water.
Not dirty but wasn't kept to mums usual standards of cleanliness. NEVER again will anyone else live in the van if mum or I aren't staying in it too.
