Help Urgent my vans tried to kill me

The problem is every time you drive and use them in future will your heart flutter for a second wondering if they are going to work correctly?

How about disconnecting the power supply and leaving it disconnected until you get the system checked
Tried that after the first heart stopping moment, so that’s why I think it possibly a mechanical issue it then did it again after I disconnect all power.

I wonder if once you have managed to get it into the fully retracted position opening the valves would make it impossible for the jacks to come down again until those valves are closed.

I’ll have a look, the pump, fuses and all the connectors are in the back connected to the leisure battery
I didn’t have mine connected to leisure batteries as it should all work from engine battery? I would have that checked out if I were you🤔👍

Rudski01 im a little concerned that you have the jack system connected to leisure’s are you certain as you said when disconnected it still worked? I’m pretty sure they should be on the van battery.😊

I’m pretty sure as my leisure battery is only working when plugged in on mains or through solar or when engine started, if I try and put the rams down the low voltage light comes on and my battery monitor drops into the yellow if not on any of these, that’s the reason why it may be, I will speak with RS on Monday to double check though.
My leisure battery is goosed, that was day 1 of this Hol 😩

Looks like a Concorde in your avatar is it?
I take it the hacks were already fitted when you purchased?

Not sure, the instructions do say to re close valves though.
I would imagine they would say that ready to deploy them next time. I would assume unless they are closed again they won't deploy - exactly what your after?

Hope you get to the bottom of it without to much expense good luck, sorry I couldn’t be of more help🤞😊

Thank you and everyone else, that’s why I love this forum, everyone has usually had a problem that they’ve experienced so can advise.
hopefully the thing stays up, I’ve got booked on Blackhorse site for the night so can chill before the long drive tomorrow 👍

Yes all fitted and what a pig of an area they’ve fitted it, I’m not a big fella but you need to be a contortionist to get in to the pump and leisure battery

That would be my concern ... I'm surprised there isn't a way to ensure this can NEVER happen as it could cause a serious accident if they deployed whilst on the motorway ... I shudder to think of the consequences!

There are at least two schools of thought on where to take the connection from, on our last van the jacks were fitted by SAP and Mick always prefers to come of the starter battery with it only operating when the engine is running.

Most of the German factory fit seem to come off the leisure battery, MORELO and Concorde certainly.

My thoughts exactly, I will speak with mick at SAP and have already e mailed RS with a question of how things are wired, if it’s due to the problem of low voltage due to the battery being dead then that’s a concern, either way I need it looked at. Trying to steer 7 tonne of Motorhome with a hydraulic leg coming down was bad once, but three times was bloody frightening and could have been much much worse

Sounds very odd. I think when the system retracts it will normally close all the valves (Both up and down circuits) about 5 secs after it detects they are fully up. That’s the noise you hear after it has stopped pumping. It does this to ensure the jacks can’t drop while travelling. It would take a leak on both the up and the down circuit to drop a jack then.

Hydraulics, are always a source of problems somewhere. The favourite is Dirt in the fluids. or moisture leading to corrosion. The clearances on control valves is critical, seals deteriorate over time. It`s a bit like dealing with the old fashioned mechanical Diesel Injectors, getting the set point right can be a nightmare. As you may tell, I am Old School on this. But It would not surprise me at all to hear the issue was contamination related. Older systems should be fluid changed IMV. Especially if not used frequently. Brake fluid is hygroscopic. It is probable that the Hydraulic fluid is too. unless Synthetic?.

Hydraulic fluid is generally mineral oil-based so shouldn't be hygroscopic. Water can till get in though and because it can't mix with the oil usually settles somewhere inconvenient to cause corrosion.

Pitched up on Canterbury site pontificating on today’s shenanigans and how lucky we have probably been, I think jezport might be correct as this issue has only happened since the leisure battery died, deployed the steadies tonight while engine running but wouldn’t automatically come down had to do it manual, let’s see if I get a reoccurrence tomorrow but will do a system re set if I can find the yellow plugs to pull out
