Has this ever happened to anyone whilst doin the nc500

Travelling from thurso to Kyle of tongue. Tailgate by an unmarked saloon for about 25miles. Stressing I pulled in a layby. They overtook me passenger put a camera out an took a picture?? As far as I'm aware not doin anything wrong
I was driving an articulated lorry from Oxford to Swindon in the early hours of the morning. The car behind me had their main beam on which was very annoying. I had to lean slightly into the nearside to avoid the light coming from my mirror. I thought they would overtake me on the approaching dual carriage way but no. On the roundabout with another dual carriage way coming up i slowed to a complete stop and the car stopped beside me instead of overtaking. It was at this point my suspicion was true and they had nothing better to do than play a childish game. I set off and they continued behind with the main beam on until I indicated to pull in to a lay-by. They went passed and i pulled back out and followed, by that time the dual carriage was tapering down to single carriage way.

One thing I've learned from driving is some other drivers like to do stupid things to see how you react.

I wouldn’t worry about this driver on the NC500 that was following you.

Thank you do much for not saying it was my fault. I was really spooked once I realised it wasn't the police. I thought they want me to stop. As a lone traveller I was very worried. Thank uou for your empathy. Much appreciated

It's funny how these NC500 posts pop up from time to time.

Reading the comments, most are from down south, and I'm not surprised to see the 'I won't go to Scotland' for what ever reason..

Well, as someone who goes on parts of the NC500 all the time, and lives on it, we've never seen any anti motorhome antics, but read about them from people who have never been or won't come for what ever reason, all I can say is good for you.

Do you think we'll miss you ?

BUT, if you do want to come, then do so, as you don't know what you are missing, white beaches, beautiful scenery, fresh (and I do mean FRESH) air. Cheap places to stop at, or lots of free areas near beaches if you know where to look. Plenty of places to get fresh water, empty grey and black waste now as more and more are appearing, lots of them just ask for a donation.

It's probably why the Dutch, Italians, French and Germans love it here in their motorhomes, and we get on average 6 million visitors every year up here in the Highlands, I wonder why ?
Hear hear!

Ask North Yorkshire police what their impressions of motorbikes and motorhomes are. Sure the one with two wheels will be far more negative. Often see signs with bikes and the number of casualties over a period. Yet to see one for a Motorhome!
Could that reflect the number of casualties involved rather than a bias?

Perhaps? They wanted to just toodle along enjoying the view and the MH in front was a fine excuse to travel slowly whereby had they overtook they would be pushed/ obliged to travel faster.

I love getting 'stuck' behind someone going slower than me on a beautiful road.
It's a great excuse to enjoy the drive. 😎

I have in the past just followed a rigid truck down country lanes in the car.

If you got someone coming the other way at say 50mph and can’t stop a truck is a good crash barrier 😉😊

If you bother to read the whole thread before your remark then you will note that the op gave the vehicle ample opportunity to pass but declined the chance.

It appears that following vehicle actions of refusal to pass when the opportunity was presented spooked a lone female driver.

That is the point of the op’s comments.

Don’t be goaded Sue … may be best to edit ….

In response to your original question it’s hard to know what they were doing. I can understand a sense of vulnerability/unease when travelling alone though. We regularly travel on single track roads and always pull in at the first passing place to let following vehicles pass.

I really am in despair on some of the people on this forum….😒
Sadly, it appears to be a fairly recent phenomenom across many forums..cycling, motorcycling, MoHos etc etc
Discussion turning into one upmanship arguments, people misquoting stuff, people citing nonsense with no factual basis etc etc.
I often type dozens of words in reply to something, only to click delete and move on (It is often difficult to type what you actually want to 'say', face to face would be no issue but the written word can be hard to master for some of us thickos...)

Sometimes people don’t read what’s written as well.

It’s obvious in their replies 😉🙄

I hear the words “ I don’t post much as some people get arsey” from Funsters all too often now…😏

I think people are often too quick to jump on the doom and gloom bandwagon. One or two posts, do not a forum make.

I’m not sure which forums you're referring to, but here at MotorhomeFun, it’s actually a rare occurrence. We've had over 1,800 posts today, and aside from the two that were reported and I’ve had to sanction in this thread, all the others have been fun/helpful and or informative.

Have you got a dashcam? If so can you make out the model and reg number? If so quick call to local fuzz if only to report it. Seems fishy to me.

Yes but that's a matter, which relates to competence of the potential overtaker and not any fault/issue with motorhomer.
Wasn't saying the motorhomer is at fault, just that to really 'get rid' of a following vehicle it's appropriate to consider the space and time they percieve to be available may be not the same as one's own perceptions of them so it's possibly a good idea to ignore them & get on with the journey or get completely out of their way by coming to a stop in the next suitable location. Then one's intentions are clear & the following driver doesn't need to be worried about the space & time available to overtake.

Sometimes they give some indication of appreciation after passing, sometimes they don't but everytime it resolves all uncertainty & helps reduce everyone's stress.

How many MHers have a dash cam on the back of their MH?

Both our rear cameras do Bob, I fitted a DVR in the camera video cables between the cameras and the monitor on the rearview mirror that records whenever the cameras or on.
Not a common fitment, but can be done.
