Has everyone checked out CCP lately

They just know how rich you are Chaser and showing you the expensive Aires.. BUSBY
As I and others have said many times over the years. This isn't actually about me as I have very few years left to be using these things it's not going to make one iota of difference to me.
And also as I said if we do go I will be making full use of the electric.
No the thing is these things are going to ruin the whole Aires thing as it used to be for people starting out now and they will never know the pleasure of just driving around and entering a new village and knowing you can always find a place to park up for free or very little.
You only have to look at how many of these things are opening this year to see the idea of free Aires is very soon going to be a thing of the past.
It will be a sad day.

Actually I wasn't criticiseing CCP in this thread ,more just pointing out that they are doing what we said from the beginning, by taking over the old site system and gradually getting dearer.
You pays your money and takes your choice.
But the figures don't add up. In another 30 years you may be right.
There are nearly 3,500 free Aires in France on s4s. Add the fp sites, add the wild sites, add the number they haven't got (they certainly don't have the 600 or so Aires in Brittany I know about)
Now give me the number of CCP sites and how many they increased by this year (30 or 40?) And I LL make judgement that there is still only the tiniest amount of concern of this affecting me.
The french will be bringing their manure outside the Marie before their Napoleonic right to park where they want overnight is taken away.

I have used them. It is harder to find a decent free Aire on the west coast but by no means impossible.

Whats up chaser has Gravelines put the prices up?:giggle:
Whats worse I guess is that pitch EHU's will probably be restricted or metered by the end of 2024, don't rip out your gas tanks just yet eh?;)

I hope so, I really don't understand why Motorhomes need EHU, caravans yes but not Motorhomes.
IMO a Motorhome that is not self sufficient is pretty useless.

Charlie, today people will never experience what we enjoyed the sheer volume and variation of people and what are termed as Motorhomes has seen to that, what we didn’t do and didn’t need to do was take advantage of the free facilities, ie: parking up for weeks when they can etc. Same with the Web 90% wouldn’t go to the EU with just a Map and bugger all else, the S4S concept wasn’t even imagined. I go with the flow now l still don’t book but it’s all in the mix as long as l can park in the location l want to be it’s OK pay or no pay.
Brian.

It will be like touring in U.K. then..BUSBY 😃😃😃

They are good for what they are. My problem with them is that in some cases the council are passing the responsibility of the municipals to CCP and then close the frequently better located town aire. Bit of a nuisance when they're a long way out like the new La Rochelle one ( although that one is not CCP).
Blaye one of our favourites has gone this way. :(

Is it CCP now?
When we stopped there a couple of years ago it was a brand new municiple Aire and only 5 or 6 Euro a night inc., servicing and EHU.

Happy to pay for the services, just don't need them behind a barrier or in some cases a fenced compound. I know some (a lot) of people like the perceived 'security' that CCP offer.
We all know why CCP have fences and card operated barrier, fresh water/ electricity points. It's because the FLTs will drive on or hook up to services without paying given half a chance. We've seen this many times. It's the same as driving off before the local Marie person comes round from the overnight fee. Cheapskates all. I mean for heaven's sake we're only talking 10 or so euros per night here not rip off UK prices.

Strange that, because in the years we've been motorhoming in France we've seen that happen, but very rarely. And on those occasions we've seen it it's almost always been the French themselves.

I agree, all the instances we've seen have been FFFF... French motorhomes.

One CCP aire we stayed on (only once as not a good one) at Argeles sur mer, the FLTs parked in the adjacent free car park and at least one had stuck his cable through the fence and plugged into ehu.

Mainly the French because they consider it their wright to free Aire, you would understand if you know how Aires came about.

Yep but still €1500 or more a year .

Same at Amneville by the leisure park.

Their website says they had 400 in 2022 starting from 0 in 2011.
If they average 40 a year my grandkids will have retired before they overtake free Aires.
Wow nowhere to park their Concords and Morrellos...-BUSBY 😄😄

Is that one at Honfleur a CCP.
I paid €14 for 2 and half hour visit recently. Didn't see the option for hourly charge.
Could have got a full proper site with EHU for a few coppers more.
On a site now with everything for €24 with lots and lots of SPACE. (and EHU for my heater:LOL:(y))

Unless you don't mind throwing money away it doesn't work if you want to stop for 24 hours.
Last time we stopped at Honfleur it was €12, arrived at 4pm left the next day at 3pm so cost us €12 if we had gone to the campsite it would have been €45 as they would have charged for two nights.
Honfleur is a municiple Aire run by the council, expensive because it has a good USP everyone wants to go there.

Who does that we don't we just stop where we want to be if they happen to be rubbish if that's where we want to be so be it.
And that was the point of an Aire de Stationment, it was a permitted stop off enroute. The French think differently about things like this, they re not as money centred as the brits - more republican. So your Frenchman whose town offers travellers a place to stop and access to water for free probably doesnt see why he should pay another town for the privilege.

However the world has moved on, half of Europe packs up their CC and either heads for or stops off in France, a country which is enjoying just as many money issues etc as the rest of us. IMHO we should be grateful that France remains the pleasant and accommodating country that it is because most of us would soon find another pursuit if we only had what the UK offered.

For clarity Lenny HB this is not aimed at you, just picking up on the point.

I really cant be bothered with the faff of booking into campsites.

I want to drive in, find a space, turn the engine off and reach for a beer.

I am OK to wave the card at the barrier on the way in but not much more.

But each to their own

We recently tried to use the CCP at Lorca - there was plenty of space but the machine said it was full. So we tried to get in to use the services using our CCP card & couldn't do that either - the machine said the card couldn't be used 🤷, we telephoned the helpline but still weren't able to get in to use the services. It's a few years we think since we used the card, but didn't realise that they expired 🤷☹️

Well we said it would happen but didn't expect it this quick, and they have already started to edge the price up.
But for anyone who is thinking of doing a first trip to France there is no need to do a lot of planning.
Just have a look at this.
Even 2 in Spain and one in Portugal now.
Plus their first one in Germany, at Buhl north east of Strasburg.
