Well we said it would happen but didn't expect it this quick, and they have already started to edge the price up.
But for anyone who is thinking of doing a first trip to France there is no need to do a lot of planning.
Just have a look at this.
Even 2 in Spain and one in Portugal now.

chaser they don't set the price the land owners do. We stopped on one in Spain €1 a night so not complaining, did another in France near ski resort but that was €15 but not much else in area and we wanted to stop.

Yes, they are all over the place and we have yet to use a poor one. Being relative motorhome novices, we prefer to book a spot ahead and a couple did fill up completely when we were there last autumn.

Yep, as you said right from the start, CCP are taking over the entire Aire system in France. For those of us that enjoyed the unpredictability and informality of the 'traditional' French Aires they are unnecessary. I don't want, or need WiFi, fences, entry barriers, ability to book, or EHU.

Some of our favourite Aires have been taken over by CCP and are just cheap, pared down campsites which are being brought up to a 'corporate standard'.

For those that like a cheap campsite, great, but for those of us who really enjoyed the pot luck, sometimes nothing more than a car park, and sometimes a place in beautiful surroundings, CCP is a disaster.

You were lucky only stayed at few most were rubbish been on much nicer free Aires.
We never book anything defeats the object of Aires in my view.
We have been traveling to Europe every year since 1979 in tents, trailer tents, caravans and Motorhomes since 2008, never booked anywhere.

That's the point. You have the experience, we don't.

At the moment we only do long-weekends from home in mid-west France, I have a good look beforehand at where we plan to stop ( street view, reviews or whatever ). This strikes me as more sensible than just pitching up, taking pot luck and then having to report the stop as "rubbish".

Weve been travelling in France and Spain renting Gites, Canal Boats since the late Seventies, at that time there was an endless choice of quality Restuatants and eateries, sadly over time , due to the high French employment taxes many of these have disappeared. Many villages now dont even have a Bakery , the Stalwart of French Instutions. Today we do have a good choice of stopovers throughout the counrty, even if perish the thought, we do have to PAY!! , but nowhere the rip off Britain prices and lack of choice we have here. I would say the standard of French Loos, have generally improved, but I have seen some disgusting facilities on some of the independent local Aires, not enhanced by the sanitary habits of our Continental Cousins . We have had good and bad expieriences on free Aires in Spain , and on one in Zaragoza we felt decidely unsafe, and would have moved on had we not arrived so late. I am trying to find the enthusiam to get away for a few days right now, but the thought of the diabolical Traffic in the South East is not helping.

They are good for what they are. My problem with them is that in some cases the council are passing the responsibility of the municipals to CCP and then close the frequently better located town aire. Bit of a nuisance when they're a long way out like the new La Rochelle one ( although that one is not CCP).

Just wish they would have the option of non EHU hate paying for things we don't use.
I agree , but we don't know if we shall be going again but if we do we shall use these things to the limit if they are where we want to be. I am setting everything up to work off electric, hob, water heating, kettle, even an oil filled heater.
If we are paying for it I am going to make sure we use it. (y) ;)

Everyone is different. We love the freedom of just turning up. Most of the best stops have been at were places we knew nothing about and just stumbled upon or pulled off the main road because it getting late. Of course, we go back to these best stops if we are in that area but still never book anything.

Sorry about the shouty bold font!!
I think that due to the economic situation throughout France many villages were struggling to maintain their aires and without CCP would have closed due to lack of funds..I cannot believe in the past that many Aires and camperstops in both France and Spain were free...Nice when it is but who can begrudge 10 euros to park and use the services provided..BUSBY.

Cost isn't the issue - it's the corporacy of CCP. Much prefer individuality. Happy to pay for the services, just don't need them behind a barrier or in some cases a fenced compound. I know some (a lot) of people like the perceived 'security' that CCP offer. I don't. Much rather pay the local Marie 10 euros directly and have the old type of Aire. I guess change happens - it's just not always for the better imo.

I think you will find ccp are getting closer to 20 euros now.

For all those that don't like CCP here are some free ones, there are more but this is just one area. CCP are mostly old municipal sites that that they've taken over and are in the process of freshening up.

We are on a CCP site in Incheville near Dieppe €14. Does what we want it to do before the ferry - get rid of all waste, pick up a little water in a clean environment. However, our motorhome is an adventure. If we stop somewhere bad we can move on or it's just one night from our lives. Stopped at a P4N in Fontainebleau - never again as road noise was constant throughout the night, but close to the Palace entrance.

Actually I wasn't criticiseing CCP in this thread ,more just pointing out that they are doing what we said from the beginning, by taking over the old site system and gradually getting dearer.
You pays your money and takes your choice.

But the landowners set the price?

Who does that we don't we just stop where we want to be if they happen to be rubbish if that's where we want to be so be it.
But I don't get why people rave over CCP Aires, maybe one day we will find a good one.
