Handover check list - Things to check

Sorry but who buys a farm because they love animals ?
You got your concepts confused there matey.
Hey, that’s how Yorkshire wildlife park started!! It was just Brockholes riding school to start with!! 596 you might want to visit YWP for the day, it’s only a mile out of Donny in the old cantley/Bessacarr area?

I don’t want to sound like a spoilt brat but sometimes too much of a good thing spoils it, I came up north to try a bit of rough but instead found wonderful friendly people and civilisation that makes London look like a ghetto, I may have a look around and see if I can buy a small farm up here, my wife loves animals ?
I was born in Sunderland after 38 years left, but what a fabulous education of life skills.
The north east has some beautiful sites to see and in general a very interesting place.
When you live there you do get complacent as it’s all there every day.
Enjoy your first trip in your new van ?

Looks lovely, very similar to the model we looked at when at the Peterborough motorhome show. I was disappointed in the quality of finish with the display models having loose/wonky badly fitted doors, screws and sawdust on the floors where they had fallen out.

Sounds like you have a good one, presumably because you pushed for exactly that.

Welcome to Bessacarr ownership

Looks good, may I ask what system you have and where was it fitted? I have Alugas fitted by Autogas at Thirsk and I would love to see my gas levels like that?? very cool!

As a few may know I (hopefully) have the handover of my new van tomorrow, can anyone chip in with any things I should ensure I check, and if necessary ways to check. Also I have never driven the van is this something that should be done at handover?

All experiences appreciated, could be things you missed or wished you had asked when you got yours ?

Thanks,
Most important thing is to check the speedo is connected. Normally disconnected because the van will have been run ragged being driven by people who just don't when delivered to the dealers, and when road tested.

Driving home from the NEC on Sunday, cruise control on at a steady 65 MPH and new vans on trade plates overtaking us at a rate of knots, must have been over 80 MPH, dozens of them!

Also I would check the engine oil, so many times they are delivered with "just enough" oil in them to save money.

Would be careful about leaving London lots of people move to East Anglia , then find it's such a change of life, they wish they had kept where they were, also running a Small holding with animals, means you have a 24/7 365 day job and no need for a leisure vehicle perhaps !!

This is my beach set up in summer, set up each morning, 6 bloody weeks staring at the sea and almost naked women constantly walking past, disgusting! ?
I know how you feel, I can manage about 10 minutes before I find an excuse and I'm off.

You could try the mountains just inland of the coast. With a car it's easy. We take a couple of scooters, so we limit ourselves to a 50-mile radius of the site. Near there, for example, are the 'Calanques' - cliffs and crags between La Ciotat and Marseilles. The Col de Sugiton leading to the Belvedere de Sugiton. Never got there this time because one of the scooters broke down halfway there, on the last day of the holiday, can't decide if that was good or bad luck.

? you know what, the smell of fresh vegetables and taking the dog out this morning in my wellies was so invigorating, 1,000% better than a hot desert, I can’t stand the heat and filthy sand ?

Then you go at the wrong time of year, it’s a pleasant 18c at the moment with a gentle breeze. Just been and bought some croissant apricots, yummy. :gum:

Yes, unfortunately I have to go at the same date, same time to the same friggin pitch to see the same bloody people every ffing year!!! I would love to be free and do what I want I retired, but married my wife who I support in seeing her parents who are very old, they are set in their ways so all that will change things is death, I just hope they don’t die soon after I bought this bloody van ?

The main thing to hope for is you don't beat them to it , none of us know whats round the corner !!

The worst handover we had was Brownhills, although for years we knew what they were like, so well prepared but they caught me out.............. remember this was not our first motorhome and we had a caravan in the early 80's, everytime I asked a question, the chap that I can only imagine was someone that washed motorhomes and swept the yard ? cut me short even to the extent of getting upset with me attaching my gas bottle to check everything worked, saying it's been checked yet he knew nothing about the motorhomes, and we did not want a long journey home to find things not working, also things had been nicked off the motorhome, that they denied even though we were showing photographs of it when we viewed it, ? that's when the fight started. ? Bob.
Think yourself lucky you were not collecting it from "" Wanderhome (South Cave ) Ltd "" when you arrive a humourless moron who takes delight in picking holes in your trade in to knock down the trade in price, even telling you if has had more than one previous owner, which ours had not. He tried this with some friends of ours who were trading in a van they had bought new.
The hand over was done on our new Swift, but we found out later when we took it back for its first of many warranty claims that we were missing spares, handles books and plug set. We only found this out talking to our friends who bought the same van and showed us all the bits they got with it, that we did not have. We had to call Wanderhome out anyway as the shower waste was not connected underneath and there was water everywhere after our morning shower, so not a good PDI.
The point of this moan is you do not know what will happen on a handover on your fist new van and it is a very valid question.

Well I’ve only got one more handover to come in a few years with my “FINAL” winterised continental van. My first and present “BRIT” van was handed over very thorough by John, the old guy who hands over at Lowdhams. I could be very lucky but so far I’ve been extremely pleased with the service and attitude of Lowdhams, I know others could have had a different experience but I guess it’s the luck of the draw and possibly that it was a two year old van With any issues already dealt with?

Shouldn't think your wife would be satified if you only had a small holding.

It is Lowdhams, what’s the secret? Best company ever to deal with, have had nothing but totally professional service, the salesman is absolutely superb ?

I just can’t understand what all this guessing stuff is, just ask, have people not got better things to do or useful things to post ?
I dont get it or you why buy something that good to sit on your drive for 6 months
should have taken delivery and paid final payment end of June

That’s what I wanted but not possible, the new VED which we wanted to avoid would have been on 2020 Euro 6E vehicles, there are still some Euro 6B’s about that don’t apply and we bought one, we paid the deposit and they stated when it was delivered to them they could delay purchase for a few months, but after that it would need to be paid for but they would store it free until next July, we thought that would be great but I posted the option on the forum and was told it could be dangerous if they went bust and had all of our money, also not good to be lying in a yard in the countryside when it could be plugged in on our drive with heating and dehumidifier, so had time this week to collect after visiting the NEV and here we are. I sold my old one about 3 weeks ago and it has been luxury with all that extra space on our driveway, anyway better at ours than lying in storage ?

Love this area of France, once hired a car and drove from Carcassone to la Ciotat camping along the way.
Can recommend a visit to gorge du Verdon/route des Cretes/Sisteron and the pont du gard is simply stunning.

Graydo
p.s .
Gorge du Verdon is probably best done in a hire car as it can be a bit tight in places :>)
